Serving West Yorkshire Police officer reported missing after vanishing from his home is found dead at nature reserve
PC Charlie Mitchell, of West Yorkshire Police, was off duty when he was reported missing from home in Leeds on Saturday evening.
There had been concerns over the welfare of the 26-year-old, who was a patrol officer based in Halifax.
Officers tragically found his body at 5.30pm yesterday while carrying out a search of St Aidan's Nature Reserve.
Police say there are no suspicious circumstances and they have notified the Coroner's office.
Mr Mitchell's family has also been informed and the force say they are supporting them as well as his devastated colleagues.
Assistant Chief Constable Robert McCoubrey described Mr Mitchell's death as 'absolutely tragic' and a 'terrible shock'.
He said: 'Charlie's death in these circumstances is absolutely tragic, and we offer our sincere condolences to his family and will be continuing to give them all the support we can at this very difficult time.
'His death has also come as a terrible shock to his colleagues in Calderdale District and the wider West Yorkshire Police family and we will be making sure that all necessary support is in place for everyone who worked with him or knew him.'
Paying tribute to Mr Mitchell on social media, one person wrote: 'The nicest guy you could ever meet, I am in utter shock. Thoughts are with his family and all the policing community at this sad, sad time.'

A Reform UK council leader risks being found in contempt of court after making a number of statements about the alleged rape of a 12-year-old girl during a press conference in London. The Reform UK leader said that he 'absolutely' believes that information should be made available by police forces. In a statement, Warwickshire Police said that once someone is charged with an offence, they follow national guidance, which 'does not include sharing ethnicity or immigration status'. Mr Finch told Monday's press conference that he was 'begging' for information about the two to be released in the wake of the charges. He said he had emailed the council's chief executive to say that he wished to speak to the police force and urge them to release information about the men's immigration status. Mr Finch also said he had later written a letter to home secretary Yvette Cooper and the chief constable of Warwickshire Police calling for the immediate release of the immigration status of the two. Mr Finch also claimed that Reform UK needs to 'change things' and is 'the last line of defence against the blob, the cover-ups'.

Children's nurse admits supplying cocaine and ecstasy in Glasgow
