CM flags concern over students getting flunked in Inter exams

Hans India03-07-2025
Hyderabad: Expressing concern over increasing gap between Class 10th and Intermediate pass percentage, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has instructed the officials to take steps that every Class 10th student who joins intermediate must be passed.
The Chief Minister pointed out that the students in 10th standard are passing in large numbers. However, the same number of students could not pass out in Intermediate. He ordered the officials to identify the challenges to achieve a good pass percentage of inter students and resolve them through initiatives.
At a review of the Education department here on Wednesday, the CM said that since the intermediate stage is crucial for the students to make their career, proper guidance should be given to the students during the period. Officials briefed the CM that dropouts are less in some states where 9th to 12th standard education system is implemented. The Chief Minister instructed the officials to conduct a study and submit a comprehensive report on running the schools up to 12th standard and separate intermediate.
Revanth Reddy suggested to the officials to seek the advice of the Education Commission, NGOs working in the education sector, and civil society. 'We will discuss the improvement of intermediate education at all stages in the Legislative Assembly', the Chief Minister said, adding that more attention should be paid to the enrolment of students in intermediate as well as their attendance.
Reviewing the designs and models of the Young India Residential School buildings, the CM suggested that a huge national flag be installed in the premises of every school and also instructed the officials to submit a weekly report to him on the progress of the construction of the schools. The Young India Residential Schools will be constructed exclusively for boys and girls in every Assembly constituency. Since the land acquisition for each school has already been completed, the CM directed that the focus should be on the identification and acquisition process for the second school. Revanth Reddy also reviewed the construction model of Veeranari Chakali Ilamma Mahila Vishwa Vidyalayam (Women's University) and suggested several changes. The CM ordered that the tender process be completed at the earliest.

Hyderabad has wherewithal to host 2036 Olympics: CM

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday affirmed his overwhelming commitment to promote sports and assured appropriate budget allocations to help Telangana emerge as a vibrant hub for all aspiring sportspersons. Following India's bid to host the 2036 Olympics, he pointed out that Hyderabad not only has the wherewithal to host the mother of all sporting events, but it would also be extended all-round support to help secure the maximum medals for India. The Chief Minister, who unveiled a new state sports policy during the sports conclave at HICC, emphasised that the decision to come up with the new policy was arrived at after in-depth deliberations. Moreover, there was no sports policy until now, a lacuna that the Congress government wanted to rectify and provide platforms to all budding athletes. 'The youth is going astray in the absence of a sports policy. In recent times, drug and marijuana cases have increased significantly in Telangana. We have formed Eagle Force to control drugs and marijuana. There is a danger that many youngsters may turn into addicts. We are bringing a sports policy so that sportspersons from Telangana can compete with the world and win laurels for the country. To reduce political interference in sports, there will be a sports policy in public and private partnership, involving experts from diverse fields as stakeholders. The state government plays a limited role in this matter,' he explained. Accusing the BRS regime of converting sports grounds into function halls, Revanth Reddy recalled how the national football team that finished fourth in the 1956 Olympics at Melbourne boasted of nine players from Hyderabad. 'Many players like Mohd Azharuddin, VVS Laxman, Ravikanth Reddy, Siraj, Nikat Zareen and Deepti represent Telangana. We have sent a clear message that the state government recognises not only academics but also excellence in sports. Owing to the negligence of the previous government, sports grounds have become function halls. They have become venues for events and sunburn parties,' he said.

CM unveils T sports policy, says will bring youth back to ground

Hyderabad: In a big fillip to the sport in the state, chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday unveiled the sports policy, which he said would put the youth on the right track. The CM felt the new sports policy would bring back the sporting glory the city enjoyed in the past. "Hyderabad has a rich history of sports. Nine of the Indian football team that finished fourth in the 1954 Olympics were from Hyderabad. But the state lost track later and the sport was neglected in the last 10-15 years without proper policy. The youth, who played a crucial part in achieving a separate state, are now addicted to drugs. We plan to bring them back to the grounds with the new policy," Revanth Reddy said, addressing the sporting fraternity at the 1st Telangana Sports Conclave at HICC, Izzatnagar. He also sounded a warning that the state has declared a war on drug mafia and no one would be spared in this regard. Revanth said the "sports policy will not be a mere paper as the govt is dedicated to implement it to the letter and will go the distance in supporting athletes to achieve their dreams". "Our govt is committed to promoting sports. We have shown our commitment by giving Group I posts and plots to cricketer Mohammed Siraj and boxer Nikhat Zareen. Our govt policy is clear. We have formed committees with former athletes and administrators. There will be no influence from the govt," he added. He further revealed that they offered to host Khelo India games and also plan to hold two disciplines if India gets to host the 2036 Olympics. "We will have a dedicated sports university and sports academy. Our aim is to see India as a sporting nation and, as a part of our Telangana Rising Vision 2047, a chapter will be dedicated to sports. There was no budget for sports till now. We will have dedicated budget for the betterment of the sport," he added. MoUs with foreign universities During the one-day conclave, the state govt signed memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with two foreign universities — Korea National Sports University in Seoul, South Korea, and Loughborough University based in Loughborough and London. The proposed sports university, to be run from Gachibowli for now, would share academic knowledge, curriculum, coaches training programmes, academic research and project collaboration. The govt has also signed MoUs with Olympic bronze medal winning shooter Gagan Narang's Gun For Glory, Abhinav Bindra's Sports Academy and FIFA to establish a FIFA Talent Academy in the state. They also signed MoUs with Anil Kumble's Tenvic, which will help them scout talent in 1,000 residential schools with 50 of them being centres of excellence (CoEs), Olympic Values Education Programme and Aspire for Her. Narang, Bindra and Pullela Gopichand would also conduct shooting, sports science and badminton mentorship programmes respectively. Incentives to athletes The CM also handed over cash incentives to athletes who had done the state proud by winning medals. Athlete Agasara Nandini, who won a gold in heptathlon at the 26th Asian athletics championship in South Korea received Rs 5 lakh, while gymnast Nishika Agarwal, who won a bronze in vault event, was rewarded with Rs 3 lakh. Differently-abled shooter Dhanush Srikanth was given a cheque for Rs 10 lakh for winning two gold medals in men and mixed team event at the World Deaf shooting championships last year. Goalball athletes Pavan Kalyan, P Sai Teja and coach G Shiva Kumar were given Rs 4.8 lakh. Panel to oversee Sports University Special chief secretary, sports, Jayesh Ranjan revealed that "the sports policy is inclusive, with focus on grassroots and schools to identify the talent and nurture it through proper system". Around 50 residential schools will have a centre of excellence (CoE) with top-class coaches and athletes would be provided with a proper ecosystem. To oversee the whole process and run the world-class sports academy, a governing council with 15 prominent personalities has been formed. With Sanjeev Goenka as chairman and Upasana Kamineni as the co-chairperson, the panel would have the likes of BV Papa Rao, Kapil Dev, Abhinav Bindra, Pullela Gopichand, Baichung Bhutia, Ravikanth Reddy, Vita Dani, Kavya Maran and C Shashidhar, with Jayesh Ranjan and Sports Authority of Telangana chairman Shiva Sena Reddy as govt representatives.
