Donald Trump thanks Sean Connery as he opens his second golf course in Aberdeenshire
The US President praised First Minister John Swinney as a "terrific guy" after they met at dinner last night. Donald Trump paid tribute to the late Scots acting legend Sean Connery as he opened his new golf course in Aberdeenshire today. Speaking on the first tee, the US President made a pointed reference to the high-profile planning row in the mid-2000s which delayed the opening of Trump International Golf Links. And the Republican leader also praised First Minister John Swinney as a "terrific guy" after having dinner with him last night. Trump told invited guests and media at his Menie Estate: "I was just want to thank everybody, this has been an unbelievable development. The land, they said, couldn't get zoned, it was an impossibility. "And Sean Connery said 'let the bloody bloke build his golf course. Once he said that, everything came into line. John and I were talking about it last night." Connery reportedly said in 2008: "During tough economic times, this is a major vote of confidence in Scotland's tourist industry and our ability to rise to the challenge. I look forward to seeing a new gem in the north-east that is good for Aberdeenshire and good for Scotland.' The Edinburgh-born actor, a huge golf fan, never played the resort before his death in 2020. David Milne, a near neighbour of the Trump golf course, later said the claim that Connery helped him land planning permission for his golf resort was 'utter bollocks'. Swinney raised the situation in Gaza with Donald Trump during a meeting this morning, the Record understands. The leaders spoke for around 15 minutes, before posing together for pictures in front of a US flag and the saltire of Scotland ahead of the opening of a second course at the president's golf club in Aberdeenshire. Axed Scots Gogglebox couple release heartfelt statement as fans left gutted over exit
Gogglebox stars Roisin Kelly and Joe Kelly have been brutally dumped from the show after three and half years. Gogglebox fan favourite couple Roisin Kelly and Joe Kyle have released a heartfelt statement after they were brutally dumped from the Channel 4 show. The beloved duo, who hail from Glasgow, shocked social media on Monday evening when they announced they had been axed from the programme after three and a half years despite being one of the most popular couples among Gogglebox fans. Roisin, who celebrated her 27th birthday earlier this week, took to her social media accounts on Instagram and TikTok to announce the sad news that she and Joe, 28, had not made the cut for season 26. The pair have released an emotional joint statement following their departure. It reads: "After three and a half years of sitting on the sofa, Channel 4 have decided it's time for Joe and I to stretch our legs and have not asked us back for season 26. Therefore we are leaving the Gogglebox family. We couldn't be more grateful to Studio Lambert for the opportunity, the experience has actually been so mad and we will miss watching tv with you all on Friday nights! "It's been an honour to represent Scotland as some of the first Scottish people on the show and prove we don't actually need subtitles." She continued: "We have made friends for life and after filming every week for years you have become like our family! We could not have asked for better people to work with and we will miss you immensely. "A huge thank you to everyone who has watched us, met us and supported us during this experience, it has for sure been a once in a lifetime opportunity. "Time to watch TV in silence for a bit and put down the popcorn. Miss you already, Roisin and Joe." Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Channel 4 have now been advised by viewers that they have made a huge 'mistake' in axing the Scots couple who captured viewers hearts with their hilarious banter during their time on the show. Underneath Roisin's post on TikTok, one fan fumed: "That's a stupid decision by ch4/gogglebox! Sorry to hear this." A second chimed in: "Gutted! Their loss though." A third echoed: "Nooo you were a favourite in our house! Very stupid move from Channel 4." Roisin and Joe were the only Scottish cast members left on the show and fans have been quick to point out that Scotland is no longer being represented on the programme. One complained: "Aw man, this is s****. No Scottish voices on the show anymore! You were great." Another wrote: "Hate this! It was nice to have Scottish people and the West of Scotland sense of humour represented on TV, not worth watching anymore." A third added: "Oh no way! Typical because they are Scottish." Fans are hoping it won't be the last they'll see of Roisin and Joe on their screens and their Gogglebox axe means Roisin may now find the time to return to her podcast, Nags and Brags, which she co-hosts with pal and Clyde 1 breakfast show broadcaster, Cassi Gillespie. Nags and Brags covers a variety of subjects, from dating woes to fashion faux pas, with the show temporarily being put on hiatus while Roisin and Cassie juggled their other work commitments.
