Union home minister Amit Shah on Monday slammed the Congress-led Opposition for refusing to trust external affairs minister S Jaishankar's statement on the diplomatic issues involving Operation Sindoor, noting that it is the reason why the 'Opposition would remain where they are for the next 20 years'. Union home minister Amit Shah on Monday slammed the Congress-led Opposition for refusing to trust external affairs minister S Jaishankar's statement on the diplomatic issues involving Operation Sindoor (PTI)
Shah, who is scheduled to speak on Operation Sindoor in Lok Sabha on Tuesday, twice intervened to seek Speaker Om Birla's help after some Opposition leaders interrupted Jaishankar and challenged his statements.
The first time protests erupted in the Congress benches was when Jaishankar brought mentioned how China was given the status of strategic partner during the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government.
He also quipped about how China was providing staples to people in Arunachal Pradesh even as Opposition leaders visited the neighbouring country to attend the Olympics. 'I did not go to China for secret agreements or to see the Olympics,' he added.
Amid the Congress's protest, Shah said, 'When such an important issue is being discussed, and the EAM is speaking, does it look nice that the Opposition is disturbing him? Speaker sir, you should make them understand or else we will also not be able to make our members understand anything later...'
During his speech, Jaishankar noted there was no mention of trade between India and the United States during the hostilities with Pakistan, further saying that US President Donald Trump played no role in ending the military conflict.
When the Opposition again began shouting, questioning Jaishankar's claims, Shah intervened.
'I object to one thing, while India's external affairs minister, who has taken an oath, is speaking, they choose to believe someone from another country instead,' he said. ' I understand the importance of 'foreign countries' in their (Congress) party, but I urge them to keep that preference confined to their party. It is precisely because of this attitude that they are sitting in the Opposition today, and they will continue to sit there for the next 20 years.'

CM unveils T sports policy, says will bring youth back to ground

Hyderabad: In a big fillip to the sport in the state, chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday unveiled the sports policy, which he said would put the youth on the right track. The CM felt the new sports policy would bring back the sporting glory the city enjoyed in the past. "Hyderabad has a rich history of sports. Nine of the Indian football team that finished fourth in the 1954 Olympics were from Hyderabad. But the state lost track later and the sport was neglected in the last 10-15 years without proper policy. The youth, who played a crucial part in achieving a separate state, are now addicted to drugs. We plan to bring them back to the grounds with the new policy," Revanth Reddy said, addressing the sporting fraternity at the 1st Telangana Sports Conclave at HICC, Izzatnagar. He also sounded a warning that the state has declared a war on drug mafia and no one would be spared in this regard. Revanth said the "sports policy will not be a mere paper as the govt is dedicated to implement it to the letter and will go the distance in supporting athletes to achieve their dreams". "Our govt is committed to promoting sports. We have shown our commitment by giving Group I posts and plots to cricketer Mohammed Siraj and boxer Nikhat Zareen. Our govt policy is clear. He further revealed that they offered to host Khelo India games and also plan to hold two disciplines if India gets to host the 2036 Olympics. "We will have a dedicated sports university and sports academy. Our aim is to see India as a sporting nation and, as a part of our Telangana Rising Vision 2047, a chapter will be dedicated to sports. There was no budget for sports till now. We will have dedicated budget for the betterment of the sport," he added. MoUs with foreign universities During the one-day conclave, the state govt signed memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with two foreign universities — Korea National Sports University in Seoul, South Korea, and Loughborough University based in Loughborough and London.
