Parliament Monsoon session: Amit Shah confirms killing of terrorists involved in Pahalgam terror attack
Mr. Shah said this as he began his address in Lok Sabha amid the ongoing debate on Operation Sindoor and informed that those who killed our citizens in the ghastly Pahalgam terror attack have been killed. "In a joint Operation Mahadev, the Indian Army, CRPF, and J&K Police have neutralised three terrorists who were involved in the Pahalgam terror attack," Mr. Shah said while addressing the lower house.
"Innocent civilians were killed in front of their families by asking their religion. I condemn this barbaric act. I express my sympathies to the families who lost their loved ones," he added. On Monday, three terrorists were killed in Operation Mahadev in an intense firefight with security forces in the Harwan area near Dachigam National Park of Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir.
During the discussion on Operation Sindoor in Parliament, BJP MP Baijayant Jay Panda told the House that it appears that at least one terrorist involved in the Pahalgam attack has been neutralised in an ongoing anti-terror operation, Mahadev, in Jammu and Kashmir.MP Panda said, "As we were debating this issue today, some of us must have seen in the news that an Operation Mahadev is being conducted in Jammu and Kashmir, targeted at terrorists and it appears that at least one of those eliminated today was involved in the Pahalgam attack."
The anti-terror Operation Mahadev took place in the general area of Lidwas, Chinar Corps of the Indian Army said."OP MAHADEV - Contact established in General Area Lidwas. Operation in progress," the Chinar Corp said in a previous post on X.

SC quashes FIR against Telugu actor Mohan Babu and his son in 2019 student protest case
In a major relief to Telugu actor-producer Mohan Babu and his son Vishnu Manchu, the Supreme Court on Thursday quashed a criminal case registered against them in a 2019 student protest in Tirupati over fee reimbursement. 'A reading of the FIR (First Information Report) and the charge-sheet neither discloses any act committed or illegal commission that caused common injury, danger, annoyance to the public or any section of the public or interference with their public rights, nor do they disclose any voluntary obstruction to a person that prevents them from proceeding in any direction that they have a right to proceed in," said the two-judge bench of the top court, headed by Justice BV Nagarathna and including Justice KV Viswanathan, in their verdict. The SC quashed the FIR against the father-son duo after finding that the offences invoked against the accused were not made out in the case. "The appellants (Babu and Vishnu) were exercising their right to freedom of speech and expression and to assemble peacefully," the court said. As per the prosecution case, ahead of the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh in 2019, Babu and his son along with others had held a rally along the Tirupati-Madanapalli road and raised slogans against the state government for not granting student fee reimbursements. They were booked on a complaint made by the person in charge of the Model Code of Conduct Team-IV, Chandragiri assembly constituency. In January this year, the Andhra Pradesh High Court refused to quash the proceedings in the case, forcing the father-son duo to knock the doors of the top court seeking relief in the case.

Election Commission finalises electoral college list ahead of upcoming vice-presidential election
Representative image NEW DELHI: Moving closer to announcing the schedule for the election to the office of vice-president of India, the Election Commission on Friday said it has finalised the electoral college list. The list, which, as per the law, must include all elected members of the Lok Sabha and elected and nominated members of the Rajya Sabha, unless the election of any member has been set aside by the high court in an election petition and who is disallowed to participate or vote in House proceedings, has these members listed in a continuous serial order, arranged alphabetically based on the state/Union Territory of their respective Houses. The electoral college list will be available for purchase at a counter set up in EC's Nirvachan Sadan headquarters, from the date of notification, which is likely to be announced soon. Even before EC — mandated by Article 324 to conduct the vice-presidential poll, following the home ministry's notification of Jagdeep Dhankhar's resignation in the gazette — announces the poll schedule, it must complete the pre-announcement activities like preparation of the electoral college, finalisation of the returning officer (RO) and assistant returning officer (ARO), and preparation and dissemination of background material on all the past vice-presidential elections. EC had earlier appointed the RO and ARO for the 2025 vice-presidential election, necessitated by the resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar on July 22.

In a written reply to the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh said that the allocation of chair and vice-chair positions in UNSC subsidiary bodies is a routine, annual exercise, traditionally based on consensus among members. 'Pakistan's role is largely ceremonial, limited to assisting the Chair with logistical and procedural preparations to ensure the Committee functions smoothly," Singh said. The MoS further added that, as per established practice, all chairships and most vice-chair roles are offered to non-permanent members. In 2025, around 24 such positions were allocated. Pakistan, which is a non-permanent member of the UNSC for the 2025–26 term, was appointed Chair of the UNSC 1988 (Taliban) Sanctions Committee and Vice-Chair of the UNSC 1373 Counter-Terrorism Committee, alongside Russia and France. Singh said Pakistan's role as Chair of the Sanctions Committee is primarily to convene and facilitate meetings and coordinate among members to implement the committee's mandate under Resolution 1988 (2011). He stressed that all decisions are made by consensus, meaning no single member can unilaterally influence the committee's agenda or outcomes. The minister further noted that these positions exist to support the implementation of mandates set by relevant UNSC resolutions. Since decisions in these subsidiary bodies require consensus, no individual member wields independent control over the agenda or decisions. 'Positions within the subsidiary bodies of the Security Council are primarily intended to support the implementation of mandates set out in relevant UNSC resolutions. As decisions in these bodies are taken by consensus, no individual member can unilaterally influence the agenda or contents," he added. Pakistan was elected a non-permanent member of the UNSC in early June, soon after India's 'Operation Sindoor'. Along with its roles in the sanctions and counter-terrorism committees, Pakistan was also named co-chair of two informal working groups within the Security Council.
