8 booked for anomalies in recruitment of 2 asst teachers, clerk at Sultanpur school
It was alleged that the two assistant teachers, Ranjana Singh and Veer Vikram Singh, and clerk Vijay Vikram Singh, were family members and relatives of the then members of the school management committee, who died or quit the committee before and after the appointments were done. Moreover, around ₹28 lakh bribe was paid to different people involved in the process of recruitment, the FIR stated.
The investigation was ordered by the government about four years ago, following complaints of irregularities in the recruitment process. The vigilance's investigation found that the school management committee had manipulated the recruitment process to favour unqualified candidates.
The FIR was lodged by vigilance inspector Dhruv Chand Maurya at Ayodhya sector police station of vigilance on July 1 (Tuesday). He conducted an open inquiry into the alleged irregularities in the recruitment of two assistant teachers and a clerk as per the government order issued in the matter in 2022.
The complainant alleged the involvement of Ramesh Kumar Yadav (former BSA), Omkar Singh (former BEO) Rajendra Kumar Saroj (former principal), Veer Vikram Singh and Ranjana Singh (assistant teachers), Vijay Vikram Singh (clerk) and Achhelal Singh (member of the management committee) in the irregularities. They were booked under sections 7 and 8 of Prevention of Corruption Act and Section 120-B of the IPC for criminal conspiracy.
The complainant mentioned in the FIR that the alleged irregularities were conducted at Maharana Pratap School of Katsaari village in Sultanpur's Kadipur. The investigation found that some members of the school management committee manipulated the recruitment process to favour unqualified candidates. He said the school recruited teachers for arts subjects despite having a vacancy for a science teacher.
The degrees and other documents of eligible candidates were tampered with and three eligible candidates' BSc degrees were altered to BA degrees, and they were not even called for an interview, it was alleged. Approximately ₹28 lakh was allegedly taken as bribe for giving jobs to relatives, he added.

High court reserves order on Kangana Ranaut's tweet drama
Bathinda: After almost three years of legal back-and-forth, the Punjab and Haryana high court has reserved its verdict on a petition filed by Hindi cinema actor-turned-MP Kangana Ranaut, who is challenging a defamation case stemming from her controversial tweet during the year 2020-21 farmer protests. A high court bench reserved the order on July 3 after concluding arguments in the matter. Ranaut, now an MP from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh, had filed the petition to quash summons issued by a Bathinda court in 2022 under sections 499 and 500 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The defamation complaint was filed by Mahinder Kau (73) r of Bahadurgarh Jandian village in Bathinda district, alleging that Ranaut had defamed her in a tweet by identifying her wrongly as Bilkis Bano of Shaheen Bagh fame and implying that such women could be hired to protest for Rs 100. The tweet, which was later deleted, targeted Mahinder Kaur during her participation in the farmers' agitation at Delhi's borders. On Feb 22, 2022, Bathinda judicial magistrate Tanvi Gupta issued initial summons for Ranaut to appear on April 19, 2022. When she did not respond, fresh summons were issued for July 14, 2022, to be delivered via Bathinda SSP. Before the hearing, Ranaut moved the high court, arguing that the trial court had misapplied Section 202 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. Her legal team also claimed she had merely retweeted content posted originally by one "Adhivakta Gautam Yadav", who was not named as an accused in the complaint — raising questions about the complainant's intent. Mahinder Kaur's counsel, Raghbir Singh Behniwal, said the trial court had set July 11 as the next hearing date pending the high court's ruling.

Key accused in scholarship scam held
Lucknow: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Uttar Pradesh has arrested a key accused in the Rs 24 crore pre-matric minority scholarship scam in Hathras. Between 2011 and 2013, a scam allegedly took place in Hathras involving 62 private school managers, the then District Minority Welfare Officer, and bank officials. They purportedly colluded to embezzle scholarship funds meant for minority students, which were released by the Govt of India. An FIR was registered at Mursan police station under IPC sections 409, 419, 420, 467, 468, and 471. In 2016, the investigation was transferred to EOW by the UP govt. 81 individuals were found guilty during the investigation, and charge sheets against 31 accused have already been submitted in court.

Month After Confessing To 1986 Murder, Kerala Man Claims To Have Killed Again
Kozhikode: Muhammadali who had last month confessed to killing someone in 1986, when he was a teenager, had committed another murder three years after that, police said on Saturday. A senior officer of Kozhikode police said that after the accused confessed to both murders in June, an FIR under section 302 IPC was registered right then in connection with the 1986 incident and he was remanded in judicial custody. "But his claims regarding the second alleged murder are yet to be verified," he said. The officer also said that according to the accused's brother, Muhammadali had undergone treatment for some mental illness. According to Muhammadali, when he was 14-years-old, he had killed a man in 1986 within the Thiruvambady police station limits in Kozhikode district. He had confessed to it at Vengara police station in Malappuram district last month as he could no longer bear to live with the secret. According to Kozhikode police, he had also confessed to committing a second murder in 1989 at Vellayil Beach which came under Nadakkavu police station here back then. An officer of Nadakkavu police station said that an unidentified body was found at Vellayil Beach in 1989, but the case registered in connection with it was later closed as "undetected". "The area now comes under the Vellayil police station. The documents connected with the 1989 case have to be found, which is not easy since the incident occurred around 36 years ago. After that we have to verify whether what the accused said is correct," the officer said. Regarding the 1986 incident, Muhammadali had said that when a man tried to harass him, he kicked the man in self-defence and that person fell into a nearby stream, police had said earlier. Panicked, he had fled the scene and two days later, he returned to find the man's lifeless body still in the water. Fearing the worst, he stayed silent, according to Muhammadali's account to the police. At the time, the police had treated the death as natural. Locals then had said the victim was known to have epilepsy, and no one came forward to identify the body. With no leads, the case was closed. In his confession, Muhammadali, now in his fifties, had told police that the burden of guilt became too heavy to carry especially after personal tragedies struck his own family. His elder son died, and his younger son was seriously injured in an accident and it was then that he realised he had to come clean. A police team from Thiruvambady station is combing through old files and newspaper reports in a bid to uncover the victim's identity. So far, the only surviving record is a short news report from December 5, 1986. It reads: "Koodaranji: Body of a young man found in a small stream behind Mission Hospital. Estimated age: 20", police had said.
