Russia's Lavrov Arrives in North Korea to Bolster Strategic Ties
Lavrov's visit, scheduled to last until Sunday, includes a meeting with North Korea's foreign minister, as reported by KCNA. He flew out of Kuala Lumpur, the Malaysian capital, following the ASEAN foreign ministers' meeting and arrived in Wonsan, a city on North Korea's eastern coast. This visit is part of a dramatic upgrading of strategic cooperation between Russia and North Korea, which now includes a mutual defense pact. Furthermore, South Korean intelligence services indicate that North Korea may be preparing to deploy additional troops in July or August. Previously, they had sent more than 10,000 soldiers to fight with Russia in the war against Ukraine.
Additionally, North Korea has agreed to dispatch 6,000 military engineers and builders for reconstruction projects in Russia's Kursk region that saw a mass cross-border incursion by Ukrainian forces nearly a year ago. Future Plans and Discussions
Russian news agencies also reported Lavrov's arrival and stated that he would travel to China after North Korea to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation meeting scheduled for Monday and Tuesday. Russia's state TASS news agency reported that Lavrov and his North Korean counterpart, Choi Son Hui, will discuss the 40-month-old Ukraine conflict and the situation on the Korean peninsula.
TASS also noted that the new coastal resort could boost Russian tourism to North Korea, citing the resumption of direct trains from Moscow to Pyongyang and a project to build a bridge across the Tumen River. This river forms part of the boundary between North Korea, China, and Russia.
Deputy Russian Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko stated that more high-level delegations would visit North Korea later this year. Rudenko emphasized that the accord on strategic partnership 'clearly meets the changing needs over recent decades and strengthens traditionally friendly, good-neighbourly Russian-Korean relations to a qualitatively new level as allies.'

Iran to Hold Talks with China, Russia at SCO Summit
Iran announced that it would hold talks with its Russian and Chinese partners on the sidelines of a Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit on Tuesday, according to Reuters. 'We will have bilateral meetings with the Chinese Foreign Minister, which naturally has its own importance in the current situation, as well as with the Russian Foreign Minister,' Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said on Telegram. SCO Established in 2001, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is a 10-nation Eurasian security and political grouping. It consists of several members such as China, Russia, India, Pakistan and Iran. Israel Iran Conflict On June 13, Israel launched a wave of airstrikes on Iran under the name of Operation Rising Lion. The military campaign targeted Iran's nuclear facilities and killed top military commanders and nuclear scientists. The US became directly involved in the conflict between Israel and Iran on June 22 after launching airstrikes on the Iranian nuclear facilities in Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan. Russian & Chinese Condemnations Crucially, Russia has deeply condemned and regretted US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities stating that the U.S. actions had increased the number of participants in the conflict and further fueled the tensions. Meanwhile, Chinese scholar and former diplomat Dr. Victor Gao described Israel's strikes on Iran as a 'war of aggression.' During his online interview with Al Arabiya English's GNT, Gao denounced Israel's attacks and missiles on Iranian nuclear facilities, describing them as a 'surprise attack' that could have global ramifications. 'China really deplores Israel's military attack on nuclear facilities inside Iran and considers it as a very serious offense against a world of peace and security,' Gao said. Trump to slam Russia with 'severe' 100% tariffs if no Ukraine deal is made in 50 days
WASHINGTON — US President Donald Trump said on Monday he has struck a deal with NATO to purchase the weapons that will be delivered to Ukraine, as he met NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Washington. "We made a deal today where we will be sending weapons to (Ukraine) and NATO will be paying for it," Trump announced at a press conference at the White House. The US is ready to implement 100% tariffs on Russia in response to President Vladimir Putin's lack of interest in ending his war in Ukraine, which could kick in in 50 days, according to Trump. "We're very unhappy with Russia and we'll be doing very severe tariffs ... at about 100%," Trump said. "We've spent $250 billion on this war ... and we want to see it end. I am disappointed in Putin because I thought we'd have a deal two months ago," he added. Trump has publicly expressed irritation with Russian President Vladimir Putin's reluctance to reach a peace deal in Ukraine. "I am very disappointed with President Putin," Trump said. "I thought he was somebody that meant what he said. And he'll talk so beautifully and then he'll bomb people at night. We don't like that." In an about-turn last week, Trump said that Washington would send sophisticated weapons, including Patriot air defence systems, to Ukraine via NATO. The Patriot missile system can detect and intercept a wide range of oncoming air targets, high-end ballistic missiles in particular, and is regarded as one of the world's best, at a time when Moscow is increasing its nightly missile and drone attacks amid its all-out war against Ukraine, now well into its fourth year. Speaking at the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Rome on Thursday, Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Germany would pay for two of the systems, while Norway has agreed to supply one. Other European partners have also said they are prepared to help, Zelenskyy said. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Friday that some of the US-made weapons that Ukraine is seeking are already deployed with NATO allies in Europe. Those weapons could be transferred to Ukraine quickly, with European countries buying replacements from the US, he said. "It's a lot faster to move something, for example, from Germany to Ukraine than it is to order it from a (US) factory and get it there," Rubio told reporters during a visit to the ASEAN summit in Kuala Lumpur. After repeated Russian drone and missile onslaughts on Kyiv, authorities announced on Friday that they are establishing a comprehensive drone interception system under a project called Clear Sky. The project includes a 260-million-hryvnia (approximately €5.3 million) investment in interceptor drones, operator training, and new mobile response units, according to Tymur Tkachenko, the head of the Kyiv military administration. Rutte is in Washington on Monday and Tuesday for talks with Trump, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth and members of Congress. "I'm gonna have a meeting with the secretary general who's coming in tomorrow," Trump told reporters in Washington on Sunday night. "But we basically are going to send them various pieces of very sophisticated (weapons) and they're gonna pay us 100% for them." Russia's Lavrov meets China's President Xi Jinping
Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met with Chinese President Xi Jinping, the spokeswoman of the Russian foreign ministry said on Tuesday. Lavrov is visiting China for a foreign ministers meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). 'Lavrov conveyed to the Chinese leader a friendly greeting and best wishes from the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin,' the Russian ministry said in a statement on its website. 'The two sides discussed a number of issues concerning bilateral political contacts ... including preparations for the Russian President's upcoming visit to the People's Republic of China.' The Russian president will travel to China to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit, hold talks with Xi Jinping and join ceremonies on September 3 marking the anniversary of the victory over Japan in World War II.
