Thought the 1,578bhp, bewinged Jesko Attack was as extreme as road-legal Koenigseggs could get? Christian von Koenigsegg begs to differ, because here is the new Sadair's Spear, a lighter, more powerful, more downforce-y and therefore more track-focused take on Koenigsegg's hypercar, designed to wreak havoc on your concept of fast and rearrange your internal organs.
First, that name. You may recall the Jesko was named after Christian's father for his 80th birthday, to say thanks for his help with the company in its early years. Beats a pair of socks. You probably didn't know Jesko was a keen jockey, nor the name of the horse he rode in his final race in 1976. Yep, Sadair's Spear.

The engine is familiar from the Jesko – a 5.0-litre twin-turbo V8, connected to Koenigsegg's nine-speed Lightspeed transmission, that does without a flywheel so it revs to its 8.500rpm redline like a superbike in 0.2s. Here, revised engine calibration, redesigned air intakes and improved cooling means peak power climbs by 25bhp to 1,603bhp on E85 (1,282bhp on regular unleaded).
No word on acceleration or top speed figures (the Jesko has a theoretical top speed north of 300mph), only that during its shakedown it smashed the Gotland Ring lap record by 1.1 seconds. Previous record holder? The Jesko Attack.
Improved aero has a big part to play in that. The active top-mounted 'double-blade' rear wing combines with a stretched rear end design for more downforce and stability. That's balanced with larger canards, louvres and hood vents at the front. New seven-spoke turbine blade Aircore carbon-fibre wheels are specific to the Sadair's Spear and wrapped in even wider track-focused tyres.
The carbon-ceramic brakes get upgraded pad materials, while the self-levelling suspension features lighter springs – part of a total 35kg weight-saving package that includes losing 2.6kg of sound deadening, unique carbon-fibre seats and other lightweight interior components.

If you love faffing around before going anywhere you can option six-point harnesses instead of normal seatbelts, but this isn't a fully stripped-out race car - you still get the wheel mounted digital instrument cluster, a stereo, and wireless charging for your phone.
'Sadair's Spear represents a natural progression for Koenigsegg - an impeccable balance of raw power, refined aerodynamics, and extraordinary road presence,' said Christian von Koenigsegg. 'This car is destined to set records. Achieving such track dominance in a fully road-legal vehicle is nothing short of remarkable.'
The Sadair's Spear is limited to just 30 cars, and each one cost £3.8m... all of which sold out instantly when Koenigsegg gave its most loyal customers a private viewing. Better luck next time.

Retro Swedish Railcar back on track at Nene Valley Railway

A Swedish Railcar is on track to be re-entered into service after an extensive Nene Valley Railway (NVR) in Peterborough said the diesel mechanical railbuses, built in 1958, would be open for passengers to ride on 9 July. The retro-looking vehicle is made up of two carriages - a 1212 Motor Car and 1987 Trailer Car - which have been affectionately nicknamed Helga and were built for the Swedish State Railways and are thought to be the only Swedish railcar operating in the UK, according to the NVR. The 1987 had been in a heritage railway collection in Arvdsjaur, Northern Sweden, after it was withdrawn from service in the was bought in 2016 and shipped over to the NVR. A spokesperson from the railway said: "Covid delayed the restoration but it entered service in May 2022. "The 1212 was purchased and shipped to the UK, entering service on the NVR in 1984."Its owner died in 1989 and the 1212 was sold to Fleggburgh in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, where it remained out of action and under cover before being used as a picnic coach at Tweedle Farm in Hartlepool. 'Helga and Hagar' In 2011, the 1987 was bought and transferred back to the NVR before it entered service again in 2012. A spokesperson added: "The railcar has been out of service for about a year-and-a-half whilst it has been having a new roof fitted and new paint work."We are re-entering the railcar in to service on 9 July for passengers to ride in true Swedish style... It has two carriages that have been nicknamed Helga and Hagar."They added it was the only Swedish Railcar operating in the first departure will be from Wansford at10:00 BST. The Pre-Owned Supercar Market Should Fear The 2025 Corvette ZR1

