WhatsApp is finally bringing document scanning feature on Android but only for these users
WhatsApp is now bringing a new capability for its Android beta testers that allows them to scan documents directly from the app, a feature that has been available to the app's iOS users for the past several months. The new feature ends the need to rely on third-party document scanners as WhatsApp itself creates images into documents that can be shared with different contacts.
With the new feature, WhatsApp will bring a more streamlined document-sharing experience to its users by allowing them to seamlessly scan, convert and share documents in PDF format, reducing the hassle of switching between different apps.
The feature was first spotted in WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.25.18.29, where it remained inactive owing to being still under development.
However, the feature is now seemingly being rolled out to beta testers at large, with many users reporting gaining access to the new feature after installing the latest update from the Google Play Store.
After the latest update, a new 'Scan Document' option now appears alongside the current 'Browse Documents' and 'Choose from gallery' options in the attachment menu. Clicking on the new option will open your Android device's camera and prompt users to click images for document sharing.
Notably, WhatsApp also allows users to position their phone correctly for document sharing by giving them manual and automatic options. Under the manual option, users can take control over which parts they want selected for document scanning, while in automatic mode, WhatsApp detects the edges of the document in order to provide an instantaneous document-sharing experience.
In other related news, WhatsApp also rolled out a new AI-powered feature earlier this week that summarises personal chats of users. The Meta AI-backed feature allows the personal messaging app to create a bullet-point summary of chats in order to provide users with a general idea of what the conversation is about before diving further.

Advanced filtering and search capabilities, along with comprehensive metadata and mobile-optimised data tables, are also available for seamless viewing. The app's visual data storytelling capabilities include a curated infographics section that transforms complex statistics into digestible insights, interactive charts and graphs with contextual explanations, social sharing features to promote data literacy across communities, and complete source attribution for each visualisation following principles of transparency and trust. A comprehensive publication section provides users with access to NSO reports and publications with instant download functionality. Regular updates, aligned with the NSO's publication calendar, are provided to the user through an app notification facility. A feedback mechanism for continuous app improvement, a user-friendly interface, and direct communication channels through the 'Contact Us' section are some of the features designed to empower users. The Android version of the mobile application is currently available for free on the Google Play Store. The iOS version will be released shortly. SBI readies introduction of revamped digi platform
Mumbai: State Bank of India (SBI) is set to undergo a digital transformation in FY26, led by the launch of a revamped Yono platform. Dubbed 'Only Yono', the new app will feature hyper-personalised user journeys and have biometric logins and multilingual support. The bank is also expanding paperless account opening through video KYC for sole proprietorship businesses, scaling its digital kisan credit card journey to five more states, and introducing facial recognition in kiosk banking. Over 3,000 Swayam (pass book printing) kiosks-including 1,000 with auto-flip features-will be deployed. SBI's marketing technology platform, powered by AI and integrated across SMS, WhatsApp, and email, will be fully rolled out by Oct 2025 and will send messages based on customer behaviour. The bank is also developing a real-time analytics system, or Data Lakehouse, by Sept 2026 and revamping its agri loan management system and trade finance processes.
