Five hospitalized after suspected drug incident at Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall
Five people were hospitalized Wednesday morning due to possible drug exposure inside Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall in Downey, officials said. Vicky Waters, the communications director for the L.A. County Probation Department, which oversees the juvenile halls, said the hospitalizations were due to 'a suspected overdose and possible exposure to an unidentified substance.' Youths being held at the hall and probation staff members were among those taken to the hospital on Wednesday morning, Waters said. She did not know what the substance was, where it was found or approximately what time the incident occurred. Downey police and fire officials were responding to the hall, as well as hazardous materials crews, according to Waters. The latest incident comes amid ongoing issues with drugs in the county's juvenile halls. On Monday, an employee for a non-profit tutoring company was arrested at Los Padrinos and allegedly found in possession of 170 pills believed to be Xanax. Last month, L.A. prosecutors charged a probation officer with smuggling Xanax into the Secure Youth Treatment Facility at Barry J. Nidorf Juvenile Hall in Sylmar. Several youths also suffered drug overdoses at Los Padrinos in April, not long after probation officials found a large quantity of Xanax inside the facility. Los Padrinos remains the subject of major scrutiny by state and county officials. In May, a judge ordered more than 100 youths to be moved out of the Downey hall after the facility repeatedly failed investigations carried out by a state oversight body. California Atty. Gen Rob Bonta also said earlier this year he was mulling a state takeover of L.A. County's juvenile justice system after years of scandals, riots, drug overdoses and allegations of officers abusing youths.

Atlanta Rapper Ca$h Out Accused Of Witness Intimidation In RICO Trial
Ca$h Out, a rapper who found fame in 2011 with his hit single 'Cashin' Out,' is currently on trial in Atlanta as the state of Georgia brought racketeering charges against him. In a new report, Ca$h Out and his mother, known as 'Mama Ca$h,' are being accused of intimidating and attempting to silence a woman who is a witness in the matter. Local outlet WSB-TV shared in a report that Ca$h Out, 34, faced new accusations from the prosecution alleging that the former Epic Records signee employed his mother, real name Linda Smith, to intimidate the aforementioned witness. Smit is a co-defendant in the RICO case, as is the cooperating witness whom the pair tried to silence. The witness, whose identity is being kept hidden, was allegedly cornered by Smith and told not to cooperate with the investigation against her son. The woman was arrested with Ca$h Out in 2021 during a prostitution sting. From what the report states, Smith was arrested in Buckhead at a physical therapy clinic, which apparently is connected to the witness. Smith, in a 2021 interrogation video, claimed she was at the clinic looking for a friend who missed a probation appointment. 'I mean, y'all acting like I done kidnapped her,' Smith reportedly said during the interrogation session. She was asked why she attempted to reach the witness and answered, 'I said why would she miss her probation, she knows how important that is.' Prosecutors presented audio recordings of Gibson giving his mother instructions to contact the unnamed witness by phone. The prosecution then played a clip of Smith rebuffing her son's request. 'I already told you I'm going to the doctor, I already called the number, I'm doing everything you asked me to do. Stop pissing me off,' Smith was reportedly heard saying in the call. Ca$h Out is facing 41 counts of rape, sex trafficking and luring women into prostitution. — Photo: Instagram/@1CashOut SEE ALSO Atlanta Rapper Ca$h Out Accused Of Witness Intimidation In RICO Trial was originally published on

Nonprofit employee suspected of smuggling drugs into L.A. juvenile hall
An employee working for a nonprofit organization was arrested with dozens of pills in his possession at a Downey juvenile hall on Monday, months after several youths overdosed at the facility. Alejandro Lopez was arrested on suspicion of child endangerment and drug possession after he was found holding roughly 170 'white pills' inside Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall around 11:30 a.m., according to a news release from the L.A. County Probation Department, which oversees the halls. The department said officers noticed Lopez was 'engaged in some suspicious activity' and approached him shortly before finding the pills. They are believed to be Xanax, but lab tests must be conducted to confirm that, according to Vicky Waters, a Probation Department spokeswoman. 'This type of behavior is unacceptable and represents a clear threat to the safety and well-being of the youth and staff in our institutions,' county Chief Probation Officer Guillermo Viera Rosa said in a statement. 'We are grateful for the swift action of our investigative team and our law enforcement partners. We remain committed to ensuring a secure environment for youth, staff, and our community partners.' Probation officials said Lopez works for Student Nest, which, according to its website, is a Fresno-based tutoring service that provides programs focused on math, science, English and robotics. Attempts to contact the company were not immediately successful Monday night. It was not immediately clear whether Lopez had legal representation. Drugs in the county's juvenile halls have been a major concern since the May 2023 overdose death of 18-year-old Bryan Diaz at the Secure Youth Treatment Facility in Sylmar. This year, three youths were hospitalized after suffering drug overdoses in Los Padrinos, just days after probation officials found a large quantity of Xanax inside the hall. A probation officer was charged with helping smuggle Xanax into Barry J. Nidorf Juvenile Hall in Sylmar in June.
