The Devil Wears Prada 2: What we know so far

BBC News4 days ago
In 2006, the world was gifted one of the most quotable and magnificent films of the 21st Century. No, no. That wasn't a question. The Devil Wears Prada, based on a book by Lauren Weisberger, starred Meryl Streep as a demon fashion magazine editor who made ridiculous demands of her long-suffering assistants, played by Emily Blunt and Anne Hathaway. The movie managed to both celebrate and send up the fashion industry at the same time. It has developed a cult following over the years and was recently adapted as a stage musical. The film studios may have been moving at a glacial pace for the last two decades (you know how that thrills us), but now, we're finally getting a sequel. Here's everything we know so far.
Who is starring in the sequel?
Miranda Priestly, along with her career-ending pursed lips and excellent taste in cerulean sweaters, will once again be portrayed by Hollywood royalty Meryl Streep. It will be the actress's first film since 2021's Don't Look Up.Anne Hathaway will reprise her role as Andrea "Andy" Sachs, provided there isn't some kind of hideous skirt convention she has to go to. Her fellow assistant Emily, played by Emily Blunt, will also return, having hopefully given up her diet where she doesn't eat anything, unless she feels like she's going to faint, and then she eats a cube of cheese. Miranda's right-hand man Nigel, played by Stanley Tucci, who must surely be due a promotion after his whole life went up in smoke, will be back as well.New cast members include British actor Kenneth Branagh, who will reportedly play Miranda's husband. We hope he knows how to spell Gabbana. But one person who won't be back is Andrea's boyfriend Nate, played by Entourage star Adrian Grenier. He and the couple's group of friends were perceived as the villains of the first film as the movie was gradually reappraised over the years, and viewers have increasingly criticised Andy's support network for not, well, supporting her and her career.
What will the plot be?
Weisberger did write a sequel to her original novel, 2013's Revenge Wears Prada, but it's not clear how closely the second film will resemble it.In the second book, Andy had recently turned 30, was about to get married and was now a successful magazine editor in her own right, working closely with her former Runway survivor Emily - before Miranda re-enters her life. The book is rumoured to be the basis of the film sequel, but according to Hollywood trade publication Variety, there will some new story elements too.Viewers will reportedly join Miranda Priestly as she navigates the decline of traditional magazine publishing. It's understood she will be forced to court her one-time assistant Emily, who is now a high-powered executive for a luxury group, for advertising revenue. In real life, Weisberger briefly worked at Vogue as an assistant to Dame Anna Wintour's assistant at Vogue, who coincidentally announced last week she was stepping down as the magazine's editor-in-chief after 37 years.
Who will write and direct the sequel?
It's not just the stars who are returning for The Devil Wears Prada 2 - the core creative team are back too.David Frankel will return to direct, having helmed Marley & Me, Hope Springs and Collateral Beauty in the interim. And Aline Brosh McKenna will once again write the screenplay. Since 2006, she has also written Cruella, Morning Glory, 27 Dresses and I Don't Know How She Does It.It's clear the stars and creative team have fond memories of the film, and Streep, Hathaway and Blunt reunited at the SAG Awards last year for a short sketch as their beloved characters. The actors have often been asked what their characters might be up to today. In 2022, Hathaway mused: "I think [Andrea] is writing for a wonderful French women's magazine. I think she's a staff writer and she speaks French fluently. I don't think she's married, but she might have a child or two. I think she's pretty fab."
When will the film be released?
Gird your loins, The Devil Wears Prada 2 is due to be released in cinemas on Friday 1 May 2026. With impeccable timing, that is the weekend before fashion's biggest night, the Met Gala, the following Monday. A sequel? For Spring? Goundbreaking.

Kanye West snaps photos of Bianca Censori in see-through nightie after his visa to her country was canceled

