HDK announces proposal for tourism devpt of Srirangapatna
Speaking during the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting here on Friday, Kumaraswamy said the initiative aims to boost tourism in Srirangapatna taluk, alongside the preservation and development of its heritage sites.
On the agriculture front, he noted the favourable monsoon this year and instructed the agriculture and horticulture departments to provide timely and consistent guidance to farmers.
Deputy commissioner Kumara reported that awareness drives are being held in schools and colleges on the legal and social consequences of child marriage, including education on the Pocso Act. He also informed that AI-enabled cameras have been installed along the Bengaluru-Mysuru National Highway to monitor speeding and reduce accidents, with fines being imposed on violators.
Zilla panchayat CEO KR Nandini said special attention is being paid at festival and mass marriage venues to verify the age of the bride and groom, as a measure to prevent child marriages.

Congress MLAs absent from DISHA Meeting
Addressing the issue of Congress MLAs skipping the DISHA meeting, Kumaraswamy said, "I don't know whether they will attend or not—but I will still do my duty." He added that personal prestige and political rivalry were not his concerns. "I don't need an invitation from Congress MLAs. The people of Mandya have invited me, and I am here to work for their development," he told reporters.
In Mysuru, agriculture minister N Cheluvarayaswamy, who is Mandya district in-charge, responded to the conduct of the DISHA meeting by Kumaraswamy in Mandya. Cheluvarayaswamy stated that Kumaraswamy didn't attend meetings he chaired. He accused Kumaraswamy of failing to focus on the development of the Mandya Lok Sabha segment. Speaking to reporters, he said: As a Union minister, Kumaraswamy should get major projects and funds to the state and Mandya.
He allocated Rs 30 lakh for an auto stand from his MP Local Area Development Fund. This will not help the people, he said.
He remarked that everyone, including former MP Sumalatha Ambareesh, has done similar work, as funds are available to legislators and MPs. He suggested that Kumaraswamy, being a Union minister, should work with senior Union minister from Karnataka, Pralhad Joshi, to get funds due to the state from the Centre.

Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale on Saturday condemned the assault on an elderly North Indian restaurant owner for not speaking Marathi by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers in Thane. The incident, which occurred at Mira Road where three MNS workers confronted the shop owner over language, sparked massive public outrage and social media debate. 'The bullying that has started in Mumbai these days in the name of language must stop immediately. The respect for the Marathi language is a matter of pride for all of us, but harassing or intimidating someone because they don't know a particular language is a crime," said Athawale in an X post. The Union Minister said Mumbai, as the economic capital of the country, is home to people from diverse linguistic backgrounds, including poor traders and hardworking labourers. 'The injustice being done to them must stop at once. I appeal to the government to take strict action against such incidents. Living with unity, respect, and equality in society—that is the true identity of Mumbai," he added. Maharashtra Slapgate The video of the incident, which surfaced on social media, showed MNS workers engaging in a heated exchange with a shop owner, repeatedly questioning why he refuses to speak Marathi in Maharashtra. The vendor questioned, 'Why should we speak in Marathi?" One of the party workers immediately responded with a threat, saying, 'Maar khayaga?" The vendor insisted that he did not know Marathi, prompting the MNS workers to ask if he was aware of the state he was working in and the language spoken there. The vendor replied, 'All languages are spoken here," further fueling the tension. The verbal altercation quickly escalated into violence as MNS workers began slapping the vendor in front of his food stall, while bystanders looked on as the incident unfolded. After uproar over the incident, the police booked the accused and arrested them. However, they were granted bail moments after.
