Odisha Police holds 448 suspected Bangladeshis, Rohingyas for document verification
While the police in Jagatisnghpur district detained four members of a family residing in the port town of Paradip, 444 persons were brought to two locations for their identification in Jharsuguda district.
"These 444 people in Jharsuguda district are not exactly detained but kept in wait till their documents are verified. We doubt that many of them do not have valid documents to stay in the country," Himanshu Lal, IGP Northern Range Sambalpur, told PTI.
Lal said these people, suspected to be Bangladeshis, have been residing illegally at different locations of Jharsuguda district. "These people are kept in two locations in Jharsuguda and Brajrajnagar. We are verifying their documents to identify illegal immigrants," the IGP said, adding that legal action will be taken against the persons found to be illegally infiltrated from Bangladesh.
Jharsuguda SP Parmar Smit Parshottamdas said a special task force has been formed in Jharsuguda district to identify and deport illegal Bangladeshis and Rohingyas, as per the instruction of the Ministry of Home Affairs .
Sources said that these people are kept at the centre set up at Black Diamond College of Engineering & Technology, Jharsuguda while 261 suspects detained at Surabhi Kalyan Mandap at Brajrajnagar .
Similarly, Paradip Police in Jagatsinghpur district said that it detained four members of a family comprising a man, wife, a son and one daughter while they were staying at a house under the Lock police station area in the port town.
Paradip Lock police station Inspector-in-Charge Rashmiranjan Das, said that the four persons were picked up from Zardari Pada area and taken for detention. "They have confessed to have entered India by crossing a river from Bangladesh and stayed for some time in Kolkata before coming to Paradip," the officer said.
The family came to Paradip by bus 8 days ago with the help of their relatives living in Zardari Pada and staying at a rented house. The police have also started questioning the man who helped the family to settle in Paradip.
Meanwhile, officials, including Kujang Tehsildar and the local Sub-Collector, have visited the police station and recorded detailed information about the case. The government has also been informed, an official said.

Somaiya seeks action against accused in Malegaon birth certificate scam
Nashik: Former BJP MP Kirit Somaiya called for action against all 1,044 beneficiaries who allegedly obtained birth certificates from the Malegaon Municipal Corporation by submitting fake orders in the name of the tehsildar. Four separate cases were registered in connection with the birth certificate scam. Officials suspect that in three cases filed at the Malegaon Chawani police station, the tehsildar's orders were secured through counterfeit documents, resulting in delayed issuance of birth certificates. "Over 50 people are accused in these cases, with most suspects currently in custody. In the case registered at the Malegaon Killa police station, it is alleged that 1,044 birth certificates were fraudulently obtained from the municipal corporation using bogus orders attributed to the tehsildar. Action should be taken against each person who has benefited from it," said Somaiya, who was on a day's visit to Malegaon. Somaiya alleged more than 4,000 residents of Malegaon acquired fake birth certificates through the procedure for issuing delayed birth certificates and claimed that they were aimed at the rehabilitation of Bangladeshi infiltrators and the Rohingyas. During his visit to Malegaon, he first met with Malegaon commissioner Ravindra Jadhav and then visited Malegaon Killa police station, where he met additional superintendent of police Tegbir Singh Sandhu. Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Raja Banthia said, "The woman experienced several issues and frequent arguments with Nikhil, leading her to leave and stay with the caller's family." At the time of the alleged murder, the woman, who is the mother of the deceased toddler, had gone out with her husband to pick up her 5-year-old daughter from school. Nikhil went over to the house and allegedly slit the throats of both his ex-girlfriend and the toddler with a knife, the DCP added. According to the police, it appeared that Nikhil allegedly killed the woman out of anger for breaking up with him, and then murdered the toddler to take revenge on the friend for providing his former girlfriend shelter away from him.
