'I put Poundland's £1 milky toner promising 'glass skin' to the test against a £15 K-beauty buy'

Glass skin is a huge skincare trend, so Mirror's shopping writer Grace tested Poundland's £1 milky toner against Beauty of Joseon's £15 K-Beauty rice milk and saw impressive results Milky textures in skincare have become a trend this year, with hydrating serums, toners, and micellar waters popping up everywhere. Having already tried out a few formulas, including BYOMA's Hydrating Milky Toner, £11.99, Curel's Moisture Facial Milk, £20, and Beauty of Joseon's Glow Replenishing Rice Milk, £15.50, I love the glow they give and how much they moisturise the skin, especially when prepping it for make-up. Even Hailey Bieber swears by a drop of her rhode Glazing Milk mixed into foundation for the ultimate dewy look. However, retailing usually between £10 - £30, they can be a pretty pricey addition to your skincare routine, especially if you are opting for higher-end ones like rhode, Tatcha or Curel. Luckily for us, Poundland launched its Body Stories collection at the end of last year, a range focusing on affordable, effective, and everyday skincare essentials. Jumping on the milky formula trend, a Milky Micellar Water is included in the range and retails for only £1. I decided to test out this affordable buy against Beauty of Joseon's Glow Replenishing Rice Milk, which is one of my current favourite products in my routine. They are, of course, slightly different in the sense that Poundland's is a micellar water, so it aims to remove make-up and impurities while providing a glowing base. However, I wanted to see if Poundland's glow could live up to a pricier purchase. Poundland Body Stories Milky Micellar Water review Pros Fragrance free, gentle and great for sensitive skin, great price Cons Not as glowy as other milky products, doesn't remove make-up as easily as other micellar waters Upon first use, I was really impressed with the thick consistency of the micellar water. I prefer a richer formula with these types of products. I was a little conscious that this would leave too much of a glow, one that borders on shiny, but was pleasantly surprised to see this was not the case. Infused with ceramides and watermelon extract, this formula injects a boost of hydration into your skin immediately after use, which you can immediately see on the skin. Plus, being fragrance-free gets some brownie points from me. My skin can be pretty sensitive to added scents or harsh ingredients, but this soothing, moisturising formula didn't cause me any issues. And I was sceptical considering the price is so low. My main criticism was that the results were just not quite as glowy or as much of a long-lasting glow as I would like. Or compared to other milky products, such as Beauty of Joseon's Rice Milk. However, if you prefer a more subtle radiance, this will work well for you. Considering the £1 price tag on this Poundland buy, I would absolutely purchase it again. It may not have provided super long-lasting hydration and radiance compared to other pricier buys, but it worked as a fantastic base under make-up for that 'lit-from-within' look. It's currently not available to shop online but is available in your local Poundland store. Beauty of Joseon Glow Replenishing Rice Milk review Pros Ideal for oily skin, gives that "glass skin" effect, radiant rather than shiny Cons Very watery consistency I'm already an avid user of milky toners, so it was unsurprising that I enjoyed using Beauty of Joseon's one so much. However, what cemented this one in particular as my new go-to is how well it works for oily skin. Other milky toners can sometimes lean on the side of shiny, rather than radiant, but that wasn't the case with this rice milk. Not to mention, I got literally stopped in the street and complimented on my "glass skin", which hasn't happened to me with the other milky toners I've used. It definitely gives that luminous, "I drink three litres of water a day" glow, and because it's infused with rice extract and rice amino acids, it actually feeds your skin with a whole load of vitamins and antioxidants. My only criticism is that I would prefer the consistency were slightly thicker; it is far more watery than other milky toners I've used in the past, and that leads me to pouring out a bit too much product every time I use it. Overall, however, I think it's the perfect glowy but not greasy base for under makeup or those makeup-free days when you want your skin to do all the talking.

