BJP celebrates Telangana Formation Day, vows ethical governance: K Reddy

Hyderabad, June 2 (UNI) Telangana Formation Day was celebrated with grandeur at the BJP state office on Monday, where Union Minister and BJP Telangana President G Kishan Reddy unfurled the national flag in the presence of party leaders and activists.
Addressing the gathering, K Reddy extended greetings to the people of Telangana and remembered the sacrifices of the youth during the statehood movement. He highlighted BJP's active role in the Telangana agitation, emphasising its early involvement through the JAC and its advocacy in Parliament.
Reddy launched a strong attack on both the BRS and Congress, calling them exploitative and corrupt.
He alleged that under their rule, Telangana has been pushed into a debt of Rs 10 lakh crore and failed to deliver the promises made during the movement. He criticised the KCR-led government for running the state like a private company and said the golden Telangana dream has only enriched the ruling family.
He also targeted Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, accusing him of political opportunism, and asserted that the BJP under Prime Minister Narendra Modi is committed to providing governance based on ethics, honesty, and the true aspirations of Telangana activists.
Calling for an end to the rule of family-dominated parties, Kishan Reddy said the time has come for the BJP flag to fly high in Telangana.

‘ED aa gayi': Bhupesh Baghel posts as agency raids ex-Chhattisgarh CM's Bhilai home in connection with case against son

The Enforcement Directorate on Friday carried out new raids at the residence of Chaitanya Baghel, son of former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, as part of an ongoing money laundering investigation related to an alleged liquor scam, officials reported. Chaitanya Baghel's house in Bhilai town, which he shares with his father, is being searched by the ED under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) based on receipt of fresh evidence in the case, they said. Senior Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel later posted on X, revealing that the ED had arrived at his Bhilai residence on the final day of the assembly session. The federal investigation agency had previously conducted similar raids on Chaitanya Baghel in March of this year. The ED has alleged that a cartel of government officials, politicians, and liquor businessmen ran a scheme that illegally collected around ₹ 2,161 crore from the sale of liquor in the state between 2019 and 2022. The alleged scam involved manipulation of the liquor supply chain, where a cartel controlled the sale and distribution of alcohol through government-run shops. The agency has earlier conducted multiple raids, including on politicians and bureaucrats linked to the previous Congress-led government in Chhattisgarh. (This is a developing story.)

‘Ungaludan Stalin' an election strategy by DMK to gain votes, says Palaniswami

MAYILADUTHURAI: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami on Thursday said the 'Ungaludan Stalin' scheme, inaugurated by Chief Minister M K Stalin on Tuesday, is nothing but an election gimmick by the DMK to gain votes. Otherwise why would he (Stalin) create such a scheme just before the election and not during the entire four years the DMK was in power, Palaniswami questioned while addressing a gathering at Sirkazhi during his statewide campaign, 'Urimaiyai Meetpom Makkalai Kaapom'. He said the DMK itself 'has accepted that it has failed to mitigate people's problems' during the last four years. He said, 'Stalin went from street-to-street, house-to-house during the election, collecting petitions from people. Now, he has initiated a scheme where people can file petitions. What happened to the petitions he collected? The DMK itself has accepted that it has failed to mitigate people's issues.' Responding to Stalin's comment that the AIADMK is allying with a 'religious party' (the BJP), Palaniswami questioned Stalin: 'How is the BJP a religious party only when it allies with the AIADMK?' He held up a photograph of DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi sitting beside late BJP leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee (former PM) when they were allies.

TN fishers urge state govt to seek compensation from MSC Elsa 3 after cargo spill from sunken vessel

KANNIYAKUMARI: Fishermen from the southern districts demanded that the state government take steps to obtain compensation from the company -- whose vessel MSC Elsa 3 sank off the Kerala coast on May 25 -- for the Tamil Nadu fishermen, who were affected by the cargo spill. The fishermen made the demand, citing the Kerala government's legal action against the company that resulted in its high court recently allowing the detention of the latter's ship -- MSC Akiteta II, anchored in the Vizhinjam Port in Thiruvananthapuram. Kurumpanai C Berlin, a fishermen activist and writer, told TNIE that the cargo spill affected fishermen from several TN districts, including Kanniyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi and Ramanathapuram. "The cargo spill will affect the fishermen for years to come," he said, adding that the state should follow the actions taken by the Kerala government and get compensation for the affected fishermen. International Fishermen Development Trust (INFIDET) president P Justin Antony said that on the days following the sinking of the Liberian-flagged vessel, several containers, hauling hazardous cargo and plastic pellets, washed ashore, triggering panic among the public, especially fishermen. "The Kerala government moved its high court seeking a compensation of Rs 9,531 crore for the losses suffered, including the adverse effect on the livelihood of its fishermen," he said, urging the TN government to do the same.