No other car can truly touch the Corvette ZR1 The C8 generation of the Chevrolet Corvette has been a marvel of American engineering since its inception in 2020, where, for the first time ever, the Corvette switched to a mid-engine layout. With this controversial move, the team behind the Corvette has been able to achieve performance figures from the legendary American sports car that were once completely unimaginable, and the 2025 Corvette ZR1 takes things to an even further extreme. Previous Pause Next Unmute 0:00 / 0:10 Full screen Thinking about buying a Toyota RAV4? These 5 rivals might change your mind Watch More You'd think that its astounding performance figures would be the main highlight of the supercar's attributes, with its twin-turbocharged, 5.5-liter flat-plane crankshaft V8 pumping out 1,064 horsepower, but what makes the C8 ZR1's performance so remarkably impressive is how surprisingly attainable it is. With a price tag ranging from $178,195 to $199,195, the C8 Corvette ZR1 offers more power than a Lamborghini Revuelto for less than a third of the price. 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 — Source: Chevrolet The Corvette ZR1's power figures on their own don't tell the whole story, either. The ZR1 has been claiming accolades left and right, managing to achieve a top speed of 233 miles per hour, a 0-60 mph sprint time in just 2.3 seconds, and breaking production car lap times at five different American race tracks, including Watkins Glen Long Course, Road America, Road Atlanta, Virginia International Raceway Full Course, and the Virginia International Raceway Grand Course. That means for under $200k USD, you can have a sports car that accelerates faster than a $2.1 million McLaren W1 and has a higher top speed than a $2.5 million Pagani Utopia. So, since high-end exotic car manufacturers are surely beginning to fear the new Corvette ZR1, if they don't already, we can't help but wonder what effect the disruptive nature of the C8 ZR1 will have on the pre-owned supercar market. Can we expect to see resale values of high-end supercars disrupted by the appeal of a brand-new ZR1? Let's take a look. Lamborghini Huracan Spyder — Source: Michael Austin Are pre-owned supercar values vastly overinflated? Compared to other brand-new supercars with similar performance figures, the C8 Corvette ZR1 already offers more performance for a small fraction of the price. You might expect, then, that the pre-owned supercar market would contain options that tighten that gap, but the concerning reality is that, when you look at used options around the same price point as the all-new Corvette ZR1, most of them seem to fall short. You may unsubscribe from email communication at anytime. For example, this 2017 Lamborghini Huracan Spyder is listed on DuPont Registry for $209,980. Even if we disregard the relatively yawn-worthy white-on-black specification, this seems like a ridiculously sad way to spend upwards of $200,000 when you could have a brand new ZR1 instead. Not only is the Huracan above an 8-year-old vehicle with 18,000 miles, it also has almost 500 fewer horsepower, and costs even more than the ZR1. Sure, we're comparing a Lamborghini to a Chevrolet here, but I'm willing to bet that if you removed the badges from both and went for a cruise around Miami, the Corvette ZR1 would attract more attention. McLaren 570S — Source: McLaren If we look at alternative pre-owned options from other supercar manufacturers, we see a similar story. You might think that with its vast performance capabilities, the C8 ZR1's price might match that of a used McLaren 720S or a pre-owned Ferrari 488, but that's simply not the case. While it's true that you might be able to find a well-broken-in McLaren 720S for just a smidge under 200 grand, the most commonly found pre-owned sub-$200k McLaren is the 570S, with clean 570S Spiders like this one sitting at around $175,000. Even still, the 570S offers just 562 horsepower, a 3.2-second 0-60 mph time, and a 204 mph top speed, thus falling short of the C8 ZR1 in nearly every metric. It's a similar story when we look at pre-owned Ferraris. Look for one just under 200 grand, and you'll likely find yourself in a four-year-old, 612-horsepower Roma, or a fifteen-year-old 458 Italia. Admittedly, it'll be a tough challenge to match the prestige and luxury of a Ferrari with a Corvette, but if it's performance and flash that you're after, the C8 ZR1 just offers so much more. 2025 Corvette ZR1 — Source: Chevrolet Looking at things the other way around, let's consider what it might take to achieve similar performance to the brand-new C8 ZR1 with a pre-owned supercar. Perhaps the easiest solution to guarantee the destruction of a C8 ZR1 on a drag strip would be to slap a twin-turbocharger kit onto a V10-powered Lamborghini Huracan. AMS Performance offers an Alpha 20 Twin Turbo Package for the Huracan, which boosts the Lambo's power figures to over 2,000 horsepower, and can bring the supercar's 0-60 sprint time beneath the two-second threshold. However, doing so will cost you as much as $274,995.95, according to AMS Performance's website, meaning you'll need to drop more than the cost of an actual Huracan into your Huracan just to be able to beat the $200,000 C8 ZR1. 2025 Corvette ZR1 — Source: Chevrolet Final thoughts What all of this speculation really highlights is how ridiculously aggressive the C8 Corvette ZR1's performance value proposition really is. There really is nothing else like it for the money, whether you're looking at something new or used, and the development of the all-new ZR1 truly is a remarkable achievement for Chevrolet and General Motors. What's even more wild is the fact that the ZR1 isn't even the wildest variant of the C8 Corvette, with the recently revealed ZR1X taking that cake by slapping a hybrid system and four-wheel drive on top of the ZR1. All of that allows for a combined total of 1,250 horsepower, a 0-60 time under two seconds, and an expected price tag of around $250,000. Blade Silver 2026 Corvette ZR1X and Sebring Orange Tintcoat 2026 Corvette ZR1X Convertible with ZTK Performance Package — Source: Chevrolet Will pre-owned supercars like the Lamborghini Huracan, McLaren 570S, and Ferrari Roma take a noticeable dive in value now that buyers can directly compare them to the predictably much lower-maintenance and brand-new Corvette ZR1? Only time will tell, but for now we can be certain that the C8-generation Corvette ZR1 not only continues the model's legacy of disrupting the high-end performance segment of the automotive industry, but greatly enhances it, challenging the astronomical price tags charged by exotic European supercar manufacturers by offering so much more for so much less. If you've got $200,000 to spend on a performance car, look no further than the 2025 Corvette ZR1. About the Author Cole Attisha View Profile