‘I saved over £200 by swapping my pricey skincare for this Boots K-beauty brand'

With Korean beauty proving to be a big trend at the moment, I tried out key products from the viral K-beauty brand that's just launched into Boots – and I was super impressed K-beauty isn't a new trend, but we've seen a huge rise in the popularity of Korean skincare this year, with shoppers after the 'glass skin' glow its hydrating formulas are famous for. It's also now easier than ever to buy here in the UK, with a number of top brands recently launching into mainstream retailers – including the brand Beauty of Joseon, now available from Boots, and already proving to be a big hit. Keen to see what all the hype is about, I put aside my tried-and-tested skincare routine and instead reached for some of Beauty of Joseon's bestsellers, most of which retail for around the £15 mark – and I couldn't believe how glowing they made my skin look. Here's what I would re-buy... Korean skincare products are all about hydration and glow via applying multiple light layers, rather than using thick, heavy formulas, and Beauty of Joseon is perfect for this. After cleansing, I started with the Beauty of Joseon Revive Eye Serum : Ginseng + Retinal, £15, which feels cooling and refreshing, and ideal if you're trying to tackle puffiness and dark circles , but if probably unlikely to make many long-term improvements to dryness and fine lines. Next up was a product I'd never really used before, but which I feel made the biggest different to my skin: an essence. Glow Replenishing Rice Milk, £15.50, is designed to be patted into the skin. It's an excellent way to get extra hydration and radiance into the skin without piling on heavy layers, and I saw a noticeable glow from this. Our shopping writer Grace is also a fan, saying how one person actually stopped her in the street to compliment her glowing skin after using this. I also tried a couple of serums from the Beauty of Joseon Hanbang Serum Discovery Kit, £23, which, although all lovely and lightweight, I don't really feel had enough 'anti-ageing' ingredients as my late-30s skin needs (perhaps better suited to younger skin). This was followed by Dynasty Cream, £21, the brand's moisturiser and currently stocked in the Love Island villa, which has a gel-cream texture; I think it would be great for oily to combination skin. If you normally hate the feeling of greasy sunscreens on your face, you should definitely check out Korean formula, which are typically high factor but very lightweight – and Beauty of Joseon's are no exception. I'd probably use Relief Sun : Rice + Probiotics SPF 50+, currently £13.95, in winter, but Relief Sun Aqua-Fresh Rice + B5 SPF 50+, also now £13.95, feels like water, and it ideal in hot weather or if you have oily skin. After using this full K-beauty routine, I couldn't believe how good my skin looked – fresh, juicy and glowing. The products that I think made the biggest difference were the Glow Replenishing Rice Milk and the Relief Sun Aqua-Fresh Rice + B5 SPF 50+ – I'll repurchase them, I'd definitely recommend looking at these ones first if you're thinking of trying the brand. I would also save a huge amount of money if I stuck with this routine. My previous morning regimen consisted of Austinus Bader The Face Mist, £76, Skin Rocks The Eye Cream, £65, Medik8 Liquid Peptides Advanced MP, £79, ALLSKIN|MED Barrier Defence Emulsion, £82, and Ultra Violette Future Fluid Superlight Mineral Skinscreen SPF50+, £38, which together comes to a rather eye-watering £340. These Beauty of Joseon products I used, however, come to around £80 in total – a saving of around £260. ‘I have oily skin and I swear by this £16 gel moisturiser in the warmer months'

If your skin gets oily or shiny in the heat, this £16 gel moisturiser could be a game-changer as it hydrates the skin without clogging or greasiness I have pretty oily skin, and with the muggy, hot weather we've been having the past couple of days, my skin has been bordering on sweaty-looking rather than dewy and radiant (which is what I'm usually going for). That means it's time to get out the moisturiser I swear by when the temperature rises. The moisturiser in question is Facetheory's Supergel Oil-Free Moisturiser, priced at an affordable £16 for 50ml. Designed specifically for combination and blemish-prone skin, its jelly texture is oil-free, meaning it hydrates without clogging pores or leaving behind that dreaded shine Packed full of ingredients that help keep oil at bay and prevent acne from occurring, it's ideal under makeup or worn solo, especially during hot, humid days when your skin needs lightweight hydration and extra skincare benefits. I love layering under a milky toner like Beauty of Joseon's Glow Replenishing Rice Milk or BYOMA's Hydrating Milky Toner when I want that extra hydration. The ingredients that make Facehtheory's moisturiser so great include salicylic acid, which acts as a chemical exfoliant that clears out clogged pores, helps control excess oil production and reduces possible inflammation. A lifesaver in the muggy English heat that can lead to sweaty breakouts. The next star ingredient is niacinamide, which can help improve the skin's barrier function, regulate oil production, and generally improve the skin's health. Lastly, the formula features hyaluronic acid, which helps deliver a burst of moisture your skin really needs, even in the summertime, without the heaviness of thick cream or butter. The result is smooth, healthy skin that feels fresh and looks matte all day with no stickiness or greasiness in sight. And it's a product that swiftly became my everyday go-to in the summertime. My only criticism of this product is its packaging. The foil squeeze tube can be hard to get product out of when you get towards the end, which can result in a loss of moisturiser. However, I can live with the ever-so-slightly annoying packaging, considering the moisturiser works so well on my oily skin.

