The much-anticipated face-off between India's
Neeraj Chopra
and Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem is finally set to unfold once again — this time at the Silesia Diamond League in Poland on August 16.
It will be the first meeting between the two javelin giants since their showdown at the
Paris Olympics 2024
, where Neeraj finished on the podium and Nadeem made history for Pakistan.
Chopra, who recently breached the elusive 90-metre mark at the Doha Diamond League with a throw of 90.23m, has continued to impress on the global stage.

Speaking to ANI at an event, the Olympic and World Champion on Friday emphasised his steady, step-by-step approach to pushing his limits: "I believe in going step-by-step. I have touched 90 m now, so I would like to increase it by one or two metres.
Then aim for 95 m. As Sumit (Antil) said, 95 m is indeed possible. Then, after that, I would try breaking my coach's record."
That coach is Jan Zelezny, the world record holder (98.48m), and someone Chopra greatly admires.
"He has thrown 98m, and so many over 90. Maybe once I hit 95m, then I can start to say something — but right now, I need to keep working," he added.

As the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo (Sept 13–21) approaches, Chopra is focused on defending his crown. "I am preparing well for it and I hope to give my level best there. It is the biggest and most important competition of the year," he said.
His clash with Arshad Nadeem in Poland may not carry Olympic stakes, but for fans across both nations, it promises plenty of excitement and perhaps a preview of battles yet to come.

'He outplayed Patrick Mahomes': Cris Carter defends Jalen Hurts after Cam Newton snub

(Getty Images) Jalen Hurts recently delivered the Philadelphia Eagles a Super Bowl championship and an MVP performance, yet his spot among the NFL's elite quarterbacks is still being questioned. Former MVP Cam Newton recently left Hurts out of his top 10 QB rankings, but Hall of Famer Cris Carter isn't buying it. In fact, Carter argues Hurts has done enough to earn credit even saying he outplayed Patrick Mahomes in their head-to-head Super Bowl matchups. Cris Carter believes Jalen Hurts has proven himself despite strong roster help During a recent segment, Carter defended Hurts after Newton's comments sparked backlash across social media. Newton had suggested that Hurts doesn't need to play at an 'elite level' because of the stacked roster around him. Carter pushed back, saying Hurts shouldn't be downgraded simply because his team is talented: 'I look at the last two Super Bowls he was in against Patrick Mahomes. He outplayed Patrick Mahomes, and he should get credit for that.' Jalen Hurts Deserves More Credit #philadelphiaeagles #jalenhurts #nfl #patrickmahomes #sports Carter compared Hurts' situation to Joe Montana's era, pointing out that no one dismissed Montana's greatness just because the 49ers surrounded him with elite weapons. The debate over stats versus winning Newton's critique centered on Hurts' passing totals, specifically last season's 2,900 yards, which Newton claimed wasn't enough to place him in the league's top tier. Carter countered that a quarterback's primary job is to win, not chase numbers: 'If we're measuring QBs, the first question is—did he win? What Jalen Hurts is doing is not his fault. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like We Have No Words For Dog The Bounty Hunter's Transformation Cash Roadster Undo He's the captain of the ship, and Philadelphia is a tough place to be a quarterback.' Hurts has shown he can post big numbers when needed, back in 2022, he threw for over 3,700 yards, rushed for 750+, and scored 35 total touchdowns. But his style emphasizes team success over stat-padding. Jalen Hurts' dual-threat ability makes the Eagles more dangerous Carter also highlighted Hurts' impact beyond the box score. His mobility forces defenses to adjust, creating opportunities for teammates like Saquon Barkley to shine. When teams take away the run, Hurts has repeatedly stepped up as a passer in big moments especially in the postseason. Despite a Super Bowl victory, MVP honors, and back-to-back trips to the big game, Jalen Hurts is still fighting for respect in some circles. Critics see him as a product of his roster; supporters see him as a proven winner who thrives under pressure. As Carter put it, Hurts shouldn't be penalized for leading a loaded team, he should be credited for keeping it at the top. FAQs: 1. What did Cam Newton say about Jalen Hurts? Newton left Hurts out of his top 10 QB list, claiming Hurts benefits from an elite roster and doesn't play at an individually elite level. 2. Why is Hurts' recent season criticized? He threw for around 2,900 yards, which some analysts feel isn't enough to justify top-tier QB status, despite the Eagles' success. 3. Has Hurts shown elite numbers before? Yes. In 2022, he posted over 3,700 passing yards, 750 rushing yards, and 35 total touchdowns. Cycling-Vos surges to opening stage win in Tour de France Femmes

July 26 (Reuters) - Dutch rider Marianne Vos claimed a jaw-dropping 258th career victory when she prevailed in the first stage of the Tour de France Femmes, a 78.8-km hilly ride from Vannes to Plumelec on Saturday. HT Image The three-time road world champion, 38, prevailed at the top of the Cote de Cadoudal (1.7km at 6.2%) after her Visma-Lease a Bike teammate Pauline Ferrand Prevot cracked in the final metres to finish third behind Kim Le Court of Mauritius. While Ferrand Prevot could not convert, she showed impressive strength when she attacked 700 metres from the line, a move that underlined the mountain biking Olympic champion's title credentials. Vos, who will wear the yellow jersey in Sunday's second stage, surged past in the final 50 metres and raised her arm in celebration, just like Ferrand-Prevot. After a dozen riders were involved in a crash as the peloton rolled towards the start of the stage, Maud Rijnbeek and Laura Tomasi formed the day's breakaway. Rijnbeek went solo after 23 kilometres before Tomasi was swallowed by the peloton. Swiss rider Marlen Reusser was involved in another crash at the foot of the Cote de Cadoudal, a 1.7-km ascent at 6.2%. Reusser, who finished second in the Giro d'Italia and the Vuelta, later abandoned with stomach problems, her Movistar team said. Defending champion Kasia Niewiadoma-Phinney, who beat Demi Vollering by just four seconds last year, finished fourth in the same time as the winner. Vollering was fifth, three seconds behind.
