He said the abrogation of Article 370 is a significant tribute to Mookerjee's nationalist ideals, which continue to inspire BJP workers and people across India.
Speaking to ANI, N Ramchander Rao said, 'Syama Prasad Mookerjee is the founder of the Jan Sangh and laid the roadmap for 'one nation, one law.' Today, the entire country appreciates his thoughts and ideas. Therefore, the abrogation of Article 370 is a great tribute to him. Today, the workers of the BJP and the people of this country remember Syama Prasad Mookerjee for his nationalist views and ideas.'
Syama Prasad Mookerjee was the founder of Bharatiya Jana Sangh, the ideological parent organisation of the BJP.
Born on July 6, 1901, in Calcutta, was a multifaceted personality, patriot, educationist, parliamentarian, statesman, and humanitarian. He inherited a legacy of erudition and nationalism from his father, Sir Ashutosh Mookerjee, an esteemed Vice-Chancellor of Calcutta University and Judge of the Calcutta High Court.
In 1940, he became the acting President of the Hindu Mahasabha and declared complete independence for India as its political goal.
Mookerjee resigned from the Bengal Cabinet in November 1942, protesting against the Governor's interference in administration and criticising provincial autonomy as ineffective.
His humanitarian efforts during the Bengal famine of 1943, including relief initiatives, highlighted his commitment to serving society.
Post-Independence, he joined the interim government under Jawaharlal Nehru as Minister for Industry and Supply, where he laid the foundation for India's industrial growth by establishing iconic institutions like the Chittaranjan Locomotive Factory, Sindri Fertiliser Corporation and Hindustan.
However, ideological differences led to his resignation, after which he founded the All-India Bharatiya Jan Sangh (1951) to champion nationalist ideals.
According to the BJP's official website, on the issue of the Delhi pact with Liaquat Ali Khan, Mookerjee resigned from the Cabinet on April 6, 1950. Later, on October 21, 1951, Mookerjee founded the Bharatiya Jana Sangh in Delhi and became its first president.
Mookerjee went to visit Kashmir in 1953 and was arrested on May 11. He died under detention on June 23, 1953. (ANI)

Cong. demands judicial probe into Haryana recruitment of assistant professors by HPSC
Alleging large-scale irregularities in the recruitment process for assistant professors in various subjects in Haryana, Congress Rajya Sabha member Randeep Surjewala on Sunday demanded that the exams be conducted again in a transparent manner and judicial probe initiated into the matter. A delegation of candidates also submitted a memorandum to former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda at his Delhi residence in this connection. Haryana Chief Minister's media secretary Praveen Attrey denied the allegations as 'baseless', saying that Mr. Surjewala had made similar accusations over half-a-dozen times since the BJP first came to power in 2014 and was 'frustrated' over the people voting the party to power for the third time in a row. Mr. Surjewala, at a press conference in Hisar, alleged irregularities in the exam for the recruitment of assistant professors (Geography) saying that 32 questions for the exam conducted by the Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC) were taken from the question paper for geography conducted by the Bihar Public Service Commission. The HPSC had advertised 2,424 posts for assistant professors in 26 subjects in August last year and around 1.5 lakh candidates had applied for it. The posts were advertised after a gap of around five years. 'Seals broken' Mr. Surjewala said seals of envelopes carrying question papers for assistant professor (Hindi) exam were found broken at six centres and the HPSC had to cancel the exam two days later. The HPSC initially maintained that the process was not compromised, but later cancelled the exam, which was the 'biggest proof of scam', alleged Mr. Surjewala. Addressing the delegation of the candidates appearing for the Assistant Professor exam, Mr. Hooda said that 'paper leaks, copy-paste exams and scams have become synonymous with the recruitments conducted under the BJP government'.

Will move SC seeking uniform rules for overage vehicles, says Delhi CM
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said on Sunday that the BJP government will approach the Supreme Court seeking uniform rules for overage or 'end of life' vehicles in the national capital that are in line with the regulations followed across the country. Lieutenant-Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena has also written to Ms. Gupta, urging her government to file a review petition in the apex court. He said it is 'irrational' that a 10-year-old diesel vehicle is deemed to have reached the end of its life in Delhi while remaining 'roadworthy' in other parts of the country. A 2018 Supreme Court judgment had banned diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles older than 15 years in Delhi as part of efforts to reduce vehicular pollution. 'We will tell the Supreme Court about the pollution control measures taken by the government. Parameters applicable in the rest of the country should apply to Delhi too. We don't want Delhiites to face any inconvenience,' Ms. Gupta told reporters. In his letter, the L-G acknowledged that air pollution is a shared responsibility and must be tackled with urgency and foresight. He called for a more 'balanced and technologically advanced framework' to address vehicle emissions. 'The policy execution must also reflect principles of legality, fairness, and socio-economic sensitivity,' it stated. 'Put ban on hold' Last week, Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa wrote to the Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR and Adjoining Areas (CAQM), requesting that it put on hold its directive to deny fuel to ELVs at petrol pumps. He also objected to the impounding of such vehicles identified through automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras. The CAQM is yet to respond. On April 23, the CAQM had directed that all ELVs identified through ANPR or similar systems at fuel stations would be denied fuel from July 1 in Delhi, from November 1 in Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddha Nagar, and Sonipat, and from April 1, 2026, in the rest of the National Capital Region (NCR). The Delhi government initially supported the CAQM's directive, and from July 1, the Transport Department and the Delhi police began impounding ELVs at fuel stations. However, within days, Mr. Sirsa wrote again to the CAQM, urging the panel to pause the enforcement of the ban.

Kataria: Dr Syama Prasad laid foundation of self-reliant India
Chandigarh: Gulab Chand Kataria, Punjab governor and UT administrator, recalled the contributions of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee on his 125th birth anniversary. "Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee was a staunch nationalist, visionary leader, thoughtful educationist, and enlightened parliamentarian, whose life journey is an inspiration for the youth. He served as the VC of Calcutta University at the age of just 33 and laid the foundation of industrial development as the first industry minister of independent India," Kataria said, paying rich tributes to him as the chief guest at the anniversary celebrations at Mahila Bhawan in Sector 38 here Sunday. He emphasised that Dr Mookerjee's industrial policy presented in 1948 is still considered the foundation stone of the country's self-reliant industrial structure. He said Dr Mookerjee's nationalism was not limited to political boundaries, but by establishing the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, he made patriotism, a cultural identity, and good governance the core of his ideology. Referring to Dr Mookerjee's resolution of "One Country, One Constitution, One Flag", Kataria said his movement against two constitutions and two PMs in J&K was a historic sacrifice for the unity and integrity of India. He said Dr Mookerjee's resolution was fulfilled by the Centre in the form of the nullification of Article 370 on 5 Aug 2019, which is a true tribute to his struggle and sacrifice. TNN