Five Crazy Features of the Concept AMG GT XX We Hope Make It To Production

A plethora of techy features Sure, a 1,341-horsepower super sedan from one of the most storied brands on Earth is exciting, but there's more to the cool concept than a slick spec sheet with larger-than-life numbers. Affalterbach says that the Concept AMG GT XX 'offers insight into the first series-production model based on high-performance architecture.' Hopefully, some of the coolest features don't get left on the cutting room floor. Previous Pause Next Unmute 0:00 / 0:09 Full screen 2024 Kia EV6 GT-Line review: Is this the EV that will convert you? Watch More 'World first' Aero wheels Turbofan wheel covers have been around since the 1970s, but Mercedes claims the patented design appearing on the Concept AMG GT XX is a world first. The blades comprising the turbofan cover are repositionable and react to different situations as dictated by the car's control units. Like a traditional turbofan cover, they can sit flush with the wheel to reduce drag; however, when required for enhanced brake cooling, the blades open to increase airflow. The actuators adjusting the fans are attached to each wheel, fully autonomous, and use the wheel itself as a power source. Benz says the battery on each is good to store enough energy for 200 blade movements. Mercedes-AMG CONCEPT AMG GT XX — Source: Mercedes-Benz Taillights and light bar Around back, the Concept AMG GT XX continues to put on a masterclass in techno wizardry. The light panel comprises more than 700 individual LEDs and can even display vehicle status info like charging progress. Even the taillights themselves, which are fairly straightforward circular lights in groupings of three, are something we hope to see more of. The panel housing the lights is actually slightly recessed, giving the lights an extra sense of depth. The deceptively simple lights are a nice slice of retro-futurism — and good design — that we would love to see MB include in their upcoming cars. Mercedes-AMG CONCEPT AMG GT XX — Source: Mercedes-Benz Carbon fiber bucket seats What radical concept car is complete without a set of uber-aggressive carbon fiber-backed bucket seats? The Concept AMG GT XX isn't the first, nor will it be the last, but we're still suckers for an excellent pair of thrones. The front two buckets are based on race seats and feature swappable seat pads, similar to driver changes in endurance racing. The seat pads are also 3D printed, which makes us think there's actually a possibility of production in their future. Perhaps cooler — and less production-ready — are the rear bucket seats, a feature BMW pioneered in the F90 M5 CS. Benz says they're integrated into the car's rear bulkhead, cushions, and all. So, no hot swapping there. Autoblog Newsletter Autoblog brings you car news; expert reviews and exciting pictures and video. Research and compare vehicles, too. You may unsubscribe from email communication at anytime. Mercedes-AMG CONCEPT AMG GT XX — Source: Mercedes-Benz Unique flooring The Concept AMG GT XX, notably, has no headliner, leaving the carbon fiber roof exposed for all to see. You don't have to look up to be amazed; you can also look down at the floor. You'll notice a racing-inspired checkered flag design that's made of 100 percent recycled materials. I'm a big fan of working in checkered flag designs where you least expect it — like BMW and its F87 M2 CS's carbon fiber roof — and I'm really hoping Mercedes-Benz pursues this line of design. Name another car with a checkered flag design on the floor. I'll wait. Mercedes-AMG CONCEPT AMG GT XX — Source: Mercedes-Benz Luminescent paint The bright orange paint on the Concept AMG GT XX is eye-catching, but even more interestingly, it's luminescent, essentially translating to glow-in-the-dark. The paint emits light in response to an electrical current, allowing it to glow bright even when the lights go out. MB dubs it 'MBUX Fluid Light Paint,' and you may have already seen it in action, since the manufacturer used the same paint on a GT3 race car at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring. Mercedes isn't the only one working on this, so we expect to see this kind of paint becoming more mainstream over the next decade or so. Final thoughts The Concept AMG GT XX is one of the more compelling Mercedes concepts to debut in the last few years. Not because of its horsepower figures or striking overall design, but because it seems to offer a genuine glimpse into the automaker's future. If it is, we expect some really good-looking cars to roll out of Affalterbach sooner rather than later. While some features, like the aero wheels, are bound to be reserved for high-dollar cars, there are somewhat more reasonable goals for things like luminescent paint and recycled flooring. We'll have to wait and see. About the Author Steven Paul View Profile
