FIR against Indian Army officer for "murderous assault" of SpiceJet staff at Srinagar airport over baggage
According to a statement released by the airline, the passenger "grievously assaulted four SpiceJet employees at the boarding gate of flight SG-386 from Srinagar to Delhi on July 26, 2025." The altercation reportedly began after the officer was informed that his two pieces of cabin baggage, weighing a total of 16 kg, exceeded the permissible limit of 7 kg.
SpiceJet claims that when staff members "politely informed [him] of the excess baggage and asked to pay the applicable charges," the passenger refused and forcefully entered the aerobridge without completing the boarding process, which the airline described as "a clear violation of aviation security protocols." He was escorted back by a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) official.
What followed was a violent episode at the boarding gate. "Our staff members suffered a spinal fracture and serious jaw injuries after being attacked with punches, repeated kicks and a queue stand," the airline said in its statement. "One SpiceJet employee collapsed unconscious on the floor, but the passenger continued kicking and hitting the fainted employee."
Another staff member attempting to assist the injured colleague was also attacked. "Another staff member suffered bleeding from the nose and mouth after receiving a forceful kick to the jaw while bending down to assist the colleague who had fainted," the statement added. All four injured employees were rushed to a hospital and are currently undergoing treatment for what the airline described as "grievous injuries."
SpiceJet confirmed that it has filed a First Information Report (FIR) with the local police and has begun the process of placing the officer on India's no-fly list.
"SpiceJet has written to the Ministry of Civil Aviation appraising them about the murderous assault on its staff and has requested appropriate action against the passenger," the airline stated. CCTV footage of the incident has also been handed over to authorities.
The airline said, "SpiceJet strongly condemns any act of violence against its employees and will pursue this matter to its fullest legal and regulatory conclusion."

New Delhi: In a shocking incident onboard IndiGo flight 6E138 from Mumbai to Kolkata, on Friday, a passenger was allegedly assaulted mid-air by a fellow traveller while receiving assistance from the IndiGo crew. Sources told ANI, a passenger who appeared to be feeling unwell was being attended to by IndiGo cabin crew when another flyer suddenly slapped him without any apparent reason. The motive behind the assault remains unclear at this time. Sources confirmed that IndiGo has termed the assailant's behaviour as "unruly" and that the individual was handed over to security upon arrival in Kolkata. The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) took custody of the accused at the airport for further investigation. India: MEA says Nimisha Priya's execution postponed, urges to avoid misinformation
New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs on Friday confirmed that Indian national Nimisha Priya's execution in Yemen has been postponed, urging the public and media to stay away from unverified reports and misinformation circulating on the case. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that the government is providing all possible assistance to Priya and her family, working closely with local authorities and friendly governments to resolve the issue. During the weekly briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal responded to ANI's question, saying, "This is a sensitive matter. The Government of India has been extending all possible assistance in the case. As a result of our concerted efforts, the sentencing has been postponed. We continue to follow the matter closely and provide all possible assistance." The execution, initially scheduled for July 16, was postponed following diplomatic interventions and negotiations led by the Indian government. Jaiswal clarified that reports claiming her death sentence has been completely overturned are incorrect. "We are also in touch with some friendly governments on the issue... Reports claiming that there have been certain developments are incorrect. Please wait for an update from us. We urge all sides to stay away from misinformation," he said.
