There's a lot of hype surrounding the much-anticipated matchup between the Minnesota Lynx and the Indiana Fever on Tuesday night. These two teams will go head-to-head in a winner-take-all clash for the right to become the 2025 Commissioner's Cup champions.

Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve has added to the buzz by sending a strong message ahead of her team's quest to defend their Commissioner's Cup title. The veteran shot-caller revealed how much her players are looking forward to this game.
"I'm really happy for the players," Reeve said. "They are excited to play in this game, as I'm sure Indy is as well.
"We've said this before winning the Cup, it's hardware. And money, right? So when there's money on the line and, they've talked about they're going to make more money in a Commissioner's Cup game than what they will in a deep playoff run.
"And so this is really meaningful to them, especially some of our younger players. And the veterans are very aware of the meaning of that."

The Lynx clearly have no shortage of motivation in this one. As Reeve touched on in her statement, the $500,000 prize money is something that has inspired her players. At the same time, winning a championship means everything to them as well.

"What's it mean? You want it," she continued. "You want it whatever the name of the championship, whatever it is, call it whatever kind of cup, whatever its championship, you want the hardware. This would be a feather in the cap for this team."
There is no doubt that the Fever are pretty much in the same boat in terms of their desire to bring home the trophy.
The big question, however, is whether Caitlin Clark will be able to play. The 23-year-old, who has missed Indiana's last two games due to a groin injury, has officially been listed as questionable for Tuesday's clash.

Former LSU star Angel Reese named player of the week after historic run

Following a record-setting weekend, former LSU women's basketball All-American Angel Reese was named the WNBA's Eastern Conference player of the week on Tuesday. Reese led the Chicago to a come-from-behind victory on Sunday and a 2-1 record last week. In the process, she became the first player in league history with 15 or more rebounds in four straight games. Reese pulled down 16 boards to go along with a season-high 24 points in the 92-85 win over the Los Angeles Sparks. The six-foot-three forward now has four straight double-doubles, and she eclipsed a season-high 19 rebounds last week. Reese is averaging 12.4 points and 12.6 rebounds per game in her second WNBA season. Reese and the Sky rank last in the Eastern Conference, two spots behind Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever. A young core with Reese and fellow former Tiger Hailey Van Lith is close to climbing back into playoff contention. The Sky's next game is against the WNBA's top team in the Minnesota Lynx.

Fever guard Sophie Cunningham unimpressed by WNBA expansion cities. Athletes, owner respond

MINNEAPOLIS — Sophie Cunningham ignited an interstate war with her comments ahead of Tuesday's Commissioner's Cup championship game against the Lynx, questioning why the WNBA would expand to cities like Cleveland and Detroit. 'You want to listen to your players,' the Indiana Fever guard told reporters. 'Where do they want to play? Where are they going to get excited to play and draw fans?" Cunningham's comments, posted to social media by Yahoo! Sports, were in response to a question about the WNBA's recently announced plans to add franchises in Cleveland, Detroit and Philadelphia by 2030. Cunningham, who began her response by citing the importance of creating new opportunities for players, provided a few other options: 'Miami would have been a great one. Everyone loves Florida. Nashville is an amazing city. Kansas City, amazing opportunity. There's a huge arena downtown (Sprint Center) that no one's using. And I think the women's soccer league (in Kansas City) is showing that people draw.' Cunningham noted the league needs to make sure it's not expanding too quickly, then concluded her comments by saying: 'You don't want teams to totally dominate then have teams that aren't. It's a hard situation, but I don't know how excited people are to go to Detroit or (Cleveland).' As you can imagine, that bit of commentary — specifically toward the beginning and end of the clip — have created quite the stir on social media, with the two targeted cities weighing in. The City of Detroit (@CityofDetroit) quote tweeted the video and wrote: 'The last time we were home to a WNBA team (Detroit Shock) we ranked top five in attendance for five straight seasons, No. 1 in attendance for three straight seasons and set a single-game attendance record of 22,076 fans at Game 3 of the 2003 WNBA Finals. Additionally more than 775,000 people were excited to come to Detroit for the 2024 NFL draft. Detroit is a sports town. We're sure we'll see the same excitement for the WNBA returning.' The admins behind City of Cleveland (@CityofCleveland) were a bit more direct in their response, including a video of one Caitlin Clark singing the city's praises during the 2024 Final Four. 'Sophie, your teammate doesn't seem to think Cleveland is too bad!' they wrote. 'We're proud to have been chosen to host a WNBA team and any player who comes here will feel that legendary passion Cleveland sports fans show our teams!' Doyel: Caitlin Clark, Fever are rising all boats. So why are WNBA players so intent on sinking them? It is unclear if or when Kansas City will come to the defense of Cunningham, a Missouri native and proud University of Missouri graduate, but we will continue to monitor the situation. Meanwhile, other professional athletes, owners and others took issue with Cunningham's comments.
