NAVYA launched in UP's Sonbhadra to empower girls with vocational training

The step aims to equip adolescent girls with not only vocational training and education but also give them a platform for self-respect, opportunities and social participation.
Union minister of state for skill development and entrepreneurship (independent charge), Jayant Chaudhary, and Union minister of state for women and child development Savitri Thakur jointly launched the initiative.
NAVYA is a joint initiative of the ministry of skill development and entrepreneurship and the ministry of women and child development. It will be implemented in 27 aspirational districts across 19 states, ensuring equal opportunities reach even the most marginalised regions, preparing girls for future challenges.
'NAVYA has been launched to provide adolescent girls with training across multiple domains to make them self-reliant. Girls identified by the ministry of women and child development will receive short-term vocational training under the PMKVY scheme,' Chaudhary said on the occasion.
'The training will not be limited to employment alone, but will also enable them to establish small businesses and their own enterprises. The initiative starts today from Sonbhadra, a district rich in tribal heritage and natural resources,' he added.
'It will be a milestone in making adolescent girls self-reliant. Our shared commitment is to equip girls with skills that enable them to become independent and empowered citizens. This initiative will help them live a life of dignity and confidence,' MoS Thakur said.
To ensure its effective implementation, district skill committees are being strengthened to connect girls with local skill development schemes, job fairs and entrepreneurship opportunities.
Robertsganj MP Chhotelal Singh Kharwar and MLA Bhupesh Chaubey also addressed the gathering. Participants trained under the PMKVY and PM Vishwakarma schemes were awarded certificates at the event.

A year after enforcement of new criminal laws began, T.N. government works on more State amendments
As the three new criminal laws replacing colonial-era laws complete one year of enforcement in Tamil Nadu, the State government, which has sent its first list of proposed State amendments, is working on more of them. In its first list of State amendments proposed to the Government of India, it has sought changes in the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The State government sent the amendments in January this year. A top official from the Union Home Ministry visited Chennai a few days ago and one of the items on the agenda that was discussed at a meeting was about the amendments proposed by the Tamil Nadu government. One-man committee Meanwhile, the State government is also awaiting a report from retired Madras High Court judge M. Sathyanarayanan, who has been leading the one-man committee, which was constituted to examine the three new criminal laws and suggest State amendments to them. Another list will be sent on receipt of report from the committee, according to a source. In July last year, the Tamil Nadu government announced that it has constituted the one-man committee in this regard, on the directions of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin. The State government had then stated that Mr. Stalin, in his communication to the Union Home Minister, dated June 17, 2024, had highlighted key issues in the the three criminal laws — the BNS, the BNSS, and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam. The Chief Minister had contended that the Union government's laws had some errors in some basic sections and that they had been enacted without concurrence from State governments. As these subjects were part of the Concurrent List III, elaborate consultations should have been held with the State government, Mr. Stalin contended.

