‘Actor Vijay brought in to divide votes'
It is because TN came together as one many times in the past that many states are considering us as the frontrunner and following us now on issues like Hindi imposition, NEET and state autonomy. Moreover, if there are any external threats to India, we have rallied as Oraniyil India as well. During Operation Sindoor, all of us saw TN coming together under CM's leadership to express solidarity with the army. The necessity to come together now is the ideological war BJP has waged against our (Tamil) soil, language, and race. They are taking measures to impose Hindi, have not released funds meant for education, have not release funds under MGNREGS. We can go on to level many such charges against the BJP. People are ready to rally behind the CM against the harsh measures of the union government. That is why (as of July 16) about 1.35 crore people have joined the initiative. It will be a huge success. .
If the PMK join hands with the AIADMK again for 2026, what kind of an impact will it have in the northern districts?
If EPS is expressing hope about PMK joining the alliance, first he has to decide which leader of the PMK is with him since the party is now divided. Nobody is with him, except the TMC (M) and the BJP. In the last election, they announced 10.5% reservation (for Vanniyars) on the day election were to be announced in a bid to secure the votes of those innocent people. They, however, did not fall for this drama and DMK won big in the region.
EPS also said the union government announced caste census after he demanded the same with (Union Home Minister) Amit Shah in Delhi.
If that was the case, he should have said it before going to Delhi. Instead, he said he was going to inspect AIADMK's office. Now he is spinning more stories. One of them is that he demanded caste census.
PM is visiting Ariyalur this month. It is said that the BJP is already growing in Ariyalur and Perambalur districts.
They themselves claim that they are strong in the Kongu region, but they could not win in 2024. PM meditated in Kanniyakumari before polling. TN rejected them despite these gimmicks. It will be the same in Ariyalur and Perambalur. That region has strong influence of 'Periyar' (EV Ramasamy). PM seems to have discovered Rajendra Chola only now. But it was our CM who passed orders to celebrate Rajendra Chola's birthday on Thiruvathirai Thirunal as a government function.
2026 is likely to face a multi-cornered contest. It is said that the youth will support actor Vijay's TVK. What is DMK doing to attract the youth?
For every election, a new party is brought into the field to create a narrative that the youth will go with them. Actor Vijay has been brought for the same purpose. They believe that since youth go to his films, they will vote for him. Election will prove otherwise. DMK was started by youngsters. When our president (Stalin) was the youth wing secretary, many youths joined us. Similarly, now Deputy CM (Udhayanidhi Stalin) as secretary is bringing more youngsters through initiatives like providing platforms through competitions and training them. Moreover, this government is doing a lot for education. Schemes like Pudhumai Penn, Tamil Pudhalvan and Naan Mudhalvan have had a huge impact and resonated well with the youth.

Prateek's family visited her residence and agreed to the marriage, the complainant said. An engagement ceremony took place in December 2023, with the wedding planned for May 2024. However, Prateek delayed the wedding, citing Lok Sabha elections and the monsoon. Prateek took her to Latur and Shirdi in Maharashtra, where he continued to threaten and sexually assault her, the complaint alleged. In last 21/7 before 2026 state poll, Mamata taps Bengali anger, pride
Kolkata: Trinamool's 2026 assembly poll strategy is likely to focus on tapping the Bengal-first sentiments of the state's 7.6 crore voters. The party's last Martyrs' Day rally before the 2026 election showcased Bengali migrant labourers "harassed in BJP-governed states and Bengal residents facing NRC queries" as chief minister Mamata Banerjee called for a renewed "Bhasha Andolan (language movement)" from next week. "Hold meetings and rallies every weekend to protest against the attack on your language," she exhorted the Esplanade audience — by all estimates larger than last year's crowd — as she asked Trinamool MPs to make the Mahatma Gandhi statue on the Parliament campus the venue of their protest against the "violence against Bengal" and urged sports persons and "people from cultural background" to join in. "Bowl them (the BJP) out" and "hit them for a six" combined with references to BJP and its allied organisations' "movements against eating fish and meat" as Banerjee used Bengal's love for sports, its cuisine and its language as a bulwark against BJP's "Hindu-Muslim" narrative. "Why are there attacks on the Bengali language? Bengal fought for freedom, the renaissance began in Bengal. We will take the fight to Delhi if Bengalis are arrested in other states. I am not one to back down. Remember Singur-Nandigram?" she asked. "They are vandalising shops and saying: 'Don't eat fish, don't eat meat.' I dare you to try doing it once in Bengal," Banerjee said, asking her audience to "speak more Bengali". "You saw the result of their attack on Vidyasagar's bust?" she asked BJP, referring to the 2019 incident on Bidhan Sarani that had a significant impact on voting in Kolkata. BJP would pay again, she said, accusing it of torturing Matuas in Maharashtra, sending "NRC letters" to Rajbanshis and "breaking a Kali temple in Assam". "You once used to accuse me of not allowing Durga Puja and Saraswati Puja. Now, all of a sudden, you have remembered Ma Durga and Ma Kali. Ma Durga is our state and the nation's asset. Durga Puja has been granted the United Nations intangible heritage status. We will have a Durga Aangan in Bengal just like Digha's Jagannath temple," she said, reminding the audience of "the central government circular on camps and detention centres". "Over 1,000 people have been imprisoned in Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan. Some are even being sent to Bangladesh," she said, adding that the BJP's comeuppance would come with "people imprisoning its leaders in future". Banerjee then accused the Election Commission of "sitting in Gujarat and disenfranchising Bengalis and removing Bengalis from the voters' list", promising protests in Delhi. "The EC has already removed 40 lakh names in Bihar," she added, before taking on her Assam counterpart, Himanta Biswas Sarma ("who cannot handle his own state properly)", for meddling in Bengal's affairs. She then invited Uttam Kumar Brajabasi to stand beside her on the dais. "Assam has sent an NRC notice to a person residing in Coochbehar for 50-odd years. They must answer for this," she said. Banerjee also targeted PM Narendra Modi, accusing him of being "controlled by America". "Why did you fail to get PoK? Where was your protest when the US sent back planes full of Indians back to India?" she asked before asking the audience to help her achieve "paribartan (change)" at Centre.

Kharge: Trump's claim is humiliating
Mallikarjun Kharge NEW DELHI: Calling US President Donald Trump 's claim that he facilitated India-Pakistan ceasefire "humiliating", Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge sought a clarification on the issue. Kharge said that Trump has made the claim 24 times. Raising the issue during Zero Hour, the Congress president called for a two-day debate on the Pahalgam attack, Operation Sindoor and foreign policy. "The terrorists responsible have neither been apprehended nor eliminated to date," he said. "We had extended unconditional support to govt to maintain unity in the country and to strengthen the armed forces. In light of this, we wish to know from govt what the complete situation is," said Kharge, raising the issue. Kharge said the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Deputy Army Chief and one of the senior defence attache have made some revelations regarding Operation Sindoor. "Apart from this, govt should also clarify its stand on the statement of US President Donald Trump, because he has claimed not once but 24 times that he got the ceasefire done. This is humiliating for the country," he said.
