Ludhiana: 4th member of train theft gang arrested, iPhone recovered
The fourth member identified as Balbir Singh (52) of the gang surrendered at the Government Railway Police (GRP) station on June 12 after the police nabbed the other three members and increased pressure on him by raiding his home in Haryana's Jind district.
'He surrendered after we pressured him through our raids. He informed us about the phone and we recovered it from his village, Lochab in Jind,' said inspector Palwinder Singh, incharge GRP Ludhiana.
On June 7 the GRP had arrested three members in the theft case, where a family was robbed of gold jewellery worth ₹23 lakh and a brand-new iPhone while returning from a wedding on May 30.
The complaint was filed by Arpana, a resident of Ludhiana. She informed police that her family, including her son and newly-wed daughter-in-law, had boarded a train from their village in Bihar to Ludhiana after attending a wedding. During the journey, unknown miscreants stole a bag containing gold jewellery and an Iphone.
The GRP on June 11 had recovered gold worth ₹8 lakh after interrogation of the three members arrested earlier.
Inspector Palwinder said that Balbir has revealed that the rest of the gold was with a gold smith, who is a contact of one of the thieves arrested earlier. 'Those three are now in judicial custody. We will seek their remand and try to recover the remaining gold as well,' added the Inspector.

The unruly passenger was later handed over to the GRP for legal action under sections related to assault, damage to govt property, and obstruction of duty. Meerut: Drunk army man drives car on platform to help kin board train
A serving army jawan allegedly drove his car onto the platform at Meerut Cantt railway station on Friday evening and raced it alongside a moving train to help his relatives board. The incident triggered panic among passengers and raised questions over station security. 20-minute chaos at Meerut Cantt railway station as car races along train (Sourced) According to officials, the accused, Sandeep Dhaka from Baghpat, currently posted in Delhi, was allegedly intoxicated when he entered the platform in a car bearing a Jharkhand registration and marked 'Fauji' on its windshield. Eyewitnesses said the vehicle sped dangerously close to the Naucharndi Express as it was departing, forcing passengers to run for safety. 'He drove very fast, almost parallel to the train. People were shouting and trying to get away,' Rajveer Singh, a witness, said. GRP inspector Vinod Kumar said Sandeep claimed he was trying to help his relatives board the train as they needed to reach Delhi urgently due to a medical emergency in the family. The family had missed the 'Yoga Express' and were returning home when they spotted the approaching 'Nauchandi Express'. In an attempt to help them board the general coach at the front, Sandeep drove the vehicle through the station premises and onto the platform. The car remained on the platform for nearly 20 minutes before RPF personnel and railway staff intercepted and detained the driver. RPF inspector Dharmveer Singh confirmed that Sandeep was heavily drunk at the time of arrest. 'He was taken into custody and will be produced before the court on Saturday. The military police have also initiated a parallel inquiry,' he said. Police said the FIR has been registered under sections 145(B), 147, 154, and 159 of the Railways Act and section 34 of the Police Act. A medical examination confirmed the accused was driving in an inebriated condition. The GRP inspector added that the process for cancellation of the accused man's driving licence has also been initiated. Authorities are now investigating how the vehicle breached platform security.

Chhattisgarh court grants bail to two Kerala nuns in human trafficking-conversion case
NEW DELHI: A special court in Bilaspur on Saturday granted bail to two Catholic nuns from Kerala who were arrested last week at Durg Railway Station on charges of human trafficking and forced religious conversion. Principal District and Sessions Judge (NIA court) Sirajuddin Qureshi had reserved the order on their bail pleas after a hearing on Friday. The court has granted conditional bail to the trio, defence lawyer Amrito Das said. Preethi Merry and Vandana Francis were taken into custody by Government Railway Police (GRP) on 25 July, following a complaint. The complaint alleged that the nuns were attempting to traffic and convert three tribal women from Chhattisgarh's Narayanpur district under the guise of offering them employment. Sessions court refused to hear plea Earlier this week, a sessions court in Durg dismissed their bail petitions, stating it had no jurisdiction under Section 143 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to human trafficking.
