Denise Welch takes a pop at son Matty Healy's ex Taylor Swift

Metro3 days ago
Denise Welch, the mother of The 1975 frontman Matty Healy, took a shocking dig at his ex Taylor Swift.
During her appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on Thursday, the British actress and TV personality earned gasps from the audience after a cheeky comment about the pop star.
The Loose Women presenter was finally making her Bravo debut after a previous on-air promise from Cohen, before what started as a light-hearted interview took a more pointed turn when the conversation shifted to Swift's 2024 album The Tortured Poets Department.
The album is widely believed to contain several songs inspired by Healy, with whom Swift had a brief but high-profile relationship the previous year.
When Cohen asked Welch how she felt about the record, her answer earned a huge reaction.
'Obviously, on pain of death can I talk about that episode,' she said, before adding with a laugh, 'but being her mother-in-law is a role that I am glad that I lost.'
As the crowd reacted, Welch quickly tried to soften the moment: 'Not that I have anything against her at all,' she insisted, 'It was just—it was tricky.'
The 67-year-old presenter continued: 'Listen, you're not allowed to say anything, and then she writes a whole album about it.'
Still, she emphasised that her son had taken the public attention in stride, saying Healy handled the aftermath 'all in completely good grace.'
She also confirmed that Healy is now engaged to model and singer Gabbriette Bechtel, describing her as 'gorgeous' and adding, 'He's very happy with his amazing fiancée… so we've moved on.'
Swift and Healy's relationship was short but intensely scrutinised. After reconnecting in early 2023, the pair confirmed their romance in May, just weeks after Swift's split from longtime boyfriend Joe Alwyn. https://www.instagram.com/p/C1X1RJcLB_S/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link
Healy was spotted at several of her Eras Tour stops and seen entering recording studios with her, prompting speculation about musical collaborations. But by June, the relationship had ended.
Swift released The Tortured Poets Department in April 2024, and while she hasn't confirmed the identity of the songs' subjects, fans widely interpreted tracks like The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived and I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can) as reflections on her time with Healy. More Trending
Welch's comments are among the most direct public acknowledgments from someone close to Healy about the strain of being involved with a global superstar who mines her personal life for creative material.
For now, both parties appear to have moved on.
Swift is now in a high-profile relationship with NFL star Travis Kelce, with marriage rumours routinely swirling around the pair. Healy, for his part, is engaged and keeping his music and personal life comparatively low-key.
But as Welch's appearance reminded viewers, even when the world forgives and forgets, a mother remembers.

Vanessa Kirby confirms huge Fantastic Four secret everyone is talking about

Warning: Spoilers ahead for The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Vanessa Kirby has confirmed the truth behind that Fantastic Four mid-credits sequence. The British actress, 37, plays Sue Storm—or the Invisible Woman, to those in the know—in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Sue makes up one quarter of Marvel's First Family, appearing alongside husband Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal), hotheaded brother Johnny Storm (Joseph Quinn) and human rock face The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) as the titular Fantastic Four. With the Fantastic Four's Marvel Cinematic Universe debut out now, audiences have been flocking in droves to witness their arrival. The team may have their hands full battling cosmic world-eater Galactus and his herald, the Silver Surfer (Julia Garner), but there'll be an even bigger villain on fans' minds once the end credits finish rolling. With the cat out of the bag, Kirby has clarified what Doctor Doom's cameo at the end of the film means… and confirmed that star Robert Downey Jr. is already very much back. In the first of two post-credits sequences, Sue is shocked to find a menacing hooded figure looming over her young son, Franklin. Fans will already know this to be the Fantastic Four's longtime nemesis, Doctor Doom, who will be played by Robert Downey Jr. in the upcoming sequel, Avengers: Doomsday. Although the villain's face is obscured, Kirby has revealed that it was indeed Downey Jr. behind that hood. 'Yeah! Robert's never not been on set,' she told Variety when asked whetherRDJ was present for the shoot. She continued: 'He's always there. He is our leader. We call him our Godfather. He's looked after us. This sequence was filmed by the Russo Brothers as part of their work on Avengers: Doomsday and shot while Kirby was pregnant in real life. 'It's such a joy working with the Russos and him, because they've had such deep collaboration for so long,' she revealed. 'And it's been amazing being pregnant and working on Avengers. I felt so inspired and so relieved that I've been so taken care of. It's been a really beautiful journey. Robert is just doing incredible work. I'm so excited.' It was announced last year that Downey Jr. would be returning to the long-running franchise, six years after being killed off in Avengers: Endgame. This came as Earth's mightiest heroes faced off against purple menace Thanos (Josh Brolin) for the fate of the universe. This spelt the end of Downey Jr.'s career-defining stint as Tony Stark—aka Iron Man—sacrificing himself at the end of the film to secure the future of reality as we know it. A few years later, it was confirmed that he would be returning, albeit in an entirely different role. The actor's appointment to the post was unveiled at last year's Comic-Con, when a cloaked Downey Jr. removed his mask to reveal that he would be playing Doom, real name Victor von Doom. This character was previously played by late Nip/Tuck actor Julian McMahon in the 2005 and 2007 films and by Toby Kebbell in the 2015 reboot. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Doom's brief appearance at the end of First Steps gives little away as to what he has planned, although we do know it involves Sue and Reed's infant son. He will spearhead a massive cast in Avengers: Doomsday, which is currently set for release on December 26, 2026. More Trending Names already announced include Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright and Paul Rudd, as well as X-Men actors Sir Patrick Stewart, Sir Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn and James Marsden. Of his return to the MCU, Downey Jr. joked: 'New mask, same task. 'What did I tell you? I like playing complicated characters.' The Fantastic Four: First Steps is out in UK cinemas now. Got a story? Oscar winner Daniel Kaluuya's absence from spotlight fuels wild rumours