BJP gets new state presidents; ideological association with RSS & caste factor at play
New Delhi: The BJP is close to finalising the presidents of 12 states/Union territories and a common thread emanating from the selection process, besides the caste factor, is that most of the candidates shortlisted seem to have a long-standing association with the RSS. With the state party presidents in place, the stage is set for the much-awaited election of the party's national president. The BJP elected K Beichhua and VP Ramalingam as the party presidents for Mizoram and Puducherry. Barring these two candidates, all the rest of the shortlisted state presidents are ideologically associated with RSS and BJP right from the Jan Sangh days. In the next two-three days, BJP will elect its state unit chiefs for Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, West Bengal and other state/UT units. In Andhra Pradesh, OBC candidate PVN Madhav, an old party hand and whose family has been associated with RSS, will be made the state party chief. Similarly, in Telangana, Ramchander Rao, a brahmin, is set to be BJP state unit head. He is strongly associated with the RSS. With two Union ministers -- Bandi Sanjay (OBC) and G Kishen Reddy -- from the influential Reddy caste, the party has opted for Brahmin as its state unit head here. In Uttarakhand, Mahendra Bhatt is likely to continue as state unit president. In this hilly state where the politics is dominated by Thakurs and Brahmin and with a Thakur, Pushkar Singh Dhami as state chief minister, the party has opted for Brahmin as state president. Similarly, in neighbouring Himachal Pradesh, the incumbent Rajiv Bandal may continue as BJP state unit president. Here also, the politics is dominated by Thakurs and Brahmins. With Jairam Thakur as leader of opposition in the state assembly and JP Nadda, a Brahmin as Union Minister, the party has opted for a Baniya who has strong associations with the Sangh. Brazil keen on defence collaboration with India, interested in Akash Air defence system, Garuda artillery guns: MEA
New Delhi [India], June 30 (ANI): The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Monday highlighted that Brazil has expressed significant interest in India's defence capabilities, particularly in securing communication systems, offshore patrol vessels, the Akash Air Defence system and the Garuda Artillery Gun as part of defence collaboration between the two nations. During a special briefing by the MEA ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's five-nation visit to Ghana, Trinidad & Tobago, Argentina, Brazil and Namibia, starting July 2, The Ministry of External Affairs Secretary (East) P Kumaran detailed Brazil's keenness to explore joint research, technology sharing, and training exchanges with India. He noted that the South American nation has also proposed joint ventures and co-development in the manufacturing defence industries. 'There will be a discussion on defence cooperation with Brazil. They are looking at avenues for joint research, technology sharing, and training exchanges... Broadly, we have a few areas that seem to be of interest to the Brazilian side. They are interested in secure communication systems on the battlefield. They are also interested in offshore patrol vessels. They also have Scorpne submarines and are interested in maintaining those submarines,' the MEA Secretary said. 'They are also interested in the Akash Air Defence system, coastal surveillance systems, and Garuda artillery guns. They are also interested in manufacturing defence industries in a joint venture with us and joint R&D and co-development systems,' he added. The indigenously developed Akash surface-to-air missile air defence system has played a crucial role in thwarting Pakistani drone attacks targeting Indian assets during the period of heightened tensions between the two nations following the Pahalgam terror Attack and India's response through Operation Sindoor. The Indian Army during the intervening night of May 8 and May 9 has successfully repelled and responded to multiple drone attacks by Pakistan along the western border and the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir. The Akash air defence missile system is a medium-range, surface-to-air missile system that provides area air defence against multiple air threats to mobile, semi-mobile, and static vulnerable forces and areas. The system has cutting-edge features and cross-country mobility. In addition to defence, nuclear cooperation is also on the agenda, with both countries aiming to transition to greener energy sources. 'On nuclear cooperation, there is interest, as both countries want to move away towards greener sources of energy,' Kumaran noted. Prime Minister Modi will visit Brazil during the fourth leg of his five-nation tour from July 5 to July 8 to attend the 17th BRICS Summit 2025, followed by a state visit at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. The 17th BRICS Leaders' Summit will be held in Rio de Janeiro. During the summit, the Prime Minister will exchange views on key global issues, including reform of global governance, peace and security, strengthening multilateralism, responsible use of artificial intelligence, climate action, global health, and economic and financial matters. PM Modi will also hold bilateral discussions with President Lula in Brasilia on expanding the Strategic Partnership between the two countries in areas of mutual interest, including trade, defence, energy, space, technology, agriculture, health, and people-to-people linkages, as per a statement by the Prime Minister's Office. Meanwhile, MEA Secretary for Economic Relations Dammu Ravi provided insights into the leaders' declaration expected during the BRICS summit, expressing his confidence that there will be a leaders' declaration following the summit. 'The leaders' declaration has been in the making for quite some time. The negotiations have been taking place at the Sherpa and the Sous-Sherpa levels for almost six months now, and all the deliberations at the ministerial level and working group level have gotten into it. We're very confident that we'll be able to have a declaration, and that's India's constructive role, and all the members understand that it's important to have the leaders' declaration because that's also a success of not just the host but all the BRICS members also need to reflect that sentiment,' Ravi said. PM Modi will embark on a five-nation visit from July 2, during which he will attend the BRICS Summit in Brazil and hold meetings with leaders of Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina and Namibia to strengthen bilateral ties.