Bianca Censori is flashing the flesh again, in the midst of yet another revealing display orchestrated by her husband Kanye West. Ever since they secretly tied the knot in 2022, Bianca has consistently shocked fans with the barely-there ensembles her husband styles for her. Her latest outfit was by her standards relatively sedate, comprised of a strapless see-through nightie draped over a set of white lingerie. West, 48, snapped a trio of Polaroids of her lounging around in an empty carpeted room, in front of a large window with sheer drapes clouding a city view. Heightening the retro air of the photo-shoot, Censori was wearing a voluminous blonde hairdo with 1980s waves and a lush fringe. Censori defiantly posted the shots to Instagram on Saturday - three days after it emerged West's visa to her native Australia has been canceled. Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke has revealed that West is being denied entry to the country over his antisemitic song praising Adolf Hitler. The track, titled Heil Hitler, was dropped by the singer on May 8 and was deemed to be 'promoting Nazism'. As a result, officials revised West's 'lower-level' visa and came to the decision that it would be revoked. 'He's been coming to Australia for a long time. He's got family here and he's made a lot of offensive comments that my officials looked at again,' Burke told the ABC. 'Once he released the Heil Hitler song, he no longer has a valid visa in Australia. 'It wasn't a visa for the purpose of concerts. It was a lower-level and the officials still looked at the law and said, you're going to have a song and promote that sort of Nazism, we don't need that in Australia.' West has flown to Australia in the past, and was most recently believed to be planning a trip Down Under to visit the family of his Australian wife, Bianca Censori. In May, West took aim at Kim Kardashian, referenced his sex life with wife Censori, and continued to profess his love for Adolf Hitler as he released the music video for his vile new song, Heil Hitler (Hooligan Version). West, 48, snapped a trio of Polaroids of her lounging around in an empty carpeted room, in front of a large window with sheer drapes clouding a city view The rapper, 47, took to X (formerly Twitter) to share the clip, which showed a group of shirtless black males draped in animal skins professing their love for Hitler. His chosen day to release the song was also of significance because it fell on VE Day - the 80-year anniversary of when fighting against Nazi Germany in Europe came to an end. In the song, Kanye rapped that he had 'so much anger' inside of him adding: 'these people took my kids from me and they froze my bank account.' The Chicago native has publicly clashed with ex-wife Kim, 44, about the co-parenting of their 11-year-old daughter, North and their three younger kids - daughter Chicago, seven; and sons Saint, nine, and Psalm, five - claiming he has not been allowed to see them. He claimed that be became a Nazi because of his custody battle, singing: 'With all of my money and fame I still don't get to see my children / N*****s see my Twitter but they don't see how I be feeling / So I became a Nazi, yeah b***h, I'm the villain.' The line, 'N****r, heil Hitler' is repeated 15 times in the song. Kanye also referenced his wild antics with new wife Bianca - who he has been accused of 'controlling' by parading her around in near-naked ensembles. In the song he claimed to be a 'cuck'. Cuckholding is widely used to describe the fetish where people (usually men) are turned on by their partners having affairs. He sang: 'Guess I am a cuck, I love when people f**k on my b***h', later adding: 'She reaching down in my pants. She got the world in her hands.' Kanye also addressed his wild social media exchanges, which has seen him temporarily banned from several sites, including X. He sang: 'They don't understand the things I say on Twitter'. The song ended with Kanye sampling one of Hitler's speech in 1935, which translates to: 'Whether you think my work is right, whether you believe that I have been diligent. 'That I have worked, that I have stood up for you during these years, that I have used my time decently in the service of my people. 'You cast your vote now, if yes, then stand up for me as I stood up for you.' After posting his new music video, Kanye appeared on a livestream with internet personalities Sneako and Adin Ross as he continued to defend his love of Hitler. Adin asked: 'Do you think that Hitler would've liked you for being Black?' to which Kanye insisted he would. He explained: 'I would've been one of the scientists that America ended up cleaning up and bringing in and having serve America after the fact - I'm a scientist so...' Kanye has remained in the crosshairs of controversy for much of the year amid a torrent of posts propagating antisemitism. On February 11, the shop on Kanye's Yeezy Website - which he advertised with an expensive ad during the Super Bowl - was taken offline by Shopify after he was selling a white shirt with a black swastika in the center. He has also frequently made posts praising Adolf Hitler. Kanye spoke more about the controversy in a series of posts on February 20 - promising to wear the swastika shirt onstage at the Super Bowl. 'Next year I'm performing at the superbowl wearing my wittle T shirt,' he said. 'People with money bought my wittle t shirt.' He added that Shopify 'gave [him his] account back' after taking down his store after controversy erupted over the shirts, but that he was 'not going to use it.' Sources close to Kim told that she is now taking extra precautions and has hired guards to be with her 24/7 amid his erratic behavior. The reality star has also told relatives to be careful sharing anything about her children online, the source revealed. She has instructed her closest allies not to post about their locations or upload photos or messages that could identify where they might be. 'She's absolutely horrified,' the source told the Daily Mail. 'Like every time things get bad with Kanye, somehow they get worse.' They finalised their divorce in 2022 and agreed to joint custody of their children, but the conflict between them has continued. I've got so much anger in me / Got no way to take it out Think I'm stuck in the Matrix / Where the f**k is my nitrous? Guess I am a cuck / I love when people f**k on my b***h Things that I'm posting on Twitter they're saying Ye don't say that N****s can see me in public I'm driving all all-chrome Maybach With all of my money and fame I still can't get my kids back With all of my money and fame I still don't get to see my children N****s see my Twitter but they don't see how I be feeling So I became a Nazi, yeah b***h I'm the villain N****r, heil Hitler / N****r, heil Hitler They don't understand the things I say on Twitter N****r, heil Hitler They don't understand the things I say on Twitter All my n*****rs Nazi, heil Hitler N****r, heil Hitler / N****r, heil Hitler All my n*****rs Nazi, heil Hitler She don't want to f**k in Japan, I put the chrome on the Benz N****r, heil Hitler She reaching down in my pants /She got the world in her hands N****r, heil Hitler / N****r, heil Hitler / N****r, heil Hitler All my n*****s Nazis, heil Hitler N****r, heil Hitler /N****r, heil Hitler All my n*****s Nazis, heil Hitler

