'Republican' Sydney Sweeney links up with Euphoria cast including trans actress Hunter Schafer amid American Eagle backlash
Sydney Sweeney was spotted belting out karaoke with her Euphoria besties this weekend, and honestly, the timing couldn't be messier. Just days after her new American Eagle campaign dropped and right after the internet found out she's allegedly registered as a Republican, Sydney hit up The GasLite in Santa Monica like nothing happened. Between political drama and brand backlash, fans are now side-eyeing her recent outing, with many wondering if her hanging out with Hunter Schaffer, a pro-Palestine trans actor, is a PR move. Sydney Sweeney parties with the Euphoria cast amid political backlash In clips all over TikTok and Reddit, Sydney was seen singing her heart out alongside Hunter Schafer and Maude Apatow, looking unbothered in low-rise jeans and good lighting. Keeping true to her American Eagle sponsorship, she was seen dressed in an oversized denim shirt. In the now viral videos, the girls are seen vibing, and even though it was their first sighting together in years, they all looked pretty tight with each other. While some fans chalked it up to a classic girls' night, others couldn't help but notice that Hunter—a trans activist known for protesting for Palestine—was suddenly buddying up with someone whose alleged political affiliations don't exactly scream 'progressive solidarity.' According to several fan pages, Jacob Elordi was also lurking in the background, but the videos say this could have very well been a chill girls night out. Reddit thinks it's a PR play—and they're not subtle about it Users across Reddit are calling this whole outing a soft rebrand in real-time. 'Aaand now the PR machine is running at full throttle,' one person wrote. Another added, 'Quick, quick, put MAGAney with world-famous trans actress Hunter for the first time in years.' Many fans feel Hunter's presence was the ultimate cleanup move, like a glittery Instagram filter over a messy situation. Fans are disappointed in Hunter Schafer for co-signing the chaos Hunter's appearance in the night-out clips is stirring its own mini firestorm. Some fans were surprised and a little heartbroken to see her hanging out with Sydney in the middle of a political controversy. 'Hunter is out here whitewashing Sydney's image without even realising it,' one user said. Others pointed out that Hunter's own activism makes this friendship harder to swallow, especially when it feels like it's being used to soften Sydney's rep. Wait, so is Sydney really a Republican or what? BuzzFeed recently reported that Sydney Sweeney is a registered Republican voter in Idaho, which sent her name straight back into trending territory. While being registered doesn't confirm every belief, it lines up with past internet drama like that cowboy-themed birthday party her family threw, complete with what looked like MAGA gear. Fans who were already iffy about her political silence are now raising eyebrows even higher. The American Eagle campaign that launched a thousand tweets Sydney's new American Eagle campaign was supposed to be nostalgic, cute, and denim-core. Instead, it landed right in the middle of a full-blown internet spiral. Some fans were confused why the brand chose her at all, while others are now boycotting the collab. TikTok and Twitter users called it 'tone deaf,' with many believing it reflected white supremacy, but American Eagle hit back at criticism, saying, 'it was always about jeans, not genes'. About Euphoria 3 According to Deadline, Euphoria season 3 is currently aiming for a 2026 release. Filming officially began in February 2025 in Los Angeles, but HBO hasn't confirmed a premiere date yet. The upcoming season is expected to feature eight episodes, continuing the format of the previous two seasons. The Emmy-winning series stars Zendaya as Rue, alongside Hunter Schafer, Sydney Sweeney, Alexa Demie, Maude Apatow, Jacob Elordi, and more. Earlier, photos of Sweeney shooting for the show in a wedding gown were leaked online, hinting she might be getting married to Nate (Jacob Elordi) in the show, and well, all fans ever wanted was for Cassie to be happier.
