Palestinian President Lauds Saudi Role in France's Recognition of Statehood
On Thursday, France's President, Emmanuel Macron, announced that Paris would recognize an independent Palestinian State at the upcoming UN General Assembly in September, to be the first major Western power to take such a move.
'Consistent with its historic commitment to a just and lasting peace in the Middle East, I have decided that France will recognize the state of Palestine,' Macron posted on X.
In the light of this, Abbas expressed his appreciation to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and the Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Mohammed bin Salman, for leading Saudi Arabia's efforts and honorable positions in support of Palestine.
Furthermore, Abbas welcomed Macron's announcement as a bold step toward establishing peace through the two-state solution, in accordance with international legitimacy and international law.
Abbas said the French move represented a victory for the Palestinian cause and underscored France's commitment to supporting the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights to their homeland.
Moreover, he urged countries across the world to follow suit and recognize the State of Palestine based on the internationally-recognized two-state solution, in line with international resolutions.
Saudi Arabia and France will co-chair the International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution on July 28-29, 2025, at the UN headquarters in New York.
It is part of a broader push toward a two-state solution that involves recognizing a Palestinian State while guaranteeing Israel's security, in a bid to resolve the decades-old conflict.

Hamas Slams Israeli Aid as 'Deceptive Starvation Tactics'
Hamas on Sunday condemned Israel's humanitarian aid airdrops and limited corridor operations in Gaza, calling these efforts 'deceptive tactics' aimed at hiding Israel's deeper intentions to impose starvation and control the population. In a strong statement, Hamas accused Israel of using airdrops and so-called safe corridors as tools to manage famine, coercion, and civilian suffering, arguing that delivering food and medicine is a fundamental right, not a favor, and essential to end the ongoing catastrophe. Additionally, Hamas insists the only solution to the humanitarian crisis involves ending the violence, breaking the blockade, and reopening all border crossings. The group blamed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for orchestrating policies that have caused widespread civilian casualties and suffering. Furthermore, Hamas labeled the aid operations and starvation as 'war crimes,' urging the international community to increase diplomatic and grassroots pressure, demanding a full end to the siege and the preventable suffering of Palestinians. Continued Aid Efforts Amid Escalating Violence Despite Israel's aid airdrops and temporary ceasefires, violence persists as the Israeli forces have repeatedly opened fire on Palestinians near distribution centers, causing many casualties. Since October 7, 2023, Israel's military campaign has resulted in over 59,700 Palestinian deaths, according to local health authorities. The relentless attacks have devastated Gaza, leading to critical food shortages and widespread suffering. In November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, as both figures face charges related to war crimes and crimes against humanity. Meanwhile, Israel launched an alternative aid distribution through the U.S.-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, with critics arguing that this move bypasses international organizations and hampers coordinated relief efforts. As tensions continue, the international community debates Israel's tactics and the growing humanitarian crisis, with many call for urgent action to end the conflict and address the dire needs of Gaza's civilians. Russia Blames Kyiv, West for Blocking Peace Talks in Ukraine
Russia on Sunday insisted that Ukraine and its Western backers have flatly rejected every diplomatic overture to end the war, saying that Moscow consequently must keep fighting. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that Kyiv and Western capitals ignored Moscow's proposals for negotiations, though he offered no evidence, yet he repeated the claim on state television. 'Our preferred route is through political and diplomatic means,' Peskov told the TASS news agency. Moreover, Peskov further claimed that Moscow continues its military operations in Ukraine due to the lack of dialogue. He asserted, without providing evidence, that 'all proposals for dialogue were rejected, both by Ukraine and by Western countries,' highlighting Russia's frustration with the current diplomatic landscape. Peskov did not present documents or name specific rejected proposals during the brief interview. Nevertheless, his remarks set the tone for the coming week of diplomacy. Russian officials say they seek security guarantees and recognition of Crimea as Russian territory. They also demand that Ukraine pledge neutrality and reduce its armed forces. However, Western leaders counter that any talks must respect Ukraine's sovereignty and its right to choose alliances, making the two sides remain far apart. Kyiv's Position on Peace Talks Ukraine's government argues that negotiations cannot start while Russian troops occupy parts of its territory. Furthermore, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy insists any settlement must include full withdrawal and reparations. Western diplomats echo Kyiv's stance, saying talks without a cease-fire would reward aggression. Therefore, they continue to supply weapons instead of sitting down. Despite today's accusations, back-channel contacts continue through intermediaries in Turkey and the United Nations with observers hoping these quiet talks can reopen broader negotiations before winter. However, as tensions persist, the international community watches closely, with the ongoing conflict raising questions about the future of diplomatic efforts in the region.
