30 booked, 1 arrested over TIPRA Motha attack on BJP supporters listening to PM Modi's Mann Ki Baat: Tripura police

After alleged TIPRA Motha men attacked BJP supporters listening to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Mann Ki Baat radio address in Tripura's Khowai district on Sunday, the police made an arrest on Monday in connection with the incident.
Speaking to reporters, Ranaditya Das, Superintendent of Police, Khowai, identified the arrested accused as Rintu Debbarma. 'We are conducting an extensive search operation to arrest all accused persons named in the FIR,' he said of the 29 others booked in the case.
The TIPRA Motha is a ruling ally of the BJP. The attack in the Asharambari area landed the tribal party in a tight spot as Chief Minister Manik Saha said his government would not tolerate political violence.
'Strongly condemn the violent & undemocratic attack by TIPRA Motha party workers during Hon'ble PM Narendra Modi Ji's #MannKiBaat programme at Asharambari. Several BJP karyakartas injured, 3 undergoing treatment at GB Hospital. I visited the hospital, instructed doctors to provide best care & directed police to take strict action against perpetrators. Such disgraceful acts won't be tolerated,' he wrote on social media after visiting Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital on Sunday night.
Describing the incident, BJP tribal leader Bipin Debbarma said that TIPRA Motha men armed with machetes and countrymade guns attacked BJP supporters and also damaged 10-15 motorcycles and two cars.
State BJP media in-charge Sunit Sarkar told reporters that the TIPRA Motha's lone minister, Animesh Debbarma, was looking into the issue, while BJP leaders were also trying to find out what led to the incident. Debbarma represents the Asharambari constituency.
For his part, TIPRA Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma said in a Facebook video on Sunday, 'I don't want political violence in Tripura. If tribals keep fighting each other in the name of flags, one day flags will be all that's left, land will be lost. You can do politics two months before elections. Till then, keep thansa (unity) as tribals. The fool thinks that money is more important than the future of our children. If anyone can do politics, they can do. Tell the truth with courage, expose what is happening in our state and whatever is wrong. But there is no point in fighting or being violent. Politely state your disagreements, if any. But why should anyone become violent? If a brother assaults another brother, then outsiders laugh at us. What are you fighting for? Some facilities, some policies…? My appeal to you is think of the future of your children. The politics of violence will not give us anything.'

Are homestays becoming trouble-spots for Goa? Minister blames ‘people from outside'

Goa Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte announced tighter enforcement on illegal tourist accommodations and updated the state's Homestay Policy to support rural women read more Multiple second residences and residential structures in Goa are being utilised for tourist stays by people from outside the state without informing the Goan authorities, state tourism minister Rohan Khaunte said in the assembly on Monday. He also stated that the Goa government is regularly monitoring lodgings offered on online travel agency (OTA) platforms to ensure they are legally registered with authorities. His statement came when BJP MLA Michael Lobo raised the matter in the House, claiming that homestays functioning in residential communities are causing difficulty for locals by attracting disruptive tourists. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Responding to the Zero Hour mention, Khaunte stated, 'Regular watch is kept on accommodations listed on OTAs. They are actively monitored.' He said, 'The government has ensured all inventory of hotel rooms, guesthouses and other stays linked with OTA platforms are registered with the tourism department.' 'Many second homes and residential buildings are being misused for tourist stays without informing the authorities. The people who come to these second homes and operate as tourist accommodations often do so without proper registration,' he added. 'The Goa government will work towards finding a sustainable solution that protects the interests of both residents and the tourism sector,' he assured the assembly. Later, addressing the reporters, Khaunte stated that the Goa government has updated its Homestay Policy to address critical difficulties confronting local people working in the hospitality business in the coastal state's rural regions. A direct grant of Rs 2 lakh will now be provided to eligible applicants to establish homestays, replacing the previous reimbursement-based model that posed financial challenges for many rural households, he said. 'The original policy required beneficiaries to invest first and claim the amount later, which was not practical for women in rural households,' he told reporters on the margins of the state assembly's ongoing monsoon session. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD 'Based on their feedback, we have made the necessary changes to ensure the policy is inclusive, accessible and truly empowering,' says Khaunte. The updated legislation would apply to homestays with one to six lettable rooms within the owner's property, particularly in rural regions, according to the ministry. 'While the registration is permitted across Goa, incentives will be limited to non-coastal, non-urban zones to ensure the policy's rural focus is preserved,' added the official. Khaunte stated that the project is profoundly founded in women's empowerment, since homestays would be administered mostly by household women. 'This is not just about adding inventory to our tourism ecosystem, it's about creating livelihood opportunities, preserving cultural heritage, and giving rural women a leadership role in community-based tourism,' he said. The tourist department will launch the application procedure for taking advantage of this program once the current assembly session ends on August 8, he added. 100 homestays will be supported under the scheme in the initial phase, the minister said. Haryana BJP asks its MLAs to adopt assembly constituencies party lost in 2024 assembly elections

Chandigarh: The Haryana BJP has asked its MLAs to adopt each assembly constituency that the party lost during the 2024 assembly elections, initiating electoral groundwork for the next assembly and general elections even as the opposition Congress remains without a full state and district executive. The new assignment comes following a meeting of Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini with Union home minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Saturday. Saini conveyed this to BJP MLAs during the meeting of the legislative party held at his camp office on Tuesday. Others who attended the meeting included state BJP president Mohan Lal Badoli, organisational secretary Phaninder Nath Sharma, and other senior leaders of state BJP and party MLAs. In the 2024 assembly elections, BJP won 48 of the 90 seats, with Congress bagging 37, independents three and INLD securing two seats. Savitiri Jindal, mother of BJP MLA from Kurukshetra, was one of the independent MLAs from Hisar. In the Lok Sabha elections, BJP lost five seats of the 10 in the state to Congress. According to party insiders, MLAs will not only adopt the non-BJP seats but also monitor the development works as well as redress grievances of residents. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Find Last Minute Holiday Bargains (Explore Offers) StartSearch | Search Ads Get Info Undo The MLAs will coordinate with the local leadership as well as party cadre.
