Tofiq Musayev ready for 'different level' in UFC on ABC 8 debut

Yahoo19-06-2025

Tofiq Musaev enters his UFC on ABC 8 debut with a more decorated resume than most newcomers, but he knows stepping into the octagon is something unto itself.
Musayev (22-5 MMA, 0-0 UFC), who won the 2019 Rizin FF lightweight grand prix and has beaten the likes of Patricky Freire, Johnny Case and Sidney Outlaw, will test himself against the 155-pound roster in the UFC starting with Saturday's matchup against Myktybek Orolbai (13-2-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) at Baku Crystal Hall in Azerbaijan (ABC, ESPN, ESPN+).

"It's a dream of all fighters to be fighting in the UFC," Musayev said through an interpreter at Wednesday's UFC on ABC 8 media day. "It's a different level of course. I feel very lucky that I'm ere. I have fought in different organizations but this is a unique one. I have prepared well and I am going to represent my country with pride. I have prepared specifically for my opponent."
Although Musayev has proven himself to be high level, there's speculation about whether, at 35, he's coming into the shark tank of the UFC's lightweight division too late to rise to the top.
Only time will tell, but he intends to give it his best shot.
"Age is just a number for me," Musayev said. "If anyone thinks otherwise, they shouldn't even be competing in the UFC."

"I'm focused on my opponent and later on I will focus on the next steps. This fight will determine what the next fights will be."

'This is not AI': Nassourdine Imavov rips UFC opponent Caio Borralho with creative video

Nassourdine Imavov isn't much of a trash talker, but it appears he's had enough of Caio Borralho. Borralho (17-1 MMA, 7-0 UFC) has spent months calling out Imavov (16-4 MMA, 8-2 UFC) but was dismissed by the French fighter, who had his sights set on a title shot. Borralho even went as far as saying Dagestan would be ashamed of Imavov. Advertisement Imavov was initially set to be the backup fighter for the middleweight title fight between champion Dricus Du Plessis and Khamzat Chimaev in the UFC 319 headliner on Aug. 16. However, he has opted to stay busy in the meantime and is now booked to face Borralho in the UFC Paris main event on Sept. 6 from Accor Arena. Borralho got his wish, but Imavov wasted no time in firing back at the Brazilian's constant jabs – and he even got creative with it. Check out the video below. Imavov is coming off a signature knockout win over former champion Israel Adesanya at UFC Fight Night 250. He is on a four-fight winning streak. Just behind them, Norris' McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri will share the second row with Leclerc's fellow Ferrari driver, Lewis Hamilton. Given the starting grid, it feels like a win is likely to come from one of those four. No driver has won at the Red Bull Ring from beyond the second row since David Coulthard stormed from seventh in 2001. George Russell will start from fifth, while Liam Lawson delivered a stunning qualifying performance for Racing Bulls and will line up sixth. Defending race winner and five-time Red Bull Ring champion Max Verstappen starts in seventh. It could be a challenging weekend for the reigning Formula 1 champion as he looks to fend off the surging McLaren duo in the 2025 points standings. Florida rockets up ESPN college football recruiting rankings

The Florida Gators are one of four new teams on the ESPN college football recruiting rankings after a strong summer filled with commitments. Florida ranks No. 14 in ESPN's end-of-June update, according to national recruiting analyst Craig Haubert. Thirteen of the class's 14 players committed this month, with eight ESPN 300 commits now under a verbal pledge to the university. A top-10 overall recruit at defensive end and one of the best pocket passers in the class highlight both sides of the ball, but there's plenty of talent to drool over throughout the class. "Landing one of the top defenders in the country is the fastest way to climb the recruiting rankings, and that's exactly what Billy Napier did by securing five-star defensive end JaReylan McCoy. Ranked No. 9 overall and the second-best defender in the ESPN 300, McCoy would be Florida's highest-rated defensive signee in more than a decade. The 6-foot-7, 260-pound Mississippi native brings elite length, explosive traits and a relentless motor that was on full display at the Under Armour All-America week in January." Reeling in McCoy is another "major recruiting win for Napier" over the likes of LSU and Texas, and there's now another player with game-changing potential in the mix. Florida is also loading up on linemen, "adding critical depth as Florida looks to reassert itself in the SEC." As anyone who follows college football recruiting knows, nothing is guaranteed these days. Florida could lose its entire class in a split second. Key fixtures of the class can bounce for a bigger NIL check. Napier prides himself on recruiting high-character athletes, but he's been burned a few times while figuring out this new age of recruiting as it changes. For now, a top-15 class is a feather in the cap and another recruiting pitch Florida can use to land the big names, however many are left out there.
