Liverpool handed clear run at Alexander Isak transfer as Arsenal and Chelsea stance emerges
Alexander Isak has opened the door to a sensational British-record transfer to Liverpool after informing Newcastle that he wants to explore a move away from St James' Park. Isak did not travel with the Magpies to Singapore yesterday for their pre-season tour, though the club insist his omission was due to a thigh issue.
However, it's understood the Swede asked to be left behind after also missing Saturday's 4-0 friendly defeat at Celtic. Liverpool retain an interest and will now consider a fresh approach after their initial enquiry was knocked back around 10 days ago.
The big-spending Reds, who have already splashed just shy of £300m on new arrivals after pipping Newcastle to Hugo Ekitike, will likely require sales to present a formal bid.
Luis Diaz is wanted by Bayern Munich and is keen to join the German giants while Darwin Nunez, Harvey Elliott, Federico Chiesa and Tyler Morton remain possible departures before next month's transfer deadline.
PIF-owned Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal are also courting Isak, who has rejected the chance to sign a new deal with Newcastle, and would be willing to offer the 25-year-old an eye-watering contract worth up to £500,000 per week including bonuses.
Earlier in the year, Arsenal initially had Isak top of their summer wish-list but the Gunners - much like other suitors - did not feel he was attainable after Newcastle secured Champions League qualification and they began to lay the groundwork on other targets, instead.
Mikel Arteta's side are now in the process of finalising a £63.7m deal for Sporting CP's Viktor Gyokeres, who is finally expected to undergo a medical in the coming days after agreeing a five-year contract at the Emirates.
Manchester United have also ruled out a swoop for Isak while Chelsea, who made an enquiry last summer, are currently prioritising the arrivals of RB Leipzig attacking midfielder Xavi Simons and Ajax defender Jorrel Hato after landing Liam Delap and Joao Pedro.
Sources at Stamford Bridge have poured cold water on the prospect of a swoop for the Sweden international despite appreciation for the player.
Newcastle remain determined to keep Isak, though his bombshell power play could now force their hand. The Magpies value the ex-Real Sociedad striker at around £150m.
Meanwhile, Eddie Howe's side remain in talks with Brentford over a swoop for £40m-rated Yoane Wissa. Eddie Howe's interest in Wissa is unrelated to Isak's future and Newcastle have already had an opening offer worth in the region of £25m rejected for the DR Congo international.
It's believed Newcastle are now already exploring other forward targets in anticipation that Isak could depart.

Now according to several reports in Italy, Kilmarnock defender Corrie Ndaba is due to fly out for a medical before completing a transfer to Lecce. The left-back, 25, has two years remaining on his deal at Rugby Park so the Ayrshire club will bank a nice fee for the player if the move follows through as expected. Ndaba joined Kilmarnock last year from Ipswich Town, having previously spent time on loan there. A Republic of Ireland youth international, Ndaba came through the Ipswich youth ranks but never played a competitive league match for the Tractor Boys. He instead had several loans spells, including one at Killie's local rivals, Ayr United. According to Sky Italy, Ndaba will sign a three-year deal with the option of extending for a further two. Ndaba made 38 appearances in all competitions for Killie last season as a key member of the squad under Derek McInnes. He became a fan favourite the year before during his initial loan stint. Ndaba scored once and provided one assist from left-back in the 2024-25 campaign. Marcus Rashford back with ex-fiancee Lucia Loi two years after split as childhood sweetheart joins him in Barcelona
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) MARCUS Rashford has rekindled his relationship with former fiancée Lucia Loi — and she was with him when he signed for FC Barcelona, The Sun can reveal. The Three Lions ace, 27, and childhood sweetheart Lucia, 26, were together during a photoshoot before he was unveiled as the Catalan giants' latest signing at the Camp Nou stadium. Rashford was later seen emerging from the kiosk in a post on FC Barcelona's social media, captioned: 'Hello? Barca? For sure, I'm coming.' The striker has signed a year-long deal with Barcelona, who have an option to buy him next summer for around £26million. Old Trafford boss Ruben Amorim has made it clear he will not play for United while he is in charge. Rashford has been given the No14 shirt previously worn by big names including Johan Cruyff, Thierry Henry and Ronald Koeman. The Sun understands that Rashford has asked calming influence Lucia, who works in PR, to help him settle in to life in Spain so he can focus on his football. But they were not seen together until they were unwittingly snapped preparing for his phone box stunt. A source said the pair have stayed close, despite their 2022 engagement fizzling out, and have grown close again of late. They added: 'Marcus knows that some of the best moments in his career have occurred when Lucia has been at his side. 