Strict action if negligence found in tiger deaths: Forest Minister
Responding to protests by BJP leaders at the Gandhi statue on Monday over the reclamation of this forest land, the minister made it clear that forest land cannot be allocated or approved for non-forest purposes without mandatory permissions from the Central Government and the Supreme Court.
He clarified that Survey No. 1 in Kadugodi Plantation, located in Bidarahalli Hobli of Bengaluru East Taluk, spans 711 acres and was designated for sandalwood plantation in 1896. Later, in 1901, it was officially notified as reserve forest land under the Forest Rules of 1900. 'Any diversion of forest land for non-forest purposes without prior approval is strictly prohibited under central forest conservation laws and reinforced by Supreme Court rulings,' he stated.
On the issue of the five unnatural tiger deaths in the Hoogyam forest range, Minister Khandre assured that suspects have already been arrested and legal proceedings are underway. 'If any negligence by forest officials is identified in the investigation, strict disciplinary action will be taken,' he declared.

Mumbai court acquits Nawab Malik in 2021 defamation case after BJP functionary Kamboj withdraws complaint
Mumbai: A magistrate's court on Monday closed defamatory proceedings against former Maharashtra minister and NCP leader Nawab Malik and acquitted him after BJP functionary Mohit Kamboj withdrew his complaint while expressing his inability to attend the court daily. Chief Judicial Magistrate, First Class (Mazgaon court), A A Kulkarni accepted Kamboj's plea to withdraw the case under section 257 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC). "The accused stands acquitted of the offence under IPC section 500 (defamation) and the proceeding is hereby closed," the court ruled. CrPC Section 257 allows a complainant to withdraw their complaint before a final order is passed by the magistrate, provided they satisfy the magistrate that there are sufficient grounds for the withdrawal. If the magistrate permits the withdrawal, the accused is acquitted. "I have voluntarily decided to withdraw the case, and no undue pressure or coercion has been exerted upon me in this regard." Kamboj had filed a complaint before the magistrate's court claiming Malik, in a press conference held on Oct 9, 2021, on the NCB raid on a cruise ship "purposefully and intentionally defamed" him and his brother-in-law Rishab Sachdev. Kamboj had accused Malik of grossly misusing his dominant position to defame him and his family with highly speculative statements without any evidence to substantiate his malicious claims. He had sought action against Malik for allegedly committing offences under IPC sections 499 and 500. Malik had repeatedly termed the cruise drugs case as "fake" and levelled several allegations against NCB's then Mumbai zonal director Sameer Wankhede, who has denied the charges. Wrestler Vinesh Phogat gives birth to baby boy
Former World Championship medallist Vinesh Phogat gave birth to a boy at a private hospital in Delhi on Tuesday morning. He is the first child of the 30-year-old Julana MLA and wrestler Somvir Rathee. 'Vinesh gave birth to a baby boy this morning at a private hospital in Delhi. Both Vinesh and the baby are fine. It's the biggest joy for the whole family,' Harvinder Phogat, Vinesh's elder brother, told The Indian Express. Vinesh had announced her pregnancy in March on her social media accounts. 'Our love story continues with a new chapter,' she had posted along with emojis of a foot and a heart, suggesting that the couple was expecting a child. Harvinder added that the mother and child will be back at Somvir's home soon. 'Vinesh will be back home in a couple of days and we all will visit her after that. The whole of Balali is waiting to welcome Vinesh and her son,' he added. Vinesh, who was disqualified for exceeding the weight limit just hours before contesting the women's 50kg freestyle wrestling final at last year's Paris Olympics, had announced her retirement from the sport soon after the setback, but kept her options open about returning to the mat. 'I just want to say that missing the Olympic medal is the biggest wound in my life. I don't know how much time it would have taken to heal this wound. But as I got love from my fellow Indians, my village and my family members, I guess I would get some courage to make this wound heal. Maybe, I could return to wrestling. I don't know if I would pursue wrestling or not but the kind of courage I got today, I want to use that in the right direction. Our fight has not ended and the fight will continue and I pray to god that the truth will prevail,' Phogat had said while addressing villagers at the village Balali on her return post the Olympics. In September last year, she joined the Indian National Congress and later contested from the Julana constituency in the Haryana Assembly elections, defeating BJP's Yogesh Kumar by 6,015 votes. Haryana congress leader Kumari Selja too congratulated the Julana MLA. 'Hearty congratulations and best wishes to Congress MLA from Julana, Mrs. @Phogat_Vinesh ji on the birth of a son. I pray to God that the newborn baby brings joy and prosperity to the family and that both of you remain healthy and happy.' Selja posted on X. Vinesh was also the face of the protests against then Wrestling Federation of India president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who was accused of sexual harassment of women wrestlers.
