Introduction to Bilt Rent Day
Bilt Rewards is a unique program that lets you earn points for paying rent with a credit card without oppressive service charges (up to 100,000 points on rent in a calendar year).
Overview of Bilt Rent Day
It's a revolutionary concept: Rent is by far the largest monthly expense for most Americans. Rewards earned through Bilt can be used to offset rent or a future mortgage, or converted into valuable airline miles and hotel points to help you knock off bucket-list travel that might otherwise be unattainable.
The Bilt app integrates with points and miles award tracking service Point.me to make booking travel with points as easy as possible.
What Is Bilt Rent Day?
Bilt Rent Day is an ongoing promotion that occurs on the first day of each month, with different activities that allow you to earn bonus points, get exclusive transfer bonuses to valuable airline and hotel partners, receive big discounts on cruises, and more.
Bilt Rent Day Rewards Limit

Double Bilt points on non-rent purchases (June 1 only)
On the first day of each month, the Bilt Mastercard® (rates and fees) earns twice its normal rate for non-rent purchases, up to 1,000 bonus points. Here's what you'll earn:
6 points per dollar on dining (regularly 3 points per dollar) — and up to 11 points per dollar when using the Bilt Dining feature
4 points per dollar on travel (regularly 2 points per dollar)
2 points per dollar on all other purchases (regularly 1 point per dollar)
Rent payments do not double, remaining at 1 point per dollar with the Bilt Mastercard® (up to 100,000 points in a calendar year).
When using Bilt Dining, you'll earn 5 bonus points per dollar at select restaurants. This stacks with the 3 points per dollar you'll normally earn when using the Bilt Mastercard® for dining. During Rent Day, this 5-point bonus will not be additionally bonused.
One important note: You must use your Bilt Mastercard® at least five times per statement period to be eligible to earn points.
Complimentary SoulCycle rides and Barry's fitness classes (for June 1, book beginning May 28)
Bilt offers complimentary rides to a select number of Bilt members per class who book directly in the Bilt App in 50+ SoulCycle locations nationwide.

All complimentary fitness sessions are now final sale, with no refunds or cancellations once booked.
Play the Rent Free game for a chance to have your rent paid (between May 27 and June 1)
Bilt offers a Family Feud-style game called Rent Free, with a different celebrity guest each month. Participants guess their best answers to questions Bilt presents to a panel of 1,000 members each month, trying to identify the most popular answers.
Rent Free has new and improved rules for winning points and free rent (up to $2,500). Game show participants will be scored on their guesses, calculated from three factors:
Correctly pick a top-three answer
Correctly rank that answer on the board (double points)
Correctly choosing the same answer as the celebrity guest of the month (triple points)
The top-scoring 10 Rent Free participants will earn a free month of rent, up to $2,500 apiece. If two top participants tie with the exact same score, the win will go to the Bilt Member who completed the game first. The next top-scoring 500 participants will earn bonus Bilt Points.
Bilt members can play Rent Free from May 27 until 3 p.m. ET on June 1.
After 4 p.m. on Bilt Rent Day, you can return to the Bilt app to watch the full episode and see your score. The top 10 scoring players will be this month's rent winners, and the next top scoring 1,000 members will nab some extra Bilt Points.
How Bilt Rent Day works
Bilt Rewards aims to make paying rent, which typically falls on the first day of each month just a little bit more fun.
Bilt Rent Day falls on the first of every month, and Bilt members who fire up the Bilt Rewards app can book complimentary SoulCycle classes, earn extra points by playing trivia games, and participate in various promotions with exciting rewards such as a free month's worth of rent.
Earning rewards on rent payments
Bilt Rent Day is part of the Bilt Mastercard® incentives program, which helps renters earn rewards on rent payments. Most credit cards charge a fee for paying rent by credit card, and many landlords refuse to accept rent payments by card because of the high fees associated with processing credit card transactions.
The Bilt Mastercard® absorbs those fees, and throws in generous rewards to boot: Renters earn 1 point on rent payments without the transaction fee (up to 100,000 points each calendar year), 3 points on dining, 2 points on travel, and 1 point on other purchases (use the card 5 times each statement period to earn points).
Special promotions and bonus points
Bilt Mastercard® cardholders regularly get opportunities to earn bonus points. Cardholders earn 3 points per dollar on dining and 2 points on travel at all times, plus 1 point on everything else when you use the card five times during a statement period.
On Bilt Rent Day, all rewards are doubled, except on rent payments, up to 1,000 points: Restaurant dining now earns 6 points per dollar, travel earns 4 points per dollar, and regular spending outside of rent earns 2 points per dollar.
Bilt Dining
The Bilt Dining program allows everyone — even non-Bilt card members — to earn bonus points on eating out. Participating restaurants in dozens of cities offer bonus points for every dollar spent at that location.
Anyone who links a credit card to the Bilt Rewards app can earn these bonus points — this way, you can "double-dip" rewards if you prefer to pay for restaurant spend on a card that earns generous rewards on dining.
Participating in Bilt Rent Day
You can participate in Bilt Rent Day even if you don't pay rent. Here's how:
Eligibility and signup process
You'll need a Bilt Rewards account to participate in Bilt Rent Day activities. Sign up at Bilt Rewards, and link your Bilt Mastercard® to the account if you have one. Then download the Bilt Rewards app onto your mobile device to participate.
Every month, bonus activities will be announced a few days ahead of time, so keep an eye out for free fitness class sign-ups or other time-sensitive activities. Then on the first of the month, log back in to look for restaurants offering elevated dining rewards, play games to earn extra Bilt points, and more.
Making rent payments through Bilt
Rent payments also take place within the Bilt Rewards app. Click on the "pay rent" button toward the bottom of the app, and follow the instructions on the screen. There are two options: "Pay rent online" or "pay by check."
It's easiest to pay rent via the Bilt Mastercard®, since it doesn't charge transaction fees.
Pay rent online
If your building allows online rent payments, use the virtual routing number and account number provided within the app to send your transaction just like you would set up an online draft through your bank account.
Pay by check
If your landlord doesn't allow online payments, you can request a rent check via the Bilt app. Complete the setup process by sharing your landlord's contact and payment information, and your rent check will automatically be disbursed on your behalf each month. You may need to finesse the timing of your payments to ensure that your rent checks arrive on the required date each month to avoid late fees.