'They got together when they were very young and have had ups and downs, but a friendship has always remained. Barcelona announce loan signing of Man Utd forward Marcus Rashford 'He knows that she is good for him and she is one of the few people in the world he knows has got his best interests at heart. She is very sensible and helps keep him grounded.' Rashford said of his move: 'I'm very excited. It's a club where dreams come true. 'It feels like I'm at home and it's a big factor in my choice to come here. It's a family club and people are comfortable here.' Rashford, who flew out yesterday with his new teammates for his new club's Far East pre-season tour, and Lucia have been friends for at least a decade. They met at Ashton on Mersey School in Manchester where both were pupils. He was sent there as a teenage United academy player. They were dating when he made his first team debut in February 2016 in a UEFA Europa League match against FC Midtjylland. 7 Lucia takes snap of her man during photoshoot at the Camp Nou Credit: x 7 Lucia lends Marcus a hand by checking his shirt 7 Rashford during Barca's phone box stunt Credit: Facebook. He scored twice in the 5-1 victory at Old Trafford. They split in 2021 after Covid put a strain on their relationship but reconciled the following year. In February 2022, they were seen at the world premiere of Amazon Prime documentary 'Rooney' at HOME cinema in Manchester. Three months later, he proposed to Lucia after a romantic meal at celebrity restaurant Catch LA in West Hollywood, California. He got down on one knee and handed her a £250,000 engagement ring, posting a picture on Instagram of them kissing. Behind them was a large heart made from white flowers. Beneath the picture was the date and a love heart emoji. Lucia, who graduated with first class honours in Advertising and Brand Management, was a regular in the stands at Old Trafford. But in June 2023, sources said Rashford and the former Manchester Metropolitan University student had split after he was seen with a model outside a hotel in Miami. 7 Sources said Rashford and Lucia had split in June 2023 Credit: Getty She was later identified as personal trainer Courtney Caldwell. In November 2023, Rashford and Lucia were seen having dinner at a restaurant in Manchester. He was briefly linked to model and former Love Island contestant Grace Jackson last year, but the relationship ended in December. Back in Spain, meanwhile, Rashford is expected to be on 15 per cent less than the £315,000-a-week he was paid at Man United. He spent the second half of last season at Aston Villa after Amorim made it plain he would not be part of his plans for United's future. Barcelona almost signed Rashford in January, a move the star said he wanted to go through. After the deal was finally signed on Wednesday, club president Joan Laporta said: 'We are very happy because a player of great quality is coming, at a great age. 'We have him as strong as a rock. He came in very motivated.'

Alexander Isak's dream Liverpool shirt number depends on £43m transfer after Arne Slot snub
Alexander Isak has donned the No 14 at Newcastle and is considering a move away but that number is occupied at Liverpool - unless the pieces fall into place for it to become vacant Alexander Isak is being heavily linked with a summer switch to Liverpool but the Newcastle star currently wouldn't be able to take the No 14 shirt given it is already occupied - at least for now. Federico Chiesa was the only signing Arne Slot made last summer, albeit the Italian has struggled to make an impact at Anfield and has been left out of their pre-season tour. He was a £10million signing from Juventus but could now make a return to Italy. Atalanta are keen on the Italian, which would free up the No 14 for Isak if he did make the move to Liverpool. However the Serie A side first need to sell Ademola Lookman to Inter Milan before they can complete a deal for Chiesa, according to reports. There has been speculation that the Reds flop could return to his native Italy for months and Atalanta are ready to save the 27-year-old from his torrid spell in England. The Bergamo outfit are ready to make a move for Chiesa according to Football Italia, but only once they have confirmed Lookman's exit. Inter want to add the Englishman, who scored 20 goals, as they rebuild their team in the aftermath of Simone Inzaghi's exit. Atalanta are demanding at least £43m before they let the winger seek pastures new. If that move does not materialise then Isak may have to eye up the No 9, which is currently held by Darwin Nunez. The Uruguayan has seen a potential route to an exit blocked after Napoli pulled out of a deal, but he is expected to bring an end to his three seasons on Merseyside - two of which have been in the No 9 shirt - in the coming weeks. The Newcastle ace has spent the last three years at St James' Park and just enjoyed his best season to date. He enjoyed a run of games where he scored in eight games on the bounce, one of which was against Liverpool. He has three years to run on his contract at Newcastle but has told the club he wants to explore a move away from the club, which has put the Reds on alert. Hugo Ekitike recently joined from Frankfurt but Slot is still weighing up whether to pursue the Swedish star. Newcastle are yet to lose one of their key figures since their Saudi owners came aboard, but their ambitions could now be hit if Isak does push for the exit door. Skipper Bruno Guimaraes admitted the player was going through "some rough things" but insisted he hoped the player would return for the club ahead of the new Premier League season.
