Rampaging Marquez hungry for more as MotoGP heads to Spain
Marquez is determined to continue his blistering start to the MotoGP season as the riders gear up this weekend for their first visit to Spain.
The six-time world champion looks back to his dominating best after making the switch to the factory Ducati team, winning three of the opening four races and sweeping the sprints.
The Spaniard has not put a foot wrong this season, aside from his crash while leading the Grand Prix of the Americas in Texas last month.
His form is reminiscent of his peak between 2013 and 2019, when he won the world title six times, before a decline brought on by injuries.
Marquez, who leads the standings by 17 points ahead of younger brother Alex, is a three-time winner in Jerez -- in 2014, 2018 and 2019, but Bagnaia has triumphed in each of the last three years.
'It's one of the most special GPs, I think for every rider, but especially for Spanish riders. I have very good memories from there, some bad memories,' said Marquez, who also broke his arm at Jerez in 2020.

Pogacar ‘respects' Vingegaard in Tour de France rivalry
AFP | Lille Defending champion Tadej Pogacar insisted he had every respect for his great Tour de France rival Jonas Vingegaard ahead of Saturday's opening stage in Lille. The 26-year-old Slovenian won the Tour de France, Giro d'Italia and world title in 2024 and is hot favourite again here. Speaking at the Lille Opera House on Thursday the Team UAE rider laughed off suggestions of bitterness, when asked about harsh words between the two in previous races. 'Look in the heat of the moment you can maybe scream something at someone,' said Pogacar, dressed in his world champion rainbow shirt. Pogacar won the Tour in 2020 and again in 2021, when Vingegaard was second. The Dane won in 2022 and 2023, with the Slovenian runner up both times. Pogacar, who rides for Team UAE, recaptured the title last year with Vingegaard, of the powerful Visma squad, second. 'The last five years have been intense between me and Jonas,' Pogacar said. 'It's a great competition and rivalry and it will be interesting to see if the title changes hands again.' 'I'm looking forwards to taking on Jonas again. It's going to be great for people on television and along the roadsides.'

Real Madrid edge past Juve as Dortmund advance into quarters
Spanish giants Real Madrid beat Juventus 1-0 on Tuesday to set up a Club World Cup quarter-final clash against Borussia Dortmund, who edged Mexican side Monterrey. Serhou Guirassy struck twice for the German outfit as they scraped past Sergio Ramos's side 2-1 in a tight last-16 clash in Atlanta and denied the former Real Madrid skipper a match-up against his former team. Youngster Gonzalo Garcia headed home his third goal of the tournament to help Madrid edge Italian side Juventus at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami earlier. It was an impressive display from Xabi Alonso's Madrid side, unbeaten under the new coach, and they were fur - ther boosted by Kylian Mbappe's return from illness as a substitute. ' We had a lot of chances in the second half, but their goal - keeper was really good,' said Madrid shot-stopper Thibaut Courtois. The first half was a finely-balanced contest with Igor Tudor's Juventus starting brightly before Real ended it on top. Los Blancos kept turning the screw and found their goal when Trent Alexander-Arnold crossed for Gonzalo to head home after 54 minutes. Alonso decided to introduce Mbappe to the delight o f the 62,149 crowd but the striker did not find any clear openings as Juve pushed for an equaliser. Madrid's coach was pleased with his team's performance, including that of Gonzalo -- who he had compared to former Real great Raul -- but also suggested that Mbappe might be ready for a bigger contribution in the next game. ' We will keep watching him... I think he will be much better for the quarters,' Alonso said. Alonso added that he was satisfied to see Real produce the necessary grit to grind out the result in the second half. 'We had to be patient, we had to mature into the game,' said the coach. 'With the players and myself, you know you have to grit your teeth and do what you have to do. And in the end, we had to hold on a bit, and I'm happy about that too.' Juve boss T u d o r said his team became exhausted as the game developed. 'In the end there were 10 of them asking to be substituted. Obviously you can't do that but there was an incredible tiredness,' he said, offering his reasons. 'There is the tension of the game which burns energy but then there is the heat and humidity,' explained Tudor, also noting they were at the end of a long season.
