Steven Kwan out of Guardians' lineup against the Athletics with right wrist soreness
Manager Stephen Vogt said Kwan's status is day-to-day and that he has been dealing with wrist issues for over a month. Kwan left a May 28 game against the Los Angeles Dodgers due to wrist inflammation.
After playing in Tuesday night's All Star Game, Kwan met with doctors on Wednesday and received an injection.
Kwan's infield hit in the ninth inning drove in Bobby Witt Jr. with the tying run in the All-Star Game. The contest was tied at 6 after nine innings and was decided by a swing-off for the first time, which was won by the National League.
'We encouraged him to go play in the All-Star Game. He earned the right. We knew this was coming,' Vogt said.
It is only the sixth missed game for Kwan, who is batting .285 with six home runs and 32 RBIs.
Pitcher Shane Bieber will make his next rehab start on Tuesday for either Triple-A Columbus or Single-A Lake County.
Bieber — working his way back from Tommy John surgery in April 2024 — tossed two scoreless innings and struck out five on Tuesday in an Arizona Complex League outing. It was the first game action for the 2020 AL Cy Young Award winner since he experienced soreness during a bullpen session on June 3.
Infielder Gabriel Arias began a rehab assignment for Triple-A Columbus on Friday night. Arias sprained his left ankle against St. Louis on June 29.
Right-hander Nic Enright was recalled from Columbus after Paul Sewald was placed on the 15-day injured list on Tuesday due to a right shoulder strain.
Prospect Travis Bazzana, the No. 1 overall pick in last year's amateur draft, was activated off the injured list by Double-A Akron after missing two months due to an oblique strain.
The second baseman has a .252 batting average with four home runs, 17 RBIs and eight stolen bases in 33 games for the RubberDucks.

Letters to Sports: Time for Dodgers to make some changes
Between Mookie Betts hustling down the first-base line and Freddie Freeman's walk-off hit, Wednesday's Dodger victory over the Twins brought back great memories of last year's World Series. Hopefully this game will be a catalyst for getting the Dodgers out of the funk they have been in. Moving six-time right field Gold Glover Betts back to right (although his defense at short has been fine) would also propel the Dodgers to — as Tommy Lasorda used to say — taste the fruits of victory more often. Fox Sports: Luke Fickell among top college football coaches with most to prove in 2025
Wisconsin head coach Luke Fickell was included in Fox Sports' list of the 10 college football head coaches with the most to prove entering the 2025 slate on Thursday. Fickell, who joined the Badgers program at the tail end of the 2022 campaign, landed at No. 6 in the hierarchy. Penn State's James Franklin captured the top spot, followed by USC's Lincoln Riley (No. 2), Oklahoma's Brent Venables (No. 3), Miami's Mario Cristobal (No. 4) and Nebraska's Matt Rhule (No. 5). Florida State's Mike Norvell (No. 7), LSU's Brian Kelly (No. 8), Colorado's Deion Sanders (No. 9) and Alabama's Kalen Deboer (No. 10) rounded out the list. The former Cincinnati head coach's position on the 10-coach grouping doesn't come as much of a surprise. Fickell arrived in Madison after captaining the Bearcats to a combined 57-18 mark in six seasons at the helm, which included a 13-1 output and College Football Playoff appearance in 2021. Naturally, the expectations for Fickell were sky-high when he began pacing the sidelines for his first full season with the Badgers in 2023. Wisconsin entered that season at No. 19 in the AP Poll. Disappointing losses to Washington State, Iowa, Indiana and Northwestern then turned a season of hope into one of disappointment for Badger fans. UW finished with a 7-6 record and a 35-31 loss to LSU in the ReliaQuest Bowl in January. Fickell's program followed 2023 with a 5-7 finish in 2024, a season which saw the Badgers miss a bowl game for the first time since 2001. Wisconsin did start the year at 5-2, although the team concluded the campaign with five consecutive defeats to Penn State, Iowa, Oregon, Nebraska and Minnesota. While the 2024 schedule was far from a walk in the park, the team's 2025 slate may be even tougher. The Badgers are set to lace up against Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Michigan in Ann Arbor, Oregon in Eugene, Indiana in Bloomington and Minnesota in Minneapolis. UW will also welcome Iowa, Ohio State and Illinois to Camp Randall. Following the departures of Tyler Van Dyke and Braedyn Locke, Wisconsin will trot out transfer quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. against Miami (OH) in Week 1. New offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes, who abides by the ground-and-pound offensive philosophy, will be calling plays in his first season in Madison. If the Badgers fail to win more than four or five games this season, Fickell will likely face even more scrutiny than he has previously, even with his 12-13 record in two full years at the helm. Commanders rookie cornerback is confident: 'I love guarding any receiver'
The Commanders really need a cornerback to step up in 2025. For starters, three corners from the 2024 team were not invited back for 2025. Free agent Michael Davis was a major disappointment, playing only sporadically late in the season. Davis, age 30, has yet to be signed, and his NFL career may be in jeopardy. Benjamin St-Juste repeatedly struggled, and it didn't help him that officials across the league were also determined to call St-Juste for holding, too often. The 27-year-old St-Juste is a physical player, and the Chargers signed him in March. Emmanuel Forbes, though selected 16th overall in the 2023 NFL draft by Ron Rivera, was so unimpressive that the Commanders did not even wait until the end of the season to release Forbes. They released Forbes, giving his roster spot to someone else. Forbes was claimed by the Rams and spent the offseason trying to bulk up. The Commanders responded by drafting cornerback Trey Amos (61 overall) in the 2025 draft. Following Friday's practice, Amos was quickly surrounded by some of the media. "I like going against everybody, man. It's like being in love with the game," Amos told reporters. "I just love guarding any receiver, any day. This is a me vs. me. You know, the dog mentality. Just going hard every day, no matter who's in front of me. Just having that having that mindset where no one catches the ball on you. Not being hard on yourself, but just understanding, that's your job. You gotta do what you have to do." At least Amos does seem to be more concerned about getting started on the right foot about doing his job, rather than talking about how great he is going to be, or trying to be cool. Wouldn't it be great if the Commanders in back-to-back years landed reliable corners (Mike Sainristil 2024 and Trey Amos 2025)? Not a single first-round draft pick of Rivera's (2020-2023) is on the roster in only the 2025 training camp. That is such a poor drafting record, resulting in the need to sign more veterans who can make an immediate impact. Perhaps GM Adam Peters has drafted another good corner in Amos.
