Two arrested in Oman on drug-related charges
ROP said: 'In a coordinated effort to combat drug trafficking, the Anti-Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Department, led by the South Al Batinah Police Command, has successfully arrested a Pakistani national in the Wilayat of Barka.'
'The suspect was apprehended following a meticulous tracking operation and was found in possession of a quantity of marijuana intended for sale and personal use,' ROP added.
Meanwhile, the Anti-Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Department, under the Dhofar Police Command, arrested an Omani citizen for drug possession. Authorities are continuing legal actions in response to the case.
These operations reaffirm Oman's commitment to cracking down on illegal drug activities and ensuring public safety through rigorous enforcement measures.

Grounds for deportation: Understanding Oman's foreigners residency law
The deportation of foreigners from Oman is a formal administrative or judicial process governed by The Foreigners Residency Law. Legally distinct from expulsion which applies to illegal entrants. Deportation involves the forced removal of a foreigner residing legally in Oman when specific, serious grounds outlined in the law are met. Grounds for deportation are extensive and primarily concern threats to the state or public order. Speaking exclusively to the Times of Oman, a representative of Mohammed Ibrahim Law Firm, a leading law office in Oman, explained that under Article 31 of Royal Decree 60/2021, the Inspector General of Police and Customs holds the authority to revoke residency and order deportation for reasons including activities harming national security, safety, political/economic/financial integrity, or public order/morals; actions damaging Oman's international interests; membership in undesirable parties; involvement in armed action against Omani forces; or lacking a clear, legitimate means of subsistence. Critically, Article 30 mandates deportation as a consequence of a final court judgment for a felony or for a misdemeanor if the judgment specifically orders deportation, implemented only after serving any prison sentence. The deportation process begins with formally notifying the foreigner, requiring them to leave the Sultanate voluntarily within a specified time frame at their own expense. Failure to comply within this period results in forced deportation. To facilitate this, authorities are permitted to detain the individual for up to two weeks if necessary. The repercussions of deportation are severe and long-lasting, said Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim Al Zadjali, Founding Partner of Mohammed Ibrahim Law Firm. He further added that a new entry visa may not be granted to a foreigner who has been deported, except after the lapse of two years from the date of deportation and only with special permission from the Inspector General of Police and Customs. Furthermore, the deportation decision carries significant familial consequences; It automatically extends to the foreigner's spouse and any dependent children under their maintenance responsibility, leading to the termination of their residency rights as well. This comprehensive legal framework underscores Oman's stringent approach to maintaining sovereignty and public order, granting broad discretionary powers to the Inspector General while imposing significant restrictions and consequences, including family separation and long-term entry bans, on those subject to deportation orders, the expert said. Students told about historical importance of palm trees
Ibra: A student community initiative titled 'The Palm Tree: A Heritage Throughout History' was organised on Saturday in the Wilayat of Al Mudhaibi, North Al Sharqiyah Governorate. The initiative was implemented by the Citizenship Department of the Ministry of Education, with the participation of more than 50 male and female students from the summer programme in Al Suwairij village in Samad Ash-Shan. Subha bint Sulaiman Al Hemaili, Senior Educational Researcher at the Citizenship Department of the Ministry of Education, explained that the initiative stems from the importance of the palm trees in Omani society and aims to preserve its history. It aims to educate students about its significance, components, and the source of livelihood it has been for Omanis throughout the ages. She noted that the initiative promotes the values of citizenship and preserves the authentic Omani tradition in dealing with the palm tree and its exploitation in all its stages. She stressed that the initiative highlights the components of the palm tree and the importance of each one, introduces the historical heritage of the palm tree throughout history, and introduces participants to its types and varieties, the most prominent industries emerging from it, and its economic importance. It also highlights the initiative's role in promoting the need to preserve the palm tree and pursue professions associated with it, considering it an integral part of the national identity and culture of Omani society. Citizens arrested for kidnapping and extorting money
Muscat: Five citizens were arrested for defrauding and extorting a citizen by the South Al Batinah Governorate Royal Oman Police Command said on Friday. The Royal Oman Police further said that the suspects contacted the victim posing as a woman through social media platforms. They then persuaded the victim to travel to Barka and kidnapping and detaining him in a deserted house and extorting money from him. Legal procedures are currently underway to prosecute the suspects, the ROP further said.
