Health dept asks hosps to stock adequate quantity of medicines
According to the sources, the officials were asked to check the medicine stocks in all the primary health centres, urban primary health centres and Basti Dawakhanas in the state.
They were asked to give priority to stock life saving medicines and keep the emergency teams on alert to face any eventuality during the next few days. A senior official said that there were 638 Primary Health Centres, 248 Urban Primary Health Centres and 468 Basti Davakhanas in the State.
The staff including the DMHOs will be asked to regularly check the medicinal stock and approach the central medicine stores in their respective districts. If there is any shortage, the medicines will be supplied through vehicles provided to the CMS. In a high level meeting at the Integrated Command Control Center (ICCC), the CM directed the officials to have comprehensive security and emergency measures across Telangana.
Reviewing the readiness of blood banks, emergency medicines, hospital beds, and food stocks, the CM wanted the health officials to have coordination with the Red Cross.
The meetings came after India armed forces carried out attacks on the terrorist hideouts in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir and also in Pakistan. The official said that the government hospital superintendents and higher officials of the various wings should monitor the stocks. If there is a requirement for any medicine, this should be brought to the notice of the higher officials so that they can be supplied.

Rs 110-crore MGMGH speciality block in Tiruchy to be completed by November
TIRUCHY: Work on the Rs 110-crore speciality block being constructed inside the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (MGMGH) campus is expected to be completed by November. Chief Minister MK Stalin is likely to inaugurate the new facility in December. The project, launched in March 2024 , is coming up on a 2,600 square metres as a ground-plus-six-floor structure. The block will house 600 beds and bring together key departments such as general medicine, surgery, dermatology, and a centralised blood bank under one roof. "All structural work has been completed. Interior finishing, tiling, waterproofing, and electrical systems are now in progress," a senior PWD engineer who is supervising the work told TNIE, adding work is progressing as per schedule. A senior DMK functionary close to Minister KN Nehru said the project is being closely monitored to meet the deadline, he said, "This is a priority for us not just because of the elections, but because Tiruchy serves a large rural and urban population. The Chief Minister may inaugurate it in December." The government may project this a major health care upgrade ahead of 2026 Assembly elections, party sources said. Once operational, the block will decongest existing facilities. Health Department officials said the outpatient section will be relocated to the ground and first floors of the new building. "The integrated facility will improve inter-department coordination and reduce delays in diagnostics and referrals," a senior Health Department official said. Beyond clinical care, the hospital administration plans to level and create space around the new block to accommodate several hundreds of vehicles. At present, vehicles are parked haphazardly in the sprawling campus often resulting in chaos. Further, to manage the increase in patient footfalls, hospital authorities have sent a request to the government to appoint at least 100 additional staff nurses, supplementing the current strength of 212. "We are in need of more staffs. In proportionate with the beds we have sought staffs. Apart from us, Nurses association have also given representation," said Dean S Kumaravel. An additional Rs 24 crore has been sanctioned for procurement of equipment and surgical instruments for various departments, sources said.

PG quota may be reduced for govt doctors in Andhra Pradesh
VIJAYAWADA: The Health Department is likely to reduce the number of postgraduate (PG) medical seats reserved for government doctors in the 2025-26 academic year, based on a new assessment of specialist requirements in government hospitals by 2028-29. According to sources, only 103 specialists will be needed, down sharply from the 378 PG seats reserved for in-service government doctors in 2024-25. The latest assessment revealed that just 23 posts would be required in three clinical departments: radiology, emergency medicine, and paediatrics, while 80 posts were projected across six non-clinical departments. Accordingly, the in-service reservation for MBBS-qualified doctors working in primary health centres (PHCs) is expected to be revised in line with these projections. 'In-service reservations must reflect real manpower needs. With only 103 projected specialist posts, we cannot justify reserving hundreds of seats,' a senior Health Department official said. In 2024-25, 378 PG seats were allotted under in-service quota, 272 in clinical departments (20% of convener quota seats) and 105 in non-clinical (30%). However, only 312 seats were filled, indicating a lower uptake, 259 in clinical and 53 in non-clinical departments. The officials admitted that the government had yielded to pressure from PHC doctors in allotting excess seats. 'Despite high demand, 66 seats remained vacant,' another official said.

Pregnant woman, unborn child die waiting for doc at Pilibhit hosp
Pilibhit: A 26-year-old pregnant woman and her unborn child died allegedly due to a delay in C-section surgery and medical negligence at district women's hospital in Pilibhit. The woman, Laxmi Devi, a resident of Maidna village under Neuria police station limits, was referred to the district hospital by Dr Sahis Pal, medical officer in charge at Neuria community health centre, after she experienced labour pain but showed no cervical dilation — a condition requiring immediate cesarean delivery. Her husband, Naresh Pal, and brother Ajay Pal said Laxmi was brought to the hospital around 5.30pm on Tuesday. However, the attending gynaecologists refused to examine her until her diagnostic test reports were submitted. "She was in intense pain. My sister kept begging the doctors to check her, but no one came," said Ajay. "She vomited around 7.45pm and collapsed soon after." Chief medical officer (CMO) Dr Alok Kumar said the test results, which should have taken 30 minutes, were delayed by over three hours. "The hospital has multiple testing facilities — its own pathology lab, an integrated NHM-funded lab and a health ATM that conducts 35–40 diagnostic tests through an automated system," he said. "We received the reports at 7.45pm, prompting the gynaecologists to attend to her. But by that time, she had already collapsed," said Dr Rajesh Kumar, chief medical superintendent (CMS).
