Lok Sabha adjourned till 2 PM amid opposition protests
This is the second consecutive day in the Monsoon session of Parliament when the House saw Opposition members trooping to the Well, raising slogans and showing placards with their demand for discussion on Operation Sindoor.
When the House met at 12 noon, Jagdambika Pal, who was chairing the House proceedings, said the government is ready to discuss any issue that the opposition wants and asked the members to list out the topics on which they want discussion at the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting later in the day.
Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghwal said, 'Government is ready to discuss any issue which the Speaker allows under the Rule. I appeal to you to go back to your seats".
Pal asked opposition members not to show placards and instead give in writing their demands at the Committee meeting.
As ruckus continued, Pal adjourned proceedings till 2 PM.
Earlier, when the House met at 11 am, opposition MPs, including Congress, were on their feet, demanding discussion on Operation Sindoor.
Speaker Om Birla intervened and told the opposition MPs that sloganeering and showing placards are not allowed inside the House. He later adjourned the House till 12 noon.
The House could not function on the first day of the session on Monday due to repeated adjournments following opposition protests over the demand of discussion on Operation Sindoor.
Under Operation Sindoor, armed forces attacked Pakistani terror sites and defence installations for three days beginning May 7 following the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22 in which 26 people were killed. PTI JD JD DV DV

During his two-day official visit to the United Kingdom, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to engage in wide-ranging discussions with his British counterpart, Prime Minister Keir Starmer, covering the full spectrum of the India-UK bilateral relationship, as well as pressing regional and global issues, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). The India-UK partnership, once rooted in historical ties, has evolved into a robust, multi-dimensional and mutually beneficial relationship. The elevation of this partnership to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2021 marked a significant turning point. Over the past year, PM Modi and PM Starmer have met twice in person, once on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Brazil (November 2024) and again at the G7 Summit in June 2025, in addition to holding several telephonic conversations. One of the clearest indicators of the strength of bilateral relations is the presence of five Ministerial-level Institutional Mechanisms spanning strategic affairs, economy & finance, trade, energy, and science & technology. Recent high-level dialogues have included the Foreign Office Consultation, Defence Consultation Group, and the 2+2 Foreign and Defence Dialogue. On the economic front, bilateral trade reached a record USD 55 billion in 2024, representing a 10% increase over 2023. A major milestone in the relationship was the announcement of the India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA) on May 6, 2025, by both Prime Ministers. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Lok Sabha stays in pause mode, now over roll revision protest
Opposition protests over the Special Incentive Revision (SIR) of Bihar's electoral rolls disrupted the Lok Sabha for the second consecutive day on Wednesday, resulting in three forced adjournments. In the din of Opposition sloganeering, sports minister Mansukh Madaviya introduced the National Sports Governance Bill, 2025, which, among other things, proposes an umbrella rule for various sports governing bodies, and the Anti-doping (Amendment) Bill, providing greater operational independence to the anti-doping agency. As soon as the House commenced, the INDIA bloc MPs started protesting against SIR, indulged in sloganeering and trooped to the well of the House. As many MPs were holding placards and some SP members were waving black shawls, Speaker Om Birla warned of action for such conduct before he adjourned the House till noon. Similar protests forced two more adjournments, after noon and at 2 pm. Speaking to media persons, leader of Opposition, Rahul Gandhi , said the SIR was a new ploy by the ECI to delete voters from the list and he once again alleged the election was being stolen in India. "They (EC) have done cheating in Maharashtra (assembly elections). We asked the ECI to show the voters' list, but they refused. We asked them to show videography, but they changed the rules of videography. Around 1 crore new voters were added in Maharashtra. In Karnataka, we have caught a huge theft. I will show it to the Election Commission in black and white how the theft is done. They have understood that we are aware of their game now. Now, what they are doing is they have deleted the voters, and a new voters' list will be brought. Elections are being stolen in India," he said.
