6.5-magnitue earthquake recorded in Colombia
The SGC's database for tracking such incidents recorded the earthquake around 8:08 a.m. local time near the city of Paratebueno and described it as having a shallow depth.
The agency said that it had received some 5,000 reports of people who felt the earthquake. Data shows that at least two aftershocks have had magnitudes greater than 4.
Carlos Carrillo, the director of Colombia's national disaster risk agency, said during a news conference Sunday that damage was recorded to a national highway in the area.
"In the inspection area of Santa Cecilia and the village of La Europa, as well as in Medina, the main church has been affected, including collapsed walls," he said.
"So far, two people have been reported injured in that municipality. Damage has occurred to walls and facades of churches and homes, and there may also be damage to bridges."
He later clarified that four people total have so far been reported injured, two in Paratebueno and two in Medina. They are all said to have minor injuries.
Carrillo said authorities were seeking to verify the impacts of the earthquake on a health center in the town of Fómeque and on a Catholic church in the town of Une in the Andes. Damage to homes were also reported in the towns of Tocaima and Caldas.
The U.S. Geological Survey also recorded the earthquake, describing it as a 6.3-magnitude tremor.

The 3.0-magnitude earthquake hit the New Jersey town of Hasbrouck Heights, about nine miles from Manhattan, around 10:18 p.m. local time, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. It had a depth of 10 kilometers and people reported feeling it as far as Philadelphia and New Haven, Connecticut. The New York City Office of Emergency Management said after the tremors were felt that it was monitoring for potential impacts. It later said that there were no reports of damage. The USGS explained that the earthquake happened as a result of faulting at shallow depths in the crust, and such earthquakes are infrequent but can be felt on the East Coast. "Although this event did not occur near a plate boundary, such 'intraplate' earthquakes can and do occur," the USGS said. The earthquake prompted jokes on social media from accounts that include one for the Empire State Building, which quipped, "I AM FINE."

3.0 magnitude earthquake jolts New Jersey, NYC
An earthquake rocked New Jersey late Saturday night — luckily, though, fairly softly. It was reported to be a magnitude 3 quake, generally considered to be a minor, 'low energy event' that would not be extremely noticeable or cause extensive damage. The U.S. Geological Survey, posting on X shortly after 11 p.m., nevertheless, deemed it a 'notable quake.' The epicenter was at or slightly northeast of Hasbrouck Heights, just east of Passaic, in Bergen County, a bit under 13 miles from Midtown Manhattan, according to USGS and NYC Emergency Management. NYCEM said there were no reports of damages or injuries, yet warned Big Apple residents to be on alert for 'possible aftershocks' — that could occur for as long as even the next several days. 'Tremors may have been felt in parts of New York City,' the agency tweeted. 'NYC Emergency Management is monitoring for impacts and coordinating with agency partners.' 'Be prepared for possible aftershocks. These may follow minutes, hours or even days after the initial quake. 'No immediate protective action is needed unless you experience damage. 'If you feel shaking, check for hazards such as shifted items, falling debris or cracks.' While the earth-shifting event jolted some parts of the metro area, it wasn't felt at all in others. One woman, who lives 20 miles north of Midtown, replied to the NYCEM tweet, 'I am in Mamaroneck, NY, and felt the rumbling and heard the LOUD sound it made! Ran outside to my back deck!!' 'Felt it in the Bronx,' tweeted a woman from the Boogie Down on the USGS quake post. But a Kings County resident shrugged, 'I didn't feel anything in Brooklyn.' Just five days ago, an 8.8-magnitude earthquake, one of the strongest ever recorded, erupted off the coast of Russia, triggering fears that devastating tsunamis could slam Alaska, Hawaii and the U.S. West Coast. As of Thursday, though, the tsunami fears had started to fade.