After winning an Oscar for Judas and the Black Messiah, Daniel Kaluuya has retreated from the spotlight, which has led some fans to believe that the star now leads a secret life outside of Hollywood Daniel Kaluuya's career has recently become the subject of wild speculation following his absence from the screen. ‌ Since winning the Best Supporting Actor Oscar in 2021 for Judas and the Black Messiah, the British star has kept a surprisingly low profile in Hollywood blockbusters. When he bagged his Oscar, Kaluuya was reportedly flooded with movie offers - but he has since stayed clear from appearing on screen. However, this had ultimately led to wild rumours emerging online, particularly after a social media post claimed he'd 'joined a cult.' ‌ The post blew up with over 24 million views before being pulled, which had ignited an old story dating back to the filming of Nope. At that time, US media outlets linked Kaluuya to a New Age figure named Vanylla Salimah Mahmoud, also known as Heir Holiness, who described herself as his spiritual adviser and once said she was his manager. ‌ Reports said Kaluuya had ended his relationship with his previous agency and publicists amid concerns about Mahmoud's influence. However, a Hollywood executive close to the actor said Kaluuya hasn't disappeared but is simply following his own path, focusing on smaller films, writing, and producing rather than mainstream blockbusters. ‌ Currently, Kaluuya is involved in the upcoming Spider-Verse animated film and is developing a live-action movie based on the children's character Barney. He is now represented by the William Morris Endeavor agency and has several projects underway through his production company, 59%. Raised on a council estate in north London by his Ugandan single mother, Kaluuya began his career in British television before gaining international recognition with Jordan Peele's 2017 film Get Out, which earned him Oscar and BAFTA nominations. ‌ When asked about the cult rumours in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Kaluuya said: 'It showed me that I was in a paradigm of fame. An unnamed, unverified source has more credibility than what is actually said and the truth of the situation... That's not what happened.' Heir Holiness also denied the cult allegations, calling Kaluuya 'family' and saying, 'They made it up. It was very shocking... My main thing was to make sure he's safe and able to do his work. All of it is fake.' Born in London in 1989 to Ugandan parents, the actor grew up on a Camden council estate. He attended Torriano Primary School, St Aloysius' College, and Camden School for Girls in its co-educational sixth-form for his A-levels. From a young age, he had a passion for acting, writing his first play at nine and studying the art at the Anna Scher Theatre School. Kaluuya began acting professionally in 2006, gaining early fame for his role as Posh Kenneth in Skins and appearing in shows like Doctor Who and Silent Witness before breaking into film.

Iconic comedian reveals jaw-dropping cost of playing Taylor Swift song at his show

Comedian Marc Maron has revealed the eye-watering sum he paid to use Taylor Swift 's music in his stage show. The 61-year-old star revealed the five-digit figure while appearing on Vulture 's Good One podcast this week. 'I think it came out to $50K, around that. I did everything I could to get the joke in front of her,' he said about spoofing the 35-year-old singer's 2022 song Bigger Than the Whole Sky. He said he initially reached out to Swift's longtime collaborator, musician Jack Antonoff. 'I know Jack Antonoff enough to text him — and he's the cowriter on that song,' Maron explained. 'I said, "I don't know what's proper or how to do this, but we're running out of money on this thing. It's probably going to come out of my pocket. Is there anything you can do about this song or talk to Taylor?"' has contacted Taylor's representatives for comment regarding Maron's payment claim but have yet to hear back. Maron said that Antonoff directed him to 'go through the proper channels' to obtain a license for the song, which was featured on Swift's Midnights album. He said about the cost, 'It was doable. We made enough money. It was tight, but because of the ticket sales for the [televised version of the] special, we are able to get that song.' The fee allowed him to sing just 'a minute' of the tune, with financial consequences if he were to extend it. 'If I would have gone over the minute, it would have been more money,' he divulged. 'We couldn't even let it, like, play out the special or anything. So, I got together with a band and wrote that music as the opening and closing. Yeah, it was under a minute,' the entertainer recalled. Maron emphasized his 'history' with the song, and said he felt that he needed to play it during his standup set. 'It had to happen,' he insisted. 'The real fear is, like, she doesn't let you use it, and then what do you do? You can't do the bit on the special. That's why I was, like, [manifesting] "I think she'll like the bit."' The star noted that while Swift's team gave him the ok to use the music, he doesn't know if the Cruel Summer hitmaker has actually heard his bit. Maron has hosted the podcast WTF With Marc Maron since 2009, making him one of the original podcasters. He said about the cost, 'It was doable. We made enough money. It was tight, but because of the ticket sales for the [televised version of the] special, we are able to get that song'; pictured in 2019 In June he announced that he and producer Brendan McDonald are ending the show later this year, per Variety. 'WTF' is coming to an end, and it's our decision,' he told listeners during an episode featuring comedian John Mulaney as a guest. 'We'll have our final episode sometime in the fall.' He added candidly, 'It was not some kind of difficult decision, necessarily. Neither me nor Brendan — who are the only people in charge of this operation on every level — we both realized together that we were done.' Marc is currently promoting the animated family comedy The Bad Guys 2, in theaters August 1.
