Colleen Bready's Forecast: Heat continues, but thunderstorms possible

Colleen Bready has your current conditions and updated weather forecast for July 25, 2025. Things are heating up in southern Manitoba Friday, not the least of which are the temperatures. Daytime highs in Winnipeg and across the south will climb close to 30 C. The hot and humid conditions are part of an unstable air mass that prompted Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) to issue a severe thunderstorm watch Friday. The watch is in effect for a large swath of southern Manitoba, including Winnipeg and Brandon, the Interlake and central regions. (Photo by Kat Hedges) The weather agency says the air mass over those areas is becoming increasingly unstable and will trigger thunderstorms Friday afternoon into the evening. Some thunderstorms will likely become severe and could be capable of producing damaging wind gusts and hail, torrential rain, and even a tornado. Meanwhile, several regions across northern Manitoba remain under ECCC's air quality warning. The weather agency says relatively light winds will keep smoke concentrated near wildfires and nearby townsites. Rain showers are crossing the north Friday, bringing needed precipitation but also the risk of thunderstorms. Hot temperatures near 30 C will continue on Saturday in Winnipeg, with the possibility of afternoon thunderstorms. The forecast daytime high on Sunday is 26 C, which is the normal high for much of July for Winnipeg. A thunderstorm can't be ruled out either.
