Odisha CM claims his govt turned promises into reality in one year

Bhubaneswar, June 11 (UNI) Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday claimed that his government has successfully turned the promises made to the people into reality within a year.
Inaugurating the State-level Vikas Mela 2025 in Bhubaneswar to mark one year of the state government, Majhi said that the past year has been full of challenges. 'During this time, we have achieved remarkable success in various fields and have fulfilled the promises made to the people,' he said.
'Our promises are not mere words; they are commitments carved in stone. We have made promises and we have kept them,' he remarked.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said that a year ago, the people of the state changed the administration with new hopes and aspirations, entrusting the government with the responsibility to deliver. 'We are working with a strong commitment to fulfill those hopes and aspirations,' he added.
Majhi said that in the past year, he has visited all the districts of Odisha, spoken to the people, and reviewed various development works.
He emphasized that a firm stance has been taken to fight corruption. 'Look at the record of the past year: from a peon to an IAS officer, no corrupt official has been spared,' he asserted.
Highlighting the progress made, the Chief Minister said that due to the government's strong will and commitment, almost all major promises made to the people have been successfully implemented.
He mentioned that through the Kisan Kalyan Yojana, the annual income of every farmer family in the state has increased by at least Rs.30,000.
Efforts are also underway for the all-round development of the tribal community, and the government has implemented the Ayushman Bharat Yojana to provide quality healthcare to all.
The Chief Minister further stated that the government has raised the age limit for government jobs for the youth to 42 years and provided 11.25 percent reservation of seats in higher education for SEBC students.
Majhi said that employment opportunities have been created for 12.90 lakh youth with an investment of Rs.17 lakh crore.
He also stated that the South Odisha Development Council and the North Odisha Development Council were established to ensure development reaches every region of the state.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister inaugurated various welfare schemes, including an exhibition on handlooms, handicrafts, local products, and a food court.

Action committee questions construction cost of houses

Kozhikode: The Janashabdam Action Committee for Wayanad landslide victims has waded into the controversy over the cost of the houses being constructed at the township coming up at Elstone Estate for the landslide survivors saying that the model house does not seem to have cost Rs 30 lakh as claimed by govt authorities. Action committee chairperson Nazeer Alakkal said that it is not proper to reap profits on the disaster front. "The people who are in the beneficiary list and are awaiting houses at the township are very concerned over the controversy. Just look at the 1,250sqft house provided by Kerala Police Association at a cost of Rs 23 lakh. If the landslide survivors were provided Rs 30 lakh, we would have built a 2,000sqft house," Alakkal said. He said that it has been specifically mentioned in the law that disaster rehabilitation efforts should be carried out only after consultations with the victims. "Even the court has said that. But here what consultations have been carried out with us? The district collector should immediately convene a meeting of the people in the beneficiary list and hear their suggestions. We had told the collector that the stairs from the ground floor should be provided from inside the house but in the model house it has been provisioned from outside," he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villas For Sale in Dubai Might Surprise You Dubai villas | search ads Get Deals Undo Also, the beneficiaries have raised concerns over the metal awning above the window instead of a proper concrete sunshade saying that it could lead to water seepage in the monsoon. Congress leaders had said that the model house should not have cost Rs 30 lakh. However, Uralungal Labour Contract Cooperative Society (ULCCS), which took up the project, said each house cost Rs 22 lakh to build and with 18% tax, the final price would be Rs 25.9 lakh. Action committee convener Shajimon Chooralmala said that even the construction cost of Rs 23 lakh claimed by ULCCS seemed to be exaggerated as construction costs won't work out to that figure with around 400 houses being built. "Also, we want to have the tiled roofed portion in the front replaced with concrete roofing and the stairs should be provided from inside the house," he said.

BJP accuses Congress of 'targeting saints, soldiers, Sanatan Dharma' for vote bank politics

New Delhi, Aug 1 (UNI) Continuing its tirade against the Congress over the Malegaon Blast case issue following the verdict acquitting all seven accused, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today slammed the Opposition party for what it termed as "targeting saints, soldiers, Sanatan Dharma, and the Constitution" over the past 17 years as part of a "deliberate strategy to malign Hindus for electoral gains". Speaking at a press conference here, party spokesperson Sambit Patra said, 'Saints, soldiers, Sanatan, and the Constitution — Congress attacked all four for 17 years. It was a calculated strategy to malign Hindus for vote bank politics. But in the end, truth has triumphed.' Patra's remarks came in response to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) court's acquittal of all seven accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast case. He alleged that the Congress party, particularly the Gandhi family, had sought to create a false narrative of 'saffron terror', deliberately linking Hindu identity with terrorism. 'The judgment by the NIA court has shattered the false propaganda that Congress tried to spread for years,' he added. Referring to a major revelation, Patra cited former Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) officer Mehboob Mujawar, who claimed he was pressured by senior officers and government officials to arrest Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat, despite Bhagwat's name not featuring in any charge sheet or investigation report. Mujawar resisted, citing constitutional limits, and faced false allegations and career setbacks. He was later acquitted by the court, Patra said. 'This is a clear example of Congress' vindictive politics under the Gandhi family's leadership,' he asserted, a day after his colleague and senior party leader Ravi Shankar Prasad had sought Congress apology for making remarks that the blast was a case of 'Hindu terror'. Patra also recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi's earlier statement alleging that a senior Congress leader had met American intelligence officials and labelled 'Hindu terror' a bigger threat than the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI). 'Everyone knows who that leader is,' he remarked, indirectly referring to the Gandhi family. He further criticised Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan for his comments that 'terrorism has no religion' while simultaneously referring to 'Sanatani or Hindu terrorism.' Patra also cited former Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde's admission that his 'saffron terror' remarks were made under party directives. UNI AJ RN

WB govt to provide 16 types of services under ‘Amader Para, Amader Samadhan' scheme

Excluding festival days and official holidays, the camps will be organised in every block, village, and urban area across the districts of Bengal, he said. 'The key issues to be offered from these camps are drainage, development of ICDS centres, primary schools, ponds, garbage management, marketplaces, public transport, urban greening, and road maintenance and others,' the official said. Kolkata, Aug 1 (PTI) The West Bengal government will provide 16 types of services under the 'Amader Para, Amader Samadhan' (our neighbourhood, our solution) scheme starting across the state from August 2, a senior official said on Friday. 'One centre will be set up for every three booths. After listening to citizens' issues, the concerned departments will take action. All proceedings will be managed digitally, ensuring transparency. Local authorities have been instructed to collect a detailed record of problems through these camps,' he said. Citizens will be allowed to report problems themselves without any intermediaries, he said, adding that with over 80,000 booths across the state, the government has planned to set up around 27,000 camps under this initiative. The programme will continue until November 3. The West Bengal government will simultaneously run two flagship outreach programmes — 'Duare Sarkar' and 'Amader Para, Amader Samadhan' — over the next two months, aiming to ensure delivery of services and swift resolution of local issues at the grassroots level.
