Myungrang Hotdog brings Korea's crispy craze to Columbus

Axios10 hours ago
After reading about America's Korean food craze, I finally visited one of Columbus' newer options, Myungrang Hotdog.
Catch up quick: The South Korean chain has 15 U.S. locations and this is the only one in Ohio.
It opened in 2022 and other local spots offering the viral snacks have followed, including Mochinut in Grandview and Chungchun Rice Dog inside Polaris.
The vibe: Myungrang is no-frills — just an ordering counter in a small Short North storefront with standing-room table counters on either side.
Plus: Expect lots of K-pop.
Dogs are made-to-order, taking about 10 minutes, but it's worth it. The only way to eat them is hot and freshly out of the fryer.
What I ate: First, the original hot dog ($5), in a "secret batter" that's deliciously crispy on the outside and light and chewy inside.
Then an adventurous squid-ink dog ($7), with half meat and half mozzarella filling. The ink-infused batter makes it extra savory.
There are several dipping sauces, from basic ketchup to sweet chili and cheesy mustard (my favorite).
My take: The meat inside was surprisingly good and the gooey cheese was definitely TikTok-worthy.
It's a dense treat that I probably couldn't eat often — but the same goes for American corn dogs.
Stop by: Noon-8pm Sunday-Thursday. Open till midnight Friday and 1am Saturday. 850 N. High St. Menu.

Mom reveals why her toddler son isn't allowed to watch ‘Peppa Pig' anymore

The animated kids TV show 'Peppa Pig' is facing scrutiny — and some moms are starting to push back. On July 13, one concerned mother, identified on social media as Kelly Arvan of Australia, took to TikTok to share an urgent warning to parents who let their kids watch 'Peppa Pig' after her son adopted a not-so-friendly phrase from the popular show. As she explains in the video, 'Peppa Pig' is no longer welcome inside her household. 'My son watches 'Peppa Pig,'' Arvan says at the beginning of the video. 'Like a month ago, he started going around to everyone saying, 'You're not my best friend.'' Arvan, who had no idea why her son was saying the phrase, told him it wasn't nice and that he wasn't allowed to say it anymore. It wasn't until she heard Peppa Pig say it in an episode of the show that she connected the dots. 'I'm just sitting on the couch and Kia (her son) is watching 'Peppa Pig' and I hear Peppa Pig saying, 'You're not my best friend anymore,'' she explained in her TikTok. Arvan immediately turned the show off before telling her son that he's not allowed to watch it anymore. Many parents took to the comment section to agree with Arvan, while praising other popular children shows like 'Bluey.' 'Bluey would never,' one parent commented. 'Peppa pig is a brat, I banned my kids when I noticed their energy shifting,' another parent commented. 'Blueys where its at now if bluey said it, there would be a lesson as to why its not nice,' a third user wrote. In an interview with Kidspot, published July 16, Arvan said it took her son, who is 3, about two weeks to stop saying the phrase after 'a lot of correcting and teaching.' 'Everytime I heard him say it, I'd ask him 'My son, where did you learn this? We don't say that, it's ok for someone to not be your best friend but you don't say it to hurt someone,'' she told the outlet. Now, when Arvan's son sees Peppa Pig on the TV, he knows to find something else to watch. 'Today for his screen time when I was browsing kids Netflix for him Peppa did pass the TV, Kia did say 'no more naughty Peppa' and he chose another show,' Arvan told Kidspot. Her son has since moved on to what Arvan described as more positive shows like Ms. Rachel and 'Trash Truck.' 'If he's watching something like Ms. Rachel or Trash Truck he is in a happy positive mood, when he's watching Peppa pig he can be a little more sassy,' she said of her son's change in behavior. Arvan's comments about 'Peppa Pig' are nothing new to the parenting community. Parents have long criticized the show for its bad messaging, which often includes fat-shaming Daddy Pig and other rude comments from members of the animated family. 'Peppa is just a spoiled brat who does nothing but fat shame her dad and get her way,' one parent wrote in a review, according to Common Sense Media. Another parent on the review site praised the show for being 'really funny' and described it as 'good for kids.' One parent said they liked the show for it's educational value, saying 'My 2 year old son learned a lot from the show.' As for Arvan, she now knows to keep her eyes (and ears) open when it comes to shows her son watches. 'Peppa is not a role model I personally as a parent would be proud for my child to learn from,' she told Kidspot. 'As parents we always monitor screen time, but small quick sentences from shows like this can be easily missed,' she added. 'With him being our first son, there is no parenting rule book. We are learning along the way as well and we are proud to share our knowledge with other parents,' she continued.