Benefits beyond rent payments

Oreo-maker Mondelez CEO says Americans are buying fewer snacks: 'There's a lot of consumer anxiety'

Americans are getting more cautious about spending on even small treats like Oreo cookies. Mondelez, the company that makes Oreos and Chips Ahoy, said that revenue and sales volumes in the US fell during the company's second quarter. The continued threat of tariffs and the state of the economy were major reasons shoppers cut back, CEO Dirk Van de Put said. "There's a lot of consumer anxiety," Van de Put said on a call after the company reported results Tuesday. Shoppers face an "uncertain outlook as it relates to their personal finances, job expectations, inflation, so they tend to focus more on essential items," he said. Many customers are buying smaller packs of cookies that cost more per unit than bigger family-sized packages, Van de Put said. That's leading to a decline in the volume of snacks sold in the US. Mondelez's North American sales fell 3.5% year over year during the second quarter. Consumers in the US have some reasons to watch their spending. Companies from Conagra to Walmart have said they plan to pass along some of the costs of the Trump administration's planned tariffs to customers, which could lead to higher prices at stores. Tariffs also may have led to fewer Mondelez products on shelves at retailers, Van de Put said on Tuesday's call. He said that while some stores stocked up on items that were set to be hit with tariffs over the last few months, they sought to offset those costs by holding off on purchases of non-tariffed goods such as snacks. "Tariffs were coming," Van de Put said. "They probably wanted to import more from the countries that were going to be affected." Some shoppers are also still feeling the pressure from years of high post-pandemic inflation. Many food makers raised snack prices as input costs rose, but have seen consumers pull back their spending in the last year or so. "There's an overall slowdown in food consumption and also in snacking," Van de Put said. said. Other evidence suggests that consumers are still willing to spend on food in certain settings. Recent research by Bank of America suggests that many diners are still spending on meals at restaurants — even as they tell pollsters that they are cutting back on eating out to save money.

