It was 'Thursday Night Live' at New York City's Comedy Cellar when Steve Martin tested out new material ahead of the 50th celebration of 'Saturday Night Live' on Sunday.
The 'Only Murders in the Building' star hit the stage of Manhattan's venerated stand-up haunt, playing to his toughest crowd: fellow A-listers and famous comedians.
Chris Rock, David Spade, Leslie Jones, Martin Short and Ray Romano were all reportedly in attendance as Martin rehearsed his jokes for 'SNL 50.'
Sacha Baron Cohen, Helena Christensen, Woody Harrelson and Beck were also in the audience, according to TMZ.
Per the outlet, the Thursday night show featured surprise performances from Ray Romano, Aziz Ansari, Nate Bargatze, Marcello Hernandez and Colin Quinn. The star-studded spectacle cost unsuspecting comedy fans just $18 a ticket.
'We've had legendary nights at the Comedy Cellar, but as a child of the '70s I've never been as starstruck as seeing Steve Martin,' Comedy Cellar owner Noam Dworman told TMZ. 'The term 'national treasure' is overused, but I believe Steve is one. I love 'How to Fold Soup' and everything he's ever done.'
Martin, 79, is an esteemed member of the Five-Timers Club, an exclusive group made up of those who have hosted 'SNL' five or more times. Tom Hanks, Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin, Candice Bergen, Elliott Gould and John Mulaney are also among the elite class.
Members of the club, among many others, are expected to make appearances for the 'SNL50: The Anniversary Special,' set to air Feb. 16.
The three-hour live telecast, with Dave Chappelle, Sabrina Carpenter, Bad Bunny and Scarlett Johansson confirmed to appear, airs at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.

Neal McDonough and his wife walk back what he said about Hollywood turning on him: 'No, it didn't'

Ruvé McDonough thanked the entertainment industry and said, "The right people found Neal and put him in the right place." Neal McDonough would like a second take. After making headlines for saying on a recent podcast that Hollywood "completely turned on me" for refusing to kiss anyone other than his wife, the veteran actor and his better half walked back those remarks in a joint interview with TMZ. "We want to say thank you, Hollywood," Ruvé McDonough said, expressing gratitude for her husband's success in showbiz. "I don't like how people are saying that Hollywood turned its back on Neal. No, it didn't. The right people found Neal and put him in the right place. We want to say thank you, Hollywood. We want to continue doing incredible films with Neal, giving the right messages. We don't want to say Hollywood turned. Guided us to where we are is what Hollywood did, and we want to say, 'Thank you, Hollywood.'" Neal, whose screen credits include popular shows like Yellowstone and Suits, agreed. "Everyone talks about that stuff that happened all those years ago," he said. "If it weren't for that, we wouldn't be here. Those were stepping stones, and it made our relationship closer." The reframing came in the wake of Neal appearing on the Nothing Left Unsaid podcast and saying that he'd been fired from an unnamed TV show after refusing to film an intimate scene with a costar. "When I wouldn't do it, and they couldn't understand it, Hollywood just completely turned on me," he said. "They wouldn't let me be part of the show anymore. And for two years, I couldn't get a job, and I lost everything you could possibly imagine. Not just houses and material things, but your swagger, your cool, who you are, your identity, everything." He also explained what had been behind his decision. "I always had in my contracts that I wouldn't kiss another woman on screen," he said on the podcast. "My wife didn't have any problem with it. It was me, really, who had a problem. I was like, 'Yeah, I don't want to put you through it. I know we're going to start having kids, and I don't want to put my kids through it.'" The couple now share five children, whom they also mentioned in their joint interview. "If they were to see Dad kissing another woman, it would hurt them," Ruvé said. "When Neal swears on film, which he rarely does, we would tell our kids when they were younger, 'Oh, no, that's a dub, that's a voiceover. Dad did not say S-H-I-T,' because we don't swear."She also reiterated their good fortune, saying, "We cannot explain and express how blessed we are, how happy we are. Everything that's going on, talking about how Hollywood dissed Neal and whatnot — no. Everything that's happened has brought us closer to where we are now." Neal's other screen credits include TV's Band of Brothers, Arrow, Desperate Housewives, and The Flash, plus films like Minority Report and The Last Rodeo. He costarred in the latter film with his wife. Read the original article on Entertainment Weekly

