Strict action if negligence found in tiger deaths: Forest Minister
Responding to protests by BJP leaders at the Gandhi statue on Monday over the reclamation of this forest land, the minister made it clear that forest land cannot be allocated or approved for non-forest purposes without mandatory permissions from the Central Government and the Supreme Court.
He clarified that Survey No. 1 in Kadugodi Plantation, located in Bidarahalli Hobli of Bengaluru East Taluk, spans 711 acres and was designated for sandalwood plantation in 1896. Later, in 1901, it was officially notified as reserve forest land under the Forest Rules of 1900. 'Any diversion of forest land for non-forest purposes without prior approval is strictly prohibited under central forest conservation laws and reinforced by Supreme Court rulings,' he stated.
On the issue of the five unnatural tiger deaths in the Hoogyam forest range, Minister Khandre assured that suspects have already been arrested and legal proceedings are underway. 'If any negligence by forest officials is identified in the investigation, strict disciplinary action will be taken,' he declared.

Mumbai court acquits Nawab Malik in 2021 defamation case after BJP functionary Kamboj withdraws complaint
Mumbai: A magistrate's court on Monday closed defamatory proceedings against former Maharashtra minister and NCP leader Nawab Malik and acquitted him after BJP functionary Mohit Kamboj withdrew his complaint while expressing his inability to attend the court daily. Chief Judicial Magistrate, First Class (Mazgaon court), A A Kulkarni accepted Kamboj's plea to withdraw the case under section 257 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC). "The accused stands acquitted of the offence under IPC section 500 (defamation) and the proceeding is hereby closed," the court ruled. CrPC Section 257 allows a complainant to withdraw their complaint before a final order is passed by the magistrate, provided they satisfy the magistrate that there are sufficient grounds for the withdrawal. If the magistrate permits the withdrawal, the accused is acquitted. Wrestler Vinesh Phogat gives birth to baby boy
Former World Championship medallist Vinesh Phogat gave birth to a boy at a private hospital in Delhi on Tuesday morning. He is the first child of the 30-year-old Julana MLA and wrestler Somvir Rathee. 'Vinesh gave birth to a baby boy this morning at a private hospital in Delhi. Both Vinesh and the baby are fine. It's the biggest joy for the whole family,' Harvinder Phogat, Vinesh's elder brother, told The Indian Express. Vinesh had announced her pregnancy in March on her social media accounts.