Justin Bieber takes his $200K electric G-Wagon for a spin as wife Hailey is brutally mocked by fans

Justin Bieber looked stern behind the wheel of his $200K electric Mercedes G-Wagon as he cruised through the streets of Los Angeles on Fourth of July. The Peaches hitmaker, 31 - who recently enjoyed a solo outing to a Russian bathhouse - donned a printed white shirt and black shades while heading to his next destination. The music artist rolled down the windows to the luxurious vehicle and causally rested his left arm out of the driver's side. It comes not long after his wife Hailey was brutally mocked by fans over a new Rhode product - as the couple continue to be embroiled in speculation of relationship trouble. Earlier this week, the two stars were seen going on a number of separate outings - with Justin spotted leaving a Russian-inspired spa called Voda on Thursday. That same day, the model was seen cruising through the streets in a sleek vehicle in the bustling city. At one point, she was spotted glancing down at her phone in her hand. And just one day earlier on Wednesday, the two stars were also spotted on solo outings once again. The media personality - whose brand Rhode was recently acquired by E.l.f. Cosmetics for a major $1 billion deal - enjoyed a bite to eat at celebrity hotspot Sushi Park alongside Leonardo DiCaprio's ex Camila Morrone. Bieber flashed her toned figure in a semi-sheer, black lace top as well as a pair of chic black trousers. Meanwhile, the Baby singer gave a glimpse at his workout routine by taking to his Instagram stories. He uploaded a photo of himself going shirtless at the gym and was also joined by pal and fellow music artist Gunna. Despite their recent solo outings, Justin and Hailey put on an united front while attending DJ Martin Garrix's headlining gig in L.A. over the past weekend on Sunday. In a short reel uploaded by a fan on TikTok, Bieber could be seen backstage with Hailey. The couple - who tied the knot in 2018 - stood next to each other as Justin draped his arm over his wife's shoulders. The two stars were later seen grooving to the DJ's set in a VIP section and at one point, the singer removed his shirt as he stood behind Hailey. Despite their recent solo outings, Justin and Hailey put on an united front while attending DJ Martin Garrix's headlining gig in L.A. over the past weekend on Sunday; seen in 2022 in Las Vegas And on Saturday, Justin jumped to his main Instagram page to share a series of snaps which also featured his wife Hailey. The pictures were taken to show the star inside a music studio surrounded by Hailey and other pals. Bieber donned a shirt that had 'I have time for nothing except being cute' printed on the back as he stood next to recording equipment. Hailey kept it casual in a short-sleeved, striped shirt as well as white shorts as she supported her husband. It came amid swirling rumors of relationship woes between the pair - and a source talked to Us Weekly last week about their 'tense' marriage. 'Things aren't great right now,' the insider stated, and added Bieber's erratic behavior has caused 'a lot of stress' for Hailey. 'Family issues have clouded her success. Justin's going through a difficult time, and Hailey is giving him room to get himself back on track. He's doing his best, but it's tough.' But late last week, Justin seemingly dropped a major hint about his relationship with Hailey when he shared an Instagram post that included photos of both his wife and baby son Jack Blues. A few days earlier, Hailey was brutally mocked after debuting her latest Rhode beauty accessory for the Peptide Lip Treatment. When she came out with the Rhode Lip Case in February - a phone case with a built-in holder for the lip tint and other lip gloss - fans swarmed to buy it. But a new launch in the Rhode line may have damaged those accolades. Along with a new 'Lemontini' Peptide Lip Tint, Hailey debuted a Rhode Belly Chain - a waist chain meant to hold her lip tints - on her Instagram feed. The chain was shown in a series of promotional photos of Hailey that included the starlet in a black tube top and matching shorts. Hailey captioned the photo dump 'lemontini ballerini' followed by a lemon emoji and martini emoji. But aside from the lip tint itself, fans focused their attention on the 'belly chain.' Waist beads have origins in ancient Egypt and West Africa, while waist chains can be traced to the Indian subcontinent. Many people, knowing this, claimed that Hailey's new product was a form of cultural appropriation. Even aside from that, fans criticized the Rhode belly chain for being an unnecessary (and impractical) cash grab - and made less than complimentary comparisons. 'This and the phone case are stupid as f**k to be honest, at this point she's just trying to sell SUPER unnecessary things, consumerism at its max,' one X (formerly Twitter) user wrote. 'Why would any woman want to wear there lip tint around the waist like that?' another asked. 'The phone case was cute but she's milking this concept now,' one fan wrote, and another shared, 'It looks like a tampon holder.' 'Celebrities are crazy. This is the most unnecessary thing ever,' added a fourth. An hour after Hailey posted on her own personal Instagram, the official Rhode account posted a picture of the new lip tint with a caption explaining that the Lemontini Peptide Lip Tint would be the first with a new and improved formula. It comes not long after Hailey made a $1 billion deal with E.l.f. Cosmetics which acquired her brand Rhode. And her dad Stephen recently reacted to the big news during a recent episode of The Adam Carolla Show. 'It took her three years,' he said. 'What, did you think that was just some rotten tomatoes journey? The cool part of it is she's super smart, smart in business.' Baldwin continued, 'Succeeded as a model prior to everything she's doing now. But the cool part was she actually had an offer to do something pretty big and cool in the cosmetics a couple years ago and didn't. 'The reason its succeeding is people are responding to it. It actually works as hydration and all of that.'

