'Gavin Newsom desperately wants to be President of the United States, everyone knows this,' Mr Mulvaney told Sky News host James Morrow.
'I think he is making a mistake when it comes to actually gaining the White House, but he's not making a mistake when it comes to being the Democrat nominee for President.'
Mr Mulvaney claims Governor Newsom is attempting to 'be the face' of the Democratic Party by 'beating up' on US President Donald Trump.
