It was a more one-sided affair in the later Group B kick-off as Spain made a big statement as pre-tournament favourites by thrashing Portugal 5-0. The world champions ended a run of eight games without a clean sheet with their triumph and notched their biggest EUROs win to date.

Group C begins with Denmark vs Sweden and some star players are set to feature, including Pernille Harder and Stina Blackstenius. Sweden are one of the biggest European teams historically and head to Switzerland in terrific form, having not lost a game since July 2024.
Germany take on EURO debutants Poland in the second Group C encounter. Christian Wück's side are among the favourites at EURO 2025 after reaching the final in 2022, eventually losing 2-1 against England after extra-time. Poland will make their maiden appearance at the tournament and all eyes will be on Barcelona sharpshooter Ewa Pajor.

It's finally time for a wider audience to see and appreciate the talent of Germany forward Selina Cerci. Bundesliga top scorer, goal every 97 minutes despite playing for a Hoffenheim side who only managed to finish sixth. Five goals in seven appearances for Germany since this time last year.
Cerci emerged as a potential future superstar as a teenager and was prolific at 21 but injuries set her back - she made just nine league starts in the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons - so, now aged 25, this is finally her first international tournament.

She may not start but she will be looking to make an impact no matter what role she plays.

There will be plenty of intrigue around Poland's major tournament debut. The Eagles had a qualification campaign of two halves, losing all six games in the qualifying group stages before winning four play-off matches.
That improved form in the play-offs kick-started a huge upturn in form as Poland are unbeaten in 11 consecutive matches, winning 10. However, taking on European giants Germany will be a major test for Nina Patalon's outfit in Group C.

Key to the Eagles' hopes at the Women's EUROs will be Ewa Pajor. The Barcelona striker scored an incredible 25 LaLiga goals in just 22 starts last season and has four goals in her last four internationals.

Bernardo Silva and Ruben Dias issue words in final respects to Liverpool's Diogo Jota in Gondomar
Manchester City's Bernardo Silva and Ruben Dias have issued their final respects to the late Diogo Jota in his hometown of Gondomar in Portugal this weekend. The Liverpool forward died in a car crash last week aged 28, alongside his brother and fellow professional footballer Andre Silva (25) in the accident, which took place in the Spanish province of Zamora. Advertisement The Guardia Civil told BBC Sport that the brothers had died around 00:30 local time on Thursday, after their Lamborghini left the road following a tyre blowout while overtaking another vehicle and then catching fire. Diogo Jota had only recently married his long-term partner Rute Cardoso, with whom he had three children, with their ceremony taking place just 11 days before the road traffic accident in Spain. Issuing a statement on the accident and death of their attacking star, Liverpool said they 'are devastated' at the loss, while his former club Wolves said in their own statement, 'We are heartbroken'. Over the course of Friday and Saturday, Manchester City's Ruben Dias and Bernardo Silva joined family and friends in the town of Gondomar in Portugal to pay their final respects to Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva. Advertisement Issuing a short interview this weekend, Bernardo Silva said of his compatriot, 'I can't even imagine the pain of the family, of Rute [Diogo Jota's wife], the children, the parents. Allan Saint-Maximin accuses Mourinho's Fenerbahce side of giving him 'doping products'
Former Newcastle United attacker Allan Saint-Maximin has made a startling allegation about his spell at Fenerbahce with former Roma boss Jose Mourinho. Speaking on the Zack Nani Podcast, Saint-Maximin claimed Fenerbahce tried to pressure him into breaking anti-doping rules. The winger, who joined the club on loan last season from Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli, made the allegation while explaining why the team failed to win the league title. Sometimes you find yourself in situations that go beyond football.' Upon witnessing the chaos his comments caused, Saint-Maximin added more in a post on X.