The absurd reason a single bucket of popcorn will hit $80 on your next trip to the movies

Popcorn markups have long been a gripe for movie theatre goers, but the latest hit to their wallets will be the container it is served in. Over the last few years a new phenomenon has taken over cinemas across America: specially designed popcorn buckets to accompany blockbuster releases. The bucket due to be released alongside Marvel's 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps' is set to cost $80, the Wall Street Journal reported. It will feature a replica of the head of the film's villain Galactus, complete with glowing LED eyes and removable purple horns. It may also need its own seat at the movie theatre, as the enormous bowl is able to hold up to 361 ounces of popcorn, more than twice that of a typical large popcorn serving. Other recent custom popcorn buckets include a Daily Planet newspaper box for 'Superman,' a martial art board bucket top for 'Karate Kid: Legends' and a vault with a special key for the latest 'Mission: Impossible.' These popcorn buckets have tended to cost in the region of $25 to $50. Both film producers and cinema chains are eager to produce a bucket they hope will help generate revenue and excitement about an upcoming film. 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps' popcorn bucket is set to cost $80 'It's very accretive and complementary to what we're doing at the box office and concession sales,' John Curry, senior vice president of commercial at Regal, told the Journal. In 2023, Swifties went wild for the Eras Tour film bucket with the popstar blazoned on the side. The craze took off even more after the release of the popcorn holder for 'Dune: Part Two' last year. The custom container from AMC was designed to resemble one of the giant sandworms from the film. However, fans soon suggested the mouth was sexually suggestive and turned the buckets into a viral sensation. 'Saturday Night Live' even created a skit about a teenager losing their virginity to the bucket. The bucket was designed by Zinc Group, who said sexual innuendo 'was definitely not the intent.' However, the publicity led to more demand and 'now everybody wants to do a popcorn bucket and everyone wants to make it into something that will be iconic,' Rod Mason, vice president of business development at Zinc, told the Journal. A custom popcorn container for upcoming release 'Jurassic World: Rebirth' In 2023 Swifties went wild for the Eras Tour film bucket with the popstar blazoned on the side The martial art board bucket top for 'Karate Kid: Legends' Zinc licenses the rights to make its collectible buckets from studios and then movie theatres order them to sell to consumers. Chains such as AMC and Cinemark tend to order between 20,000 and 100,000 of each bucket design. Sometimes the buckets are an instant hit and sell out before being resold by consumers on eBay for hundreds of dollars. Other designs that flop, often along with the films themselves, end up being sold by the movie theatres at a discount online.