Jeremy Renner Plans to Return to Marvel: ‘My Body's Getting Ready'

Jeremy Renner is ready to step back into Hawkeye's suit. In a new interview with Empire, the actor said that he is 'sure' he will return as the Marvel superhero, either in a second season of Disney+ series Hawkeye or in a future MCU movie. 'I'm always happy to be in that world, man,' Renner said. 'I love all those guys, I love the character. I'm sure we'll end up doing Season 2 [of Hawkeye], and do other things. And I'm happy to do it. My body's getting ready for something like that. I don't know if anybody wants to see me in tights, but my body will look good in the tights.' 'I'm more than 150 per cent of what I was prior to the incident,' he told Empire. 'Having health and wellness be such a central part of my life, that's what's gotten me back. And even as I age, I just feel stronger than I've been. I have some issues, and tendon issues and certain limitations of flexibility and mobility, but I spent a lot of time on getting better and stronger, and I wouldn't if I didn't get crushed.' Earlier this year, Renner confirmed he previously passed on a second season of Hawkeye because he was offered 'half' of his pay from the first season. 'They asked me to do Season 2, and they offered me half the money,' the actor said. 'I'm like, 'Well, it's going to take me twice the amount of work for half the amount of money, and eight months of my time, essentially, to do it for half the amount.' He alluded that the reason behind the lower offer was due to his accident, which crushed more than 30 bones in his body. 'I'm like, 'I'm sorry? Why? Did you think I'm only half the Jeremy because I got ran over? Maybe that's why you want to pay me half of what I made on the first season,'' he said. The first season of Hawkeye debuted on Disney+ in 2021 and starred Renner alongside Hailee Steinfeld and Florence Pugh. Renner also appeared as the character in several Marvel films, including The Avengers. Gary Busey Pleads Guilty to Groping Woman's Behind

Gary Busey admitted he purposely groped a woman's buttocks while posing with fans at a New Jersey horror convention in 2022, pleading guilty to fourth-degree criminal sexual contact on Thursday. The 81-year-old actor entered the plea during a virtual hearing, admitting he touched the woman for his own gratification. 'You understand now, and you knew then that that was not appropriate. It was wrong, correct,' a prosecutor asked Busey. 'Yes, very much,' he responded. More from Rolling Stone Sean Combs' Allies Have Upped Pardon Talks. His Survivors Want to Shut Them Down Sean Combs Asks Judge to Ditch His Conviction or Retry Prostitution Counts Alec Baldwin's Lawsuit Against New Mexico Prosecutors Dismissed The incident occurred at the semi-annual Monster-Mania Con in Camden, New Jersey in August 2022. While posing with fans Busey was accused of groping several women, who filed reports with local police. The actor was charged with two counts of criminal sexual contact in the fourth degree; one count of attempting criminal sexual contact in the fourth degree, and one disorderly conduct count of harassment. Under the plea agreement, prosecutors will drop the remaining charges, according to CourtTV. Busey faces between one to five years of probation and fines, and has agreed not to contact the woman. His sentencing is set for Sept. 18. Throughout the hearing, a disheveled Busey seemed distracted, seemingly having problems with his hearing aid. At one point, he took a swing from a soda can, which earned him a sharp rebuke from the judge. Busey's guilty plea comes after he originally claimed the women had made the entire thing up. 'None of that happened,' he told TMZ in 2022. 'There were a partner, and a camera lady, and me and two girls. It took less than 10 seconds, and then they left. Then, they made up this story that I assaulted them sexually — but I did not.' Despite his admission to the unwanted touching, Busey's attorney still seemed to object to referring to the women as victims. 'I disagree with, most respectfully, for identifying the individuals and counts two through five as victims,' the attorney said. 'Since those cases are being dismissed — it's just a technical matter — I don't think they remain victims if they're being dismissed.' Rolling Stone has reached out to Busey's attorney for further comment.