And, we need to really examine referral fees as well," he posted."The last thing we need is to have algorithms designed to maximize revenue driving LLM (large language model) output and interactions. They are already recommending brands and we don't know if they are getting paid for it. We need to have learned our lessons from algos in social media," he added. Not every internet personality agreed with Cuban. Jordi Hayes, an online talk show host, took issue with the billionaire. "Mark Cuban is promoting a policy that would almost certainly make the best AI inaccessible for low-income Americans and lead to greater wealth inequality over time," Hayes posted on X, the former Twitter. Most of the comments responding to Hayes were surprisingly reasonable by internet standards. "Just subsidize the free tier by charging everyone a tad bit extra like they are now. Mark's concern is advertisers trying to control output in any way, which will eventually lead to what we have now with pharma and their control of content," Bob posted. "There's also the fact that ads based content (including LLMs) makes it more accessible for a larger part of the internet who can't pay subscription fees for everything," Lucas Dickey added. Kris Richens had perhaps the most measured response. "When AI is clearly identified, it's a tool, like any other ad platform. But as soon as it blurs the line with authentic human interaction, it enters a grey area that feels less like marketing and more like digital puppetry. We need to uphold AI transparency to build digital trust, not erode it," he wrote. While Cuban called out a White House official, the debate around his comment was surprisingly non-partisan. The billionaire did make it clear that he believed free AI isn't going anywhere, although it will change. "My guess is that the free version will stay free for a while, then most likely it will be bundled with phone and broadband carriers, and phone manufacturers. There is a winner take all attitude among the biggest models, so they will try to get their basic versions everywhere they can, on every device they can and upsell to subscriptions," he posted. Cuban did double down on the idea of AI ads needing full transparency. "Because AI will be part of everything we do, we will want to trust that its responses are not biased towards maximizing revenue. Let's let political candidates spend money to weight responses about their race in their favor? Maybe put out to bid which candidate the model will favor? Or put out to bid the weights for training data as it relates to a product or service. You pay us enough and we will train on your data to the exclusion or minimization of your competitors," he shared. Some posts did take issue with Cuban's use of the word "illegal" when it comes to AI ads. "People's intuitions about banning things go into overdrive when AI is involved. They demand far stricter tradeoffs (safety over consumer value, transparency over efficiency) than they'd apply elsewhere, yet rarely explain why AI is so vastly different as to justify this," wrote Tamay Besiroglu. Energy Bills Rising Faster Than Rent and Groceries

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Electricity costs are rising faster other budgetary essentials, and experts believe political and technological developments will only accelerate this trend in the future. According to analysis of government figures by data tech company and energy savings platform Arbor, average household electricity costs have risen from around 9 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh) in 2004 to 19 cents as of June, a 111-percent increase that has outpaced both rent and groceries, as well as broader currency inflation over this period. Why It Matters Americans continue to grapple with high costs in 2025. Despite inflation cooling its 2022 peak of over 9 percent, it is still ticking above the Federal Reserve's target 2-percent rate. Rising energy costs threaten to further strain households budgets, and are being driven by a variety of factors, including the increased use of the U.S. grid to power data centers, and growing uncertainty as to how America will meet nationwide energy demand. What To Know According to Arbor, monthly electricity costs have risen 34 percent since 2020, compared to 25 percent for groceries, based on the Labor Department's "food at home" index. The firm dubbed electricity the "slow, silent inflation bomb ticking away in your monthly bill," and noted that, unlike food, customers are largely unable to "swap brands" to reduce their costs. It largely attributed this change, particularly the recent increases, to rising energy demands and the impacts on the U.S. energy grid. Prices have been driven this summer by increased fuel costs, as well as the growing energy demand of nationwide data centers. The latter are expected to account for an increasing share of America's energy needs—and bills—over the coming years. Transmission lines in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area on July 10, 2025, in Page, Arizona. Transmission lines in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area on July 10, 2025, in Page, Arizona.A December report from the Department of Energy found that data centers consumed around 4 percent of total U.S. electricity in 2023, and predicted that this figure would rise to between 7 and 12 percent by 2028. More recent analysis by the International Energy Agency found that data centers are on track to account for nearly half the growth in energy demand by 2030, while BloombergNEF forecasts data-center energy demand doubling to 78 gigawatts by 2035. America's ability to meet this growing demand may also be stymied by recent political developments. Experts told Newsweek that clean energy grant programs revised or rescinded under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) could jeopardize a significant number of renewables projects across the country. Energy Innovation, a California-based climate policy think tank, estimates that this will result in a 10 to 18 percent increase in energy bills for consumers by 2035. In response to these concerns, the White House told Newsweek that the administration had taken "decisive steps to unleash American energy and drive oil and gas production to reduce the cost of energy," and that the OBBBA would "turbocharge" domestic oil production. What People Are Saying Arbor researchers wrote in their report: "Unlike food, you can't swap brands. You can't skip a meal's worth of electrons. Electricity is essential. And now, it's expensive." "We're heading toward a future where everything runs on electricity, and that's not a bad thing. Electricity is magic—we should be able to use it," they added. "But it only works if families can afford to plug in. If it's affordable, and not wasteful." Former U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer M. Granholm wrote in December that the U.S. had "seen an incredible investment in artificial intelligence and other breakthrough technologies over the last decade and a half, and this industrial renaissance has created greater demand on our domestic energy supply."
