Ramayana first look: Starring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, the first look of the mythological film, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, will be presented to the world on Thursday. Also starring Yash as Ravan, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, Ravie Dubey as Laxman and Sai Pallavi as Sita, the film has been in the making for the last two years. So far, the makers have not released any footage from the film and the three-minute preview set to be released on July 3 will be the audience's introduction to the world of Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana.
Most of the cast members of the film have stayed quiet about their part in the film. However, Yash, who is also the producer of the film, previously spoke to The Hollywood Reporter India where he shared his interpretation of Ravan, and how he intends on playing the role of the antagonist of the epic. 'It's a very fascinating character. I wouldn't have done it for any other reason. In Ramayana, if you had asked me 'would you play any other character?' Probably not. For me, Ravan is the most exciting character to play as an actor so I really like the shades and the nuances of particular character. There's vast scope to present it in a very different way. As an actor, I am very excited. Hopefully, it's going to be a very unique approach to it,' he said.
In June, Sunny also spoke about playing Hanuman in the film. He shared with Zoom, 'Nervousness and fear are always there, but that's the beauty of it because you have to find within you how will you take up the challenge.' He added, 'Ramayana has been made so many times, and when this film comes on the screen and the way all the actors are involved in it, I'm sure they'll do justice to the epic, and people will be satisfied and they will enjoy the film.'
Arun Govil, who is best known for playing Lord Rama on the Doordarshan show Ramayan, will be playing the role of the Ram's father, Dashrath, in the film. It has been reported that Rakul Preet Singh will be seen as Surpanakha, and Vivek Oberoi will be seen playing Vidyutjihva, Surpanakha's husband. Actor Indira Krishnan will be seen playing Lord Ram's mother Kaushalya in the film. It has also been reported that Kajal Aggarwal will be seen as Mandodari, and Lara Dutta will play Kaikeyi in the film.

Sai Pallavi will be seen as Sita and Ravie Dubey will be playing the role of Lord Ram's brother Laxman in the film. At the recent wrap of the film's first part, Ranbir and Ravie were seen celebrating with each other.
An earlier report by Bollywood Hungama suggested that the film is being made on a budget of Rs 835 crore, making it the most expensive Indian film to date. Previously, another film based on the epic, Adipurush, was made on a budget of Rs 500 crore. The film failed at the box office and was severely criticised for its visual effects and dialogues, among other things. That film starred Prabhas, Kriti Sanon and Saif Ali Khan.
Ramayana will be a two-part film. The first part is scheduled to release on Diwali 2026 and the second part will release on Diwali 2027. The makers are yet to confirm the exact release dates, which will be revealed in the announcement video.

Metro In Dino box office collection day 1 early report: Sara Ali Khan, Aditya Roy Kapur film off to a weak start

Metro In Dino box office collection day 1 early report: Sara Ali Khan and Aditya Roy Kapur's Metro In Dino released on July 4 to mixed reviews. The romantic musical, directed by Anurag Basu, also features Fatima Sana Shaikh, Ali Fazal, Neena Gupta, Konkona Sen Sharma, Pankaj Tripathi, and Anupam Kher. Despite its ensemble cast, the film has received a lukewarm response at the box office. According to early estimates from industry tracker Sacnilk, it opened with Rs 2.63 crore nett in India on day one. On Friday, the film recorded an overall Hindi occupancy of 13.62% in theatres, with morning shows at 8.64%, afternoon shows at 14.24%, and evening shows at 17.99%, according to Sacnilk. Bengaluru reported the highest occupancy on day one, at 28.33%. Advance bookings for Metro In Dino brought in only Rs 50–60 lakh, a relatively low figure. Given the mixed response from both critics and audiences, it remains uncertain whether the film will gain momentum over its opening weekend. However, it's worth noting that the movie is already ahead of its predecessor, Life in a… Metro (2007), which earned Rs 87 lakh on its opening day and went on to collect Rs 24.31 crore worldwide over its lifetime. The latest installment of the Jurassic franchise, starring Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali and Jonathan Bailey, has already earned Rs 4.43 crore in India. An excerpt from SCREEN's review of Metro In Dino read, 'What I really enjoyed in the film were the nimble writerly leaps and the people speaking to each other as people do, in sentences which feel as if they are coming from the character's lives, rather than rehearsed dialogues on the page. Yes, there is the occasional floweriness, but that's just Basu leaning into his bent for amping up the mundane. As the architect of edifices full of messy emotions and registering graphs of hurt and happiness, Basu retains his old touch, and I found myself smiling in the dark, especially in the first half. Things do slacken post-interval; a couple of crucial situations repeat themselves, and the film strains to fill its nearly three hour length.'

Hrithik as Ram, Amitabh as Dashrath: Years before Ranbir Kapoor-Yash film, this mega Ramayana was planned, yet shelved

Before Om Raut's Adipurush or Nitesh Tiwari's upcoming Ramayana, there was an ambitious plan to bring the epic to life on the big screen. While Prabhas's portrayal of Lord Rama in Adipurush faced significant criticism and failed at the box office, fans have high expectations from Ranbir Kapoor and Yash's adaptation. However, not many know that even before these films, Ramayana was planned for the big screen with stars like Hrithik Roshan and Amitabh Bachchan. Before Nitesh Tiwari, another filmmaker wanted to make Ramayana with Hrithik Roshan and Amitabh Bachchan. Sanjay Khan wanted to make Ramayana Back in 2008, filmmaker and actor Sanjay Khan envisioned a modern adaptation of the Ramayana, with a reported budget of ₹50 crore. Known for directing successful mythological and historical TV series like Jai Hanuman, Jai Mahabharat, The Sword of Tipu Sultan, and The Great Maratha, Sanjay Khan was deeply passionate about bringing the epic to the silver screen. According to a 2008 report in Mumbai Mirror, the film was titled The Legend of Rama and was to be co-scripted by Sanjay Khan and UK-based author Farrukh Dhondy. The proposed cast included his then son-in-law Hrithik Roshan as Lord Rama, his son Zayed Khan as Lakshman, and Amitabh Bachchan as King Dashrath. Zayed Khan confirmed Sanjay Khan making Ramayana In an interview with Subhash K Jha for Mumbai Mirror in 2008, Zayed Khan confirmed the film, saying, 'Yes, my father is indeed making the Ramayan. It's called The Legend of Rama. He has been planning this film for the last three years and looking for a perfect actor to play Ram. And who but Hrithik could be the perfect choice for the role?' Co-writer Farrukh Dhondy added, 'It's Ramayan in modern format, and the script is ready. This means it will be the Ramayan in The Lord Of The Rings genre. The screenplay has the motion, motivation and movement of a Shakespearean play. When you do a Mahabharat, Ramayan or any other scripture, the danger is it just becomes—'the Gods did this, the Gods did that,' because the Gods can do anything they like. That's why you are taught in writing school never to include Gods in your creativity. I'm trying to rationalise the ways of the Gods. Hrithik is the perfect Ram, and Zayed the perfect Laxman.' Despite the vision and planning, the project was ultimately shelved and never went into production. Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana The makers recently unveiled a striking first glimpse of Ramayana, featuring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama and Yash as Ravana. What caught the audience's attention was not only the character designs but also the high-quality VFX and the powerful background score composed by AR Rahman and Hans Zimmer. The teaser has drawn comparisons to Adipurush, with many viewers calling it far superior. Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana also stars Sai Pallavi as Sita, Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman, and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman. The film is set to release in two parts—one during Diwali 2026 and the second during Diwali 2027.
