How Keke Palmer spends her 5 to 9 — from morning Pilates to drinking whiskey
So, ahead of our call, I was intrigued to find out what Palmer was like one-on-one, without cameras flashing or being on a big movie set.
What I discovered is that she is everything you'd want a celebrity to be: simultaneously relatable (she's also obsessed with Pilates) and somehow otherworldly (she's motivated to work until 2 a.m.).
In the latest installment of Business Insider's "5-9" series, Palmer, 31, shares a glimpse into her busy life as a businesswoman and mother, as part of her collaboration with American Express' Business Platinum Card.
What time do you get up, and what's your morning routine?
I put my clothes out the night before and get up between 6 a.m. and 6.45 a.m. If my workday starts after 8 a.m., I'll use that hour from 7 a.m. to work out: Pilates is my favorite.
When I get back, I'll have a coffee. I'm drinking my water, and I've got my Stanley. Then I'll start work.
Do you do reformer or mat Pilates?
I love them both for different reasons. If I do mat Pilates, it's going to be heated, and if I do reformer Pilates, it's not. If my hair is done, I'm doing reformer, for sure. I don't want to get sweaty on the mat.
The Pilates that I do is not as yoga-leaning, it's athletic — not cardio, but very intricate and muscle-building.
It's the moment of my day that I get to myself, even if I'm in a class with other people. It's just me, feeling it, existing in the world, and doing something for myself. It's really meditative.
When you're focusing so hard on what you're doing, you can't think about anything else.
Exactly, girl.
What do you have for breakfast?
I try to eat something that will really nourish me, especially as I've got older and work so much. I love what I do, and I'm trying to extend my ability to keep doing it.
Anything that's a whole food. I love eggs. Sometimes, I have egg whites with potatoes. This morning, I had sweet potato pancakes with a side of yogurt.
It's not that I don't care about taste, I do, but I want to make sure that it's stuff that's going to be prolonging me for the rest of the day. Especially with all the traveling, too.
How do you keep yourself healthy while traveling a lot?
I definitely need a premium travel experience. I use my American Express Business Platinum Card because I can relax in the lounge, get something to eat, and do a little work if I need to.
I travel for work mostly, sometimes getting right off the plane and straight into business, so the peace and the comfort that I can obtain from that kind of experience is helpful when I go in and pitch.
What are your wellness essentials?
I have an array of different things that really feed into my ability to stay grounded and at ease.
For me, therapy is seasonal. I think that therapy is good if you're not doing it all the time.
I love journaling, prayer, and any type of fitness, such as Pilates, yoga, and hiking. All of that stuff brings me immense joy. I love a good hike by myself, and I like doing things solo, because I'm always around so many people when I'm working.
I love bingeing comfort TV. It doesn't even have to be the most interesting thing.
Spending time with family is huge for me, especially my little boy. I love to be with him. It's like time stops.
What time do you get home from work?
When I'm on set, I can go as late as 2 a.m., but if I get out at a normal time, then I'm off around 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Do you generally not eat dinner at home?
I usually eat before I get home. And then when I'm back, I try to give my stomach a rest to digest because eating so late can mess me up for the next morning and disturb my sleep.
Are you consciously intermittent fasting?
I don't think of it that way. I think about it in terms of my gut.
I've had a lot of health issues with PCOS, my nervous system, and my stomach, which has always been very sensitive. So, over these past few years, it's been really important for me to understand how to help my stomach and what foods are ticking it off, because when your gut brain is good, the rest of your brain is good.
Once you find out what works for you, it makes a real difference.
A lot of times, they're telling you the things that are good for you, but they're not necessarily good for you. Or they're telling you the things that are bad for you, but they're not necessarily bad for you.
People often say, "No rice, no potatoes," but my body prefers those, and I'm not saying they've got to be deep-fried. I pair that with something fibrous, protein, or beans. That's good for me.
Do you have a go-to drink?
Yes, whiskey.
With ice?
No, I don't want it watered down!

Do you have a skincare routine?
It's kind of simple, but there are certain ingredients I like to use. Niacinamide, over-the-counter retinol — not prescribed because I don't want to go too harsh.
I love La Roche Posay Mela B3 for dark spots, and also La Roche Posay's kids' and adults' SPF because it doesn't burn my eyes.
I like oil-based cleansers, especially if I'm doing a lot of performing. Sometimes the makeup's coming on and off, and I don't want a cleanser that's going to be too stripping.
I do switch up products because I honestly think that you have to learn your skin and be able to touch, feel, and look at it, and then define what you're going to do based on that.
What's your nighttime routine?
I love watching TV and oiling my hair while in the bath, using face wash and moisturizer, setting out my clothes, and turning on my bed warmer. It's a warming blanket from Amazon. I put it underneath my sheet, and it's perfect.
I lie in bed. I might look at my phone or journal, drop a couple of magnesium drops in my water, maybe a little bit of turmeric, and sip on that. I have a bean bag eye mask. Sometimes, I microwave it. I put it on my eyes, and I'm out.
I'll always go to sleep to some sitcom like "Girlfriends" or "Gilmore Girls" — any type of comfort show.

