Aditi Rao Hydari said that she received immense love and appreciation for her role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Heeramandi, but that hasn't translated into new opportunities.
Bollywood actress Aditi Rao Hydari was widely praised for her performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's period drama series Heeramandi, which also starred Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha and others. Despite the success of the show, Aditi revealed that she is still waiting to sign a new film or show. In a recent chat with Lilly Singh, she highlighted the persistent challenges women face in the entertainment industry. She said that while she received immense love and appreciation for her role, the acclaim has not translated into new work opportunities.
Aditi Rao Hydari talked about Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Heeramandi and its success, in a chat with Lilly Singh. Lilly shared her observation that when stories centred on women succeed, they are often treated as exceptions rather than the norm. Aditi completely agreed with that, and said, 'It is, yes. You are absolutely correct." She further went on to point out that despite the show's success, she is yet to sign a new film or project. 'For example, after Heeramandi, it was wonderful. I got so much love, so much appreciation. So much everything. Have I signed my next show/film? No. I haven't. I'm still waiting." She added, 'I got a lot from it. But yeah, I am still waiting."
When Lilly asked Aditi if she believes it will be easier to create shows like Heeramandi again with that kind of budget, now that it's a success, Aditi replied honestly: 'No, I don't think so. I hope so. I hope there will be a change." She said that she hopes the power of storytelling takes center stage, regardless of the gender focus. She said that women are equal participants in life, and thus deserve equal space in stories and on screen.
'Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar', created and directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, features an ensemble cast including Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Sharmin Segal, and Taha Shah Badussha. It premiered on Netflix on 1st May, 2024.
Meanwhile, Aditi Rao Hydari will next be seen in Imtiaz Ali's series 'O Saathi Re' alongside Avinash Tiwary. She also has 'Parivarik ManuRanjan', a family entertainer, in the pipeline. The film also stars Pankaj Tripathi.