‘Ted Lasso' star out as Season 4 series regular in huge shock — first look photo revealed

AFC Richmond will be down a player next match. Phil Dunster, who played Jamie Tartt, is out as a 'Ted Lasso' series regular, Apple TV+ announced on Monday. According to Deadline, Dunster had a conflict, as he signed on to be a series regular on an untitled new HBO comedy with Steve Carrell. However, he may be able to appear in 'Ted Lasso' Season 4 in a 'limited capacity.' Several newcomers are also joining the cast, including Tanya Reynolds, Jude Mack, Faye Marsay, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey, Abbie Hern and Grant Feely, who will play Ted's son, Henry. Feely is a re-casting, as Henry was previously played by Gus Turner. 11 'Ted Lasso' cast members including Cristo Fernandez, Kola Bokinni, Toheeb Jimoh, and Phil Dunster, kneeling on the right. 'Ted returns to Richmond, taking on his biggest challenge yet: coaching a second division women's football team,' the official logline reads. 'Throughout the course of the season, Ted and the team learn to leap before they look, taking chances they never thought they would.' The series ran for three seasons before supposedly ending in 2023. 11 Jason Sudeikis and Brendan Hunt in 'Ted Lasso.' Apple TV Advertisement 11 Jason Sudeikis in a scene from 'Ted Lasso.' AP The show was a 'fish out of water' premise following American football coach Ted Lasso (Sudeikis), who found himself coaching AFC Richmond, an English football (soccer) team on a losing streak. Through his positive attitude and folksy sayings, Ted whipped the team into shape, including grumpy Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein, also a writer/producer) and the egotistical Jamie Tartt (Dunster), all while bonding with team owner Rebecca (Waddingham) and PR consultant Keely (Temple). A romance between Ted and Rebecca was teased but never materialized – leaving that as a possible plot in Season 4. 11 Jeremy Swift, from left, Juno Temple and Hannah Waddingham in a scene from the season three finale of 'Ted Lasso.' If Dunster isn't a series regular, it could mean Roy and Keely will get back together. There were hints that a Season 4 would happen after Season 3 ended. Now, Temple is also onboard. A premiere date for 'Ted Lasso' Season 4 hasn't been announced, yet.

Anne Hathaway Just Revealed Andy's New Style on The Devil Wears Prada 2 Set

THE RUNDOWN In the nearly 20 years since the original The Devil Wears Prada premiered, plenty of things in fashion and the print media landscape have drastically changed. Good thing Andy Sachs has weathered the storm (so far) and is back for the movie's highly anticipated sequel, set to release on May 1, 2026. According to Deadline, filming began in late June; however, exact details of the plot, and the fashion, have been kept under wraps. That is, until today. Prior to this morning's filming, Anne Hathaway took to TikTok, brushing her teeth in an extremely familiar cerulean sweater, though it doesn't look like the exact same one from the original movie. (This was a Frame crewneck pullover, where the OG was a cable knit that was 'no doubt, fished out of some clearance bin.') It's good to know that after years in the industry, Sachs has has retained her humble roots. That doesn't mean her style hasn't evolved at all—though she's certainly no longer the high-powered glamazon we saw borrowing the Chanel boots from the fashion closet, this Andy feels closer to the self-assured leather jacket- and black turtleneck-sporting version we saw in the original film's finale. The fashion didn't stop there: Hathaway continued to tease fans with even more looks. On Instagram and TikTok, she casually swirled in a stunning Gabriela Hearst patchwork maxi dress with the mysterious caption '#dwp2.' On set, the The Idea of You actress gave a glimpse of Sachs's day-to-day style. She was spotted in a Toteme tank top, AGOLDE denim maxi skirt, and Chanel Velcro dad sandals—a classically chic uniform for a now-seasoned New Yorker and a sure sign that jean skirts aren't going anywhere soon. In another scene, Hathaway embodied the part of a modern media mogul in a beautifully structured pinstripe suit vest and matching trousers. Looks like no matter what this city (or industry) throws at her, Sachs hasn't lost her effortlessly fashionable touch.
