2025 MLB Odds: Bettors Believe Detroit Tigers Can Win AL Pennant

Major League Baseball 2025 MLB Odds: Bettors Believe Detroit Tigers Can Win AL Pennant Published Aug. 5, 2025 10:55 a.m. ET share facebook x reddit link Is 2025 the year of the Tiger? Bettors at one sportsbook would certainly argue that's the case when it comes to the AL Pennant race, because at BetMGM, they're backing Detroit in a big way. At +340, the Tigers are the favorite to win the AL. They also have the highest ticket at 22.1% and the highest handle at 19.4%. And if you guessed that Detroit is BetMGM's biggest liability when it comes to this market, you were right. But will bettors' enthusiasm translate to them winning the league? Let's dive into one expert's insight after taking a look at some of the Tigers' other odds at BetMGM as of Aug. 5. World Series +900 (bet $10 to win $100 total) American League Central Winner -10000 (bet $10 to win $10.10 total) World Series: Division of Winning Team AL Central: +700 (bet $10 to win $80 total) World Series: League of Winning Team American: +125 (bet $10 to win $22.50 total) ALCS: Division of Winning Team AL Central: +280 (bet $10 to win $38 total) Are the 66-48 Tigers actually a good bet to win the AL — especially since they're in a league with contenders like the Yankees and Blue Jays? According to FOX MLB writer Rowan Kavner, the organization fell slightly short of beefing up its roster with the necessary pieces at the trade deadline to make a real push. "Considering they've been one of the best teams in baseball all year, I expected them to more meaningfully address their deficiencies," Kavner wrote about the Tigers' trade deadline moves. "They could have used an elite piece at the back end. Instead, they opted to address their pitching issues with quantity over quality, favoring slight upgrades over major upside. ADVERTISEMENT "They should still cruise to a division title, but this felt like an opportunity missed." Want great stories delivered right to your inbox? Fox gets into direct-to-consumer game, featuring NFL, MLB, college football

Fox will launch a new service on Aug. 21 that will allow viewers to directly access its Sunday NFL, Saturday college football, MLB postseason games and other live sports without a larger subscription to a cable, satellite or bundled streaming service like YouTube TV or Fubo, the company announced Tuesday. Advertisement 'Fox One' subscriptions will cost $19.99 per month and include all programming running on Fox's broadcast network, including live sports and news. The paid service is aimed at consumers who don't access Fox through traditional linear or digital channels, although it will be available to anyone with access to Fox through cable or bundled streaming services at no additional cost. So-called 'direct-to-consumer' services have been a staple of sports fans' consumption habits. Examples include YouTube's Sunday Ticket, NBC's Peacock and mega-platforms like Netflix (which broadcast the NFL on Christmas Day last year, in addition to several boxing matches over the past year) and Amazon Prime Video (which airs the NFL's Thursday night game and will launch NBA coverage this upcoming season). In the coming weeks, ESPN is anticipated to enter the DTC market with an updated, eponymously branded 'ESPN' service, available through a revamped app and including all of ESPN's live games and programming. Earlier this year, ESPN announced a subscription price point of $29.99 per month for ESPN's direct service. ESPN has previously offered direct-to-consumer live sports, most recently through its ESPN+ subscription. On an investor call Tuesday morning, Fox CEO Lachlan Murdoch noted that no programming — sports or otherwise — would be exclusive to the Fox One platform and that subscription expectations were 'modest.' One early indicator of Fox One's traction could come as early as Aug. 30, when Fox airs a college football season-opener featuring Texas at Ohio State, the No.1- and No. 2-ranked teams and one of the most highly anticipated season openers in modern college football history. Fox's NFL regular-season coverage begins Sept. 7, and the World Series will start near the end of October. In January, a sports-focused DTC service intended to be a joint venture between ESPN, Fox and TNT Sports — dubbed 'Venu' — was shuttered.
