Jyothi Yarraji Undergoes Knee Surgery To Repair ACL Tear, Ending Her Season
Jyothi Yarraji underwent knee surgery for an ACL tear, ending her season and excluding her from the World Championships in September.
Asian champion and national record holder in the 100m hurdles, Jyothi Yarraji, has successfully undergone knee surgery, which will not only exclude her from the World Championships in September but also end her season.
The 25-year-old Yarraji announced on social media that she had surgery on Friday to repair an ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) tear in her right knee. The procedure was conducted by renowned surgeon Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala.
'Hello everyone, I'm happy to share that this Friday, I successfully underwent a successful surgery to repair an ACL tear on my right knee with Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala. The past few weeks have been tough for me, as this injury has stopped me from doing what I love the most," Yarraji wrote on Instagram.
An ACL tear surgery typically requires at least six months for recovery. This means Yarraji will miss the Tokyo World Championships (September 13-21) and will likely return to action next year.
'However, with the support of my family, friends, the teams at TOPS, media.iccsai, afiindia official and rfyouthsports coachjameshillier and all of you, I am taking this in my stride and hoping to be back very soon. The journey to a stronger version of me starts now and I'm going to put in my 100% and more to be back on track soon," she added.
Who Is Jyothi Yarraji?
Yarraji, also an Asian Games silver medallist, had previously announced this month that she suffered a 'freak" knee injury while training. Her coach, James Hillier, told PTI that the injury was 'pretty bad."
Before her injury, she had a high chance of qualifying for the World Championships, although she had not achieved the direct qualification time of 12.73 seconds.
Her 12.96-second performance in winning gold at the Asian Championships in May placed her among the athletes who could qualify for the World Championships through the world ranking quota.
Athletes can qualify for the World Championships either by direct entry through breaching the qualification mark or through the world ranking quota. The qualification window remains open until August 24.
Yarraji returned this season after suffering a hip flexor injury while training in Finland after the 2024 Paris Olympics, which impacted her training stint.
At the start of the 2025 season, she adjusted her technique, switching from a seven-stride approach to her original eight-stride approach, believing it would reduce injury risk.
She won gold in the 100m hurdles and the 200m race at the Uttarakhand National Games in February, secured the top spot in the 100m hurdles at the Federation Cup, and defended her Asian Championships title.
Her last title was at the Taiwan Athletics Open on June 7.

Can Zeev Buium become the Minnesota Wild's breakout star this season?
Photo byWhen training camp opens in September, all eyes will be on Zeev Buium. The 19-year-old defenseman, drafted 12th overall by the Minnesota Wild in 2024, isn't looking for a slow introduction to the NHL. He's planning to step in and make an impact right away. 'I do think that there is an opportunity for me to step in and be a player on the team,' Buium said recently. 'And for me, I don't just want to be a guy who's out there—I want to help this team win.' From college dominance to NHL playoff debut: Zeev Buium's rise to stardom Zeev Buium signed his three-year entry-level contract on April 13, just three days after the University of Denver's Frozen Four elimination. One week later, on April 20, he made his NHL debut in Game 1 of Minnesota's first-round series against the Vegas Golden Knights, logging 13:27 of ice time in a 4-2 loss. He appeared in four playoff games and recorded one assist, giving him an early taste of the league's intensity. 'Being able to play in those couple games at the end of the year and then going to World Championships [with the United States] really helped me,' Buium said. 'You learn a lot… how guys carry themselves and what you need to do.' Before signing with Minnesota, Buium had a remarkable college season. He put up 48 points (13 goals, 35 assists) in 41 games for Denver, earning NCHC Player of the Year and Best Offensive Defenseman honors, while finishing as a Hobey Baker finalist. He was also a unanimous NCHC First-Team All-Star selection. The California native isn't short on championship experience either. He helped Denver win the 2024 NCAA title and was part of the U.S. teams that claimed gold at both the 2025 World Juniors and the IIHF World Championship—the latter breaking a 92-year drought for Team USA. 'There'll always be enough room [for more trophies],' Buium joked. 'The group of guys we had was so special… everyone's so great and cares about each other. ' Zeev Buium's offseason grind and Bill Guerin 's blueprint for a breakout rookie year Now, Buium is focused on adding strength and explosiveness to his 6-foot, 183-pound frame before camp. 'I think for me, it's putting on weight,' he said. 'Working on explosiveness, getting faster and stronger… get ready to play a full NHL season.' Wild GM Bill Guerin believes he's on the right track. 'Zeev is a young guy that we've all seen what he's capable of,' Guerin said. 'He's one of those young pieces of talent we're very excited to see make a push and have an impact on the team.' After a year packed with milestones and championships, Buium's hunger to succeed at the NHL level has only grown. 'Losing in the Frozen Four put into perspective how hard it is,' he said. 'It makes me more grateful… and realize how much more I want it.' Ex National Kabaddi Captain Falls Into Ganga In Haridwar, Rescued
New Delhi: A former award-winning captain of the national kabaddi team fell into the Ganga River in Uttarakhand's Haridwar this morning. The incident led to a flurry of rescuers immediately launching a motor boat to rescue him. Deepak Hooda, the former captain of the Indian kabaddi team, an Asian gold medallist, and an Arjuna awardee was swept away by the strong currents of the Ganga. The incident led to a scare among people in the crowded holy town during the Kanwar Yatra season. A video of the incident showed a fast boat of the disaster response team picking up Mr Hooda safely from the strong currents. Officials said the rescue operation was carried out successfully despite the strong currents and challenging conditions. Mr Hooda has brought victory for India in many international competitions. His wife, Sweety Boora, is an international boxer and has also been honoured with the Arjuna Award. Officials said that during the Kanwar Yatra, incidents of Kanwariyas being swept away in the Ganga River are common. Due to this, the Haridwar police deployed several rescue teams at different ghats. This year, the state disaster response force has rescued over 150 Kanwariyas from drowning in the Ganga. In the 2024 Kanwar Yatra, some 250 Kanwariyas were rescued by the SDRF.
