‘I saved over £200 by swapping my pricey skincare for this Boots K-beauty brand'

Daily Mirror20-06-2025
With Korean beauty proving to be a big trend at the moment, I tried out key products from the viral K-beauty brand that's just launched into Boots – and I was super impressed
K-beauty isn't a new trend, but we've seen a huge rise in the popularity of Korean skincare this year, with shoppers after the 'glass skin' glow its hydrating formulas are famous for. It's also now easier than ever to buy here in the UK, with a number of top brands recently launching into mainstream retailers – including the brand Beauty of Joseon, now available from Boots, and already proving to be a big hit.
Keen to see what all the hype is about, I put aside my tried-and-tested skincare routine and instead reached for some of Beauty of Joseon's bestsellers, most of which retail for around the £15 mark – and I couldn't believe how glowing they made my skin look. Here's what I would re-buy...
Korean skincare products are all about hydration and glow via applying multiple light layers, rather than using thick, heavy formulas, and Beauty of Joseon is perfect for this. After cleansing, I started with the Beauty of Joseon Revive Eye Serum : Ginseng + Retinal, £15, which feels cooling and refreshing, and ideal if you're trying to tackle puffiness and dark circles , but if probably unlikely to make many long-term improvements to dryness and fine lines.
Next up was a product I'd never really used before, but which I feel made the biggest different to my skin: an essence. Glow Replenishing Rice Milk, £15.50, is designed to be patted into the skin. It's an excellent way to get extra hydration and radiance into the skin without piling on heavy layers, and I saw a noticeable glow from this. Our shopping writer Grace is also a fan, saying how one person actually stopped her in the street to compliment her glowing skin after using this.
I also tried a couple of serums from the Beauty of Joseon Hanbang Serum Discovery Kit, £23, which, although all lovely and lightweight, I don't really feel had enough 'anti-ageing' ingredients as my late-30s skin needs (perhaps better suited to younger skin). This was followed by Dynasty Cream, £21, the brand's moisturiser and currently stocked in the Love Island villa, which has a gel-cream texture; I think it would be great for oily to combination skin.
If you normally hate the feeling of greasy sunscreens on your face, you should definitely check out Korean formula, which are typically high factor but very lightweight – and Beauty of Joseon's are no exception. I'd probably use Relief Sun : Rice + Probiotics SPF 50+, currently £13.95, in winter, but Relief Sun Aqua-Fresh Rice + B5 SPF 50+, also now £13.95, feels like water, and it ideal in hot weather or if you have oily skin.
After using this full K-beauty routine, I couldn't believe how good my skin looked – fresh, juicy and glowing. The products that I think made the biggest difference were the Glow Replenishing Rice Milk and the Relief Sun Aqua-Fresh Rice + B5 SPF 50+ – I'll repurchase them, I'd definitely recommend looking at these ones first if you're thinking of trying the brand.
I would also save a huge amount of money if I stuck with this routine. My previous morning regimen consisted of Austinus Bader The Face Mist, £76, Skin Rocks The Eye Cream, £65, Medik8 Liquid Peptides Advanced MP, £79, ALLSKIN|MED Barrier Defence Emulsion, £82, and Ultra Violette Future Fluid Superlight Mineral Skinscreen SPF50+, £38, which together comes to a rather eye-watering £340. These Beauty of Joseon products I used, however, come to around £80 in total – a saving of around £260.