'I tried Erborian's new milky serum, it gave me plumper, glowier skin overnight'

Erborian's new milky serum promises glass-like skin overnight, and after just one use, I saw glow, hydration, and a noticeably plumper complexion Milky toners are a bit of a buzzword right now in the beauty world, but in my opinion, the ones I've tried actually live up to their hype. From BYOMA's Hydrating Milky Toner, £11.99, to Curel's Moisture Facial Milk and Beauty of Joseon's Glow Replenishing Rice Milk, I've trialled my fair share. And now K-Beauty brand Erborian has just launched its new Skin-Therapy Milky Serum. A biphase milky texture thats ideal for us who have normal to oily skin. I was intrigued by this as its a serum rather than a toner, and on the fact that it promises to target seven areas of the skin with just one tiny bottle. I'm not a massive fan of layering hundreds of different products on my face, so having a one-and-done product really appeals to me. Packed full with 17 powerhouse ingredients, including glow-giving Yuzu, soothing Centella Asiatica, and Ginseng, this milky serum is ideal for those with oiler skin or those who prefer a barely-there feel. Plus, it's got skin-plumping Hyaluronic Acid and 10% PHA to gently exfoliate, clear pores and smooth texture, along with Allantoin to calm any redness. Erborian Skin-Therapy Milky Serum review I'm already a huge fan of Erborian. The CC Red Correct with Centella Asiatica is my current go-to base product and one of my favourite ever skin tints. While the Super BB Concealer also has a spot in my everyday make-up bag. So I was very excited to test out this new launch. Firstly, I love the packaging, the glass bottle makes the serum feel really premium and the pipette makes the product so easy to use (makes sure to shake well before use as its a biphase texture). Secondly, I really enjoy the consistency, it feels oiler than serums I've tried in the past, but this makes the product glide so smoothly onto the skin and leaves the skin with that immediate radiance. The serum claims to have visible results after the first night, and I was pretty skeptical about this as I find a lot of brands claim that without actually having any instant results. But after using this serum for one night, I found that my skin felt hydrated, plumper and looked visibly glowy (in a trendy glass skin way, not a sweaty way). My sister even commented that my skin looked so bright and awake on our 7am morning walk. Because of the 10% PHA content, Erborian recommend using this as a night-time-only treatment, ideally on its own (though a moisturiser on top is fine). As I mentined above, that's ideal for me, I don't love layering lots of products, especially when I'm short on time before bed. I've struggled to find anything wrong with this product so far, I do have oilier skin so this product works perfectly for my skin your skin is on the drier side though, you might find it not quite hydrating enough. In that case, I'd suggest trying the Skin Therapy Oil Serum from the same range. It has a richer, oil-based texture that's better suited for dry or very dry skin. It is on the pricier side at £45, but considering how many areas it targets and the fact it eliminates using lots of other serums or toners, I think the price is justified.

'This milky toner promises glass skin – and people actually noticed'

Mirror's shopping writer Grace has tried her fair share of milky toners, but Beauty of Joseon's one has taken the top spot after she received compliments from strangers on her glowy skin Milky toners have become a bit of a skincare trend this year, and I'm personally a huge fan of them. Having already tried out a few formulas, including BYOMA's Hydrating Milky Toner, £11.99, and Curel's Moisture Facial Milk, £20, I love the glow they give and how much they hydrate the skin, ready for make-up. Even Hailey Bieber swears by a drop of her rhode Glazing Milk mixed into foundation for the ultimate lit-from-within look. So when I discovered the internet's trendiest K-Beauty skincare brand, Beauty of Joseon's Glow Replenishing Rice Milk, I couldn't wait to try it out. This milky toner is packed full of skin-loving ingredients that hydrate, calm, and nourish in one go. It has a dual-layer formula, which involves a light, essence-like liquid combined with a powdery base that not only provides serious moisture but also helps keep oil and shine in check. This is especially a lifesaver if, like me, you suffer from oily skin and need to keep it at bay during the summer months without drying your skin out. Beauty of Joseon Glow Replenishing Rice Milk review As I previously mentioned, I'm already an avid user of milky toners, so it was unsurprising that I enjoyed using Beauty of Joseon's one so much.