'It Ends With Us' editor complained 'SMH' about Blake Lively's approval rights for sex scenes, unsealed texts show
As they raced to complete the blockbuster movie "It Ends With Us," one editor told another that he was shaking his head over Blake Lively's final-cut approval for her character's sex scenes. "SMH," editor Robb Sullivan told co-editor Oona Flaherty, according to a text chain unsealed Friday as part of Lively's federal sexual-harassment lawsuit against costar and director Justin Baldoni. In the chain, Sullivan is remarking on Lively having final approval for not only her own sex scenes in the movie, but those of the young actor playing her character's teenage self in flashbacks. The brief text chain, dated four months before the film's 2024 release, hints at the tension surrounding Lively's demand for control over the most sensitive scenes. It begins with Sullivan and Flaherty celebrating winning a PG-13 rating. "Woot!" Flaherty texts, to which Sullivan responds, "Woo hoo," and "I'll drink to that! Of course, I was planning on drinking anyways…. :)" Sullivan is not a party to the lawsuit; he did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider. Lively's 163-page lawsuit accuses Baldoni of sexual harassment, retaliation, and attempting to damage her reputation and her lifestyle businesses by orchestrating a surreptitious social media attack campaign. Baldoni has denied the allegations, including in a now-dismissed $400 million countersuit that alleged she engaged in a "hostile takeover" of the production. Lively's lawsuit is being aggressively litigated against by Baldoni and his co-defendant production company Wayfarer Studios. In mid-July, the judge ordered Lively to turn over three years of her business income records to Baldoni. Lively's lawsuit is scheduled to go to trial on March 9 in federal court in Manhattan. The text chain released Friday had originally been turned over to Lively's legal team by Baldoni in response to one of her subpoenas, according to legal filings. Dated April 18, 2024, it now remains redacted to hide the contact information of the participants. They include a "J B," who does not comment on the exchange, and does not appear to include Lively, who is referred to as "Blake." "Honestly, it's all about control," a participant identified as "Henny Grace" writes at one point in the chain. The text chain was originally uploaded to the lawsuit's case file by Lively's team as a sealed exhibit addressed to US District Judge Lewis Liman, the Manhattan judge handling the case. It was part of Lively's efforts to serve Sullivan with a subpoena. Lively's process server had been unable to serve Sullivan in person after five visits to his California address in mid-July, according to a July 28 decision signed by Liman. "The process server attempted to serve Sullivan both during the day and after work hours but did not receive an answer, despite lights and television being on in the residence," Liman wrote in allowing the process server to tack a copy of Lively's subpoena to Sullivan's door. Lively's attempts to serve subpoenas have been the subject of heated litigation in the last month. On July 26, Liman wrote that Lively has withdrawn her subpoenas to Google and X seeking the account information of five content creators who had been critical of her role in the lawsuit. The five content creators had all filed motions to quash Lively's subpoenas.

MrBeast's plan to reach a new generation of fans
MrBeast has been in the lab cooking up an animated show that he hopes will hook the next generation on his videos. The world's biggest YouTuber announced a new anime-style series coming in October called "MrBeast Lab: The Descent," based on a wildly popular toy line he launched last summer. MrBeast and his team partnered with Australia-based Moose Toys for both the animated show and his "MrBeast Lab" toys. Those action figures debuted last July and became the best-selling new toy property in 2024 across 12 leading global markets tracked by retail sales data provider Circana, the company confirmed to Business Insider. Stephen Davis, the chief franchise officer at Moose Toys, told BI that his team had been talking with MrBeast about making an animated series for a while. The success of their MrBeast-inspired toys last holiday season convinced both sides to make an animated series that would fuel sales for new versions of their toys — and vice versa. "With the launch of this next product line, it was the right time to now move into animation," Davis said. Besides generating millions of YouTube views and selling tons of toys, MrBeast — whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson — is moving into animation to grow his already-massive audience, specifically by introducing himself to younger viewers. "We wanted to create a show that was as inviting to a younger demo as it was to an older demo," Davis said. Growing the tent to fit Gen Alpha Animation isn't just for kids, as the recent breakout success of Netflix's "Kpop Demon Hunters" demonstrates. Davis emphasized that point, saying that the "MrBeast Lab" show's "modern anime flavor" could help expand the fandom while also appealing to MrBeast's current YouTube subscriber base of over 418 million. Still, industry insiders told BI they thought viewership for MrBeast's animated show would skew younger than his Gen Z -heavy following. "He's filling a white space for his audience," said Amanda Cioletti, the VP of content and strategy for the licensing group at market-making firm Informa Markets. Gen Alpha children, between the ages of one and 15, appear to be a target demographic for this cartoon. Davis said the audience for the "MrBeast Lab" action figures is kids ages six and older, though he added adults in the so-called "kid-ult" community also buy the toys. MrBeast isn't the only content creator who's dabbling in toys. Kid-focused YouTubers like Ms. Rachel, Ryan of "Ryan's World," and the girl from "Kids Diana Show" have toy lines to reach preschoolers. STEM YouTuber Mark Rober, whose audience is older, is also getting into the mix, with a toy line from Moose Toys coming in 2026. More than a cash grab MrBeast and Moose Toys dream of a virtuous cycle in which toy sales spark interest in their show, and the other way around. Cioletti said that MrBeast likely launched the toys first to feel out the market before making the cartoon. While toy sales data from Circana suggests that the MrBeast-Moose Toys tie-up is lucrative, Davis declined to comment on the terms or structure of his firm's partnership with MrBeast. Klecker said MrBeast's approach to brand building shows he's focused on staying power across generations. "What I appreciate about what MrBeast does is there isn't a 'label slap,'" Klecker said, referring to a hasty money grab trading on a famous name. "He's very thoughtful, it seems, about his brand building and his brand strategy." Smart brand partnerships fulfill unmet needs, she said, adding that MrBeast seems to be on the right track so far.