Hailey Bieber swears by this French pharmacy sunscreen – and it's now £21

From Sienna Miller and Alexa Chung 's 'French girl secret' to great skin (spoiler: it's a £14 retinol that tackles fine lines, wrinkles and pigmentation) to a £14 multitasker that's recommended by makeup artists as a makeup primer, makeup remover or even a moisturising face mask; we stock up on a long list of products whenever we're in Paris. And so does Hailey Bieber. Whilst applying her everyday morning skincare routine in the latest episode of Vogue's Beauty Secrets, Bieber revealed she picked up a new favourite facial sunscreen on a recent trip to the capital of France: Isdin's Fotoprotector Fusion Water MAGIC Urban SPF 30. Fotoprotector ISDIN Fusion Water MAGIC Urban SPF 30 £21.30 Shop Offering broad-spectrum protection and blue light filtering, this sunscreen with SPF 30 is formulated with antioxidant-rich ginger root extract to help combat oxidative damage from pollution and screen exposure. It has an ultralight, water-based texture that's oil-free, non-comedogenic, melts into the skin and doesn't irritate the eyes. 'I love sunscreen that's really hydrating and that's going to make your skin glowy. I typically gravitate towards milkier sunscreens, or a really nice tinted sunscreen,' Bieber says in the video. 'I feel like finding the right sunscreen just takes trial and error because one of the things that breaks me out the most is sunscreen.' 'Whenever I go to Paris, or I go to Europe, I love to go to the pharmacy and raid the suncare section because I just think the sunscreens from Europe are so much better than in the US,' she adds. 'They're my favourite. I got this one at the pharmacy when I was in Paris last time and I'm obsessed with it. I wish that I had bought five.' Before she continues with her minimal makeup routine, Bieber applies sunscreen to her hands, a body part many of us forget to shield from the sun. 'When I have leftover [product], I rub it on my hands,' she explains, 'because when you're driving and it's sunny, I just feel like your hands get the brunt of ageing.'

Get four Supergoop! SPFs for £11 each in limited-time bundle offer

Save £48.25 on four Supergoop! SPF favourites thanks to this limited-time bundle offer If you've ever been tempted to see whether Supergoop! lives up to the hype, now is a smart time to find out. As part of its branded kit collaborations for summer, Boots has dropped a limited-edition SPF kit featuring four of the brand's bestselling sun protection products *including two full sizes) for £44 despite being worth £92.25. That brings each product down to just £11, a significant discount when you consider one full-size tube of Unseen Sunscreen usually costs up to £34 alone. The Boots x Supergoop! Beauty Bag Edit includes four tried-and-tested formulas spanning everyday sunscreen, a luminous primer, a glow-giving stick and a face and body lotion—basically a capsule wardrobe of SPF. It arrives in a sunny yellow zip-up pouch and offers a 40% saving overall, working out to £48.25. A look inside Boots x Supergoop! Beauty Bag Edit Inside the edit is the Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen SPF 30 (full size), one of the brand's most viral products. It's clear, velvety and silicone-based, designed to double up as a primer that grips onto make-up without clogging pores or leaving a cast. Beauty editors and influencers have long named it their go-to invisible SPF, especially under foundation. You also get a travel-size Glowscreen SPF 30, a glow-boosting sunscreen-meets-primer that feels more like make-up than skincare. It's a good entry-level option for those who want sun protection but don't like the feeling of thick lotions. It has a tint, but it's sheer enough to work on a range of skin tones, and it layers easily under makeup. Our head of beauty raves about Supergoop!'s Glowscreen... Zoe says: "I know how important applying SPF daily is, but that doesn't mean I find the experience enjoyable. Before finding Supergoop!, SPFs made my skin look shiny and feel heavy, but this gives the most gorgeous glow and feels incredibly light to wear. It also works perfectly under my foundation. A real year-round hero." There's also a full-size Glow Stick SPF 50 (full size), a solid balm formula ideal for throwing in your bag or topping up SPF on the go. While stick SPFs aren't everyone's first choice, this one glides on well and gives a subtle sheen that works particularly well on cheekbones and collarbones– basically anywhere you'd normally add a touch of highlighter. Rounding off the kit is a 20ml Play Everyday Lotion SPF 50, which is suitable for face and body. It's non-greasy, has a barely-there scent and gives up to 80 minutes of water and sweat resistance. While the tube is on the smaller side, it's handy for travel or topping up during a commute or lunch break. Altogether, the edit is a fairly low-cost way to see which Supergoop! formulas actually work for your routine. The set is exclusive to Boots and only available while stocks last. Judging by how quickly similar edits from brands like Liz Earle and Dr. Jart+ have sold out this summer, it's unlikely to hang around. In other beauty savings news, it's well worth checking out Rodial's outlet section, which regularly offers full-size skincare (including anti-ageing hero formulas) marked down by up to 87%, simply because the box is damaged or unboxed. An anti-ageing ingredient that's long been rumoured to be a favourite of Princess Kate is bee venom, and you'll find plenty of it in Rodial's Bee Venom Moisturiser. Usually priced at £150 for a 50ml tub, you can shop it out of the box for £90, which is a saving of 40%.
