During a four-hour closed-door meeting in Brussels on July 2–3, 2025, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi told EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas that Beijing 'cannot afford' to see Russia lose in Ukraine, citing concern that the United States would otherwise redirect its focus away from Europe and toward China. The remarks, not included in official communiqués, were described by EU officials as a moment of rare frankness that startled Brussels. Also read: Donald Trump drops bombshell: US is hacking China just like they are hacking us Kallas pressed China to cease material support to Russia, warning that Chinese firms supplying dual-use components to Moscow pose a 'serious threat' to European security.China maintains publicly that it is 'not a party' to the war and denies military or financial assistance. Govt doesn't take stand on matters of faith, says MEA on Dalai succession issue

NEW DELHI: Following remarks by Union minister Kiren Rijiju backing the Dalai Lama's announcement about his succession, including the statement that China will have no role in it, India on Friday said it had taken no position on what was an issue concerning faith and religion. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Interestingly, the Chinese foreign ministry, after cautioning India at a media briefing, according to agency reports from Beijing, against interfering in Tibetan affairs at the expense of Sino-India ties, omitted its comments objecting to Rijiju's remarks from the official transcript of the briefing. "Govt of India does not take any position or speak on matters concerning beliefs and practices of faith and religion," foreign ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, responding to media queries. Govt committed to protecting freedom of religion for everyone in India, says MEA The MEA spokesperson added that Indian govt has always upheld freedom of religion for all in India and would continue to do so. India's ties with China have shown signs of improvement in the past nine months, since they resolved the almost-five-year-long border stand-off in eastern Ladakh, leading to resumption of high-level bilateral visits. Amid global uncertainties, both sides seem keen to maintain a steady working relationship. Defence minister Rajnath Singh visited China last month for a meeting of the SCO defence ministers. NSA Ajit Doval has twice visited China since PM Modi's meeting with President Xi Jinping in Oct last year on the margins of the Brics summit in Russia. As special representative for boundary talks, Wang himself is likely to visit India this month for talks with Doval. India, however, is yet to confirm Modi's participation in the SCO summit in China in Sept. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Unlike the US, which officially maintains that China has no role to play in the Dalai Lama's succession, India has never taken any position on the issue. China maintains that the successor to the 14th Dalai Lama can only be appointed through the "traditional" process that includes approval by the central govt. In rare remarks by an Indian minister, Rijiju had backed the spiritual leader's assertion that no one else other than his trust would help choose his successor. The minister clarified on Friday that he wasn't speaking on behalf of the Indian govt but as a devotee himself, expressing the perspective of the Dalai Lama's followers. "All over the world, the people who follow Buddhism and who believe in the sacred, supreme Dalai Lama-ji... it is everyone's wish that the Dalai Lama-ji himself will decide. There is no need for govt of India or for me to say anything. I am speaking as a follower. I am not saying anything on... the Chinese govt's statement," the minister said.

‘China Will Go All-Out If Russia...': Xi's Aide Unleashes Fire, ‘SHAMES' Trump In Europe

China has issued a chilling warning to the U.S. and Europe over the Russia-Ukraine war, with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi reportedly conveying Beijing's intentions during a closed-door meeting with EU officials in Brussels on July 2-3. EU foreign policy chief was said to be present at the talks. According to reports, Wang Yi declared China 'cannot afford' to see Russia lose in Ukraine, citing fears that if Russia is defeated, the U.S. would redirect its focus from Europe towards China. Jaishankar set to visit China for SCO meet; possible visit by Wang to India later this month

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi may also visit India this month to hold a fresh round of talks with NSA Ajit Doval under the framework of Special Representatives (SR) dialogue on the boundary dispute, it is learnt. It would be Jaishankar's first visit to China after the ties between the two countries came under severe strain following the 2020 military standoff along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh. New Delhi, Jul 4 (PTI) External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is set to visit China around July 13 to attend a conclave of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), people familiar with the matter said on Friday. In December, NSA Doval visited Beijing and held the SR talks with Wang. Doval visited China last month as well for a meeting of top security officials of the SCO member nations. The people cited above said the external affairs minister is likely to travel to Beijing for talks with Wang before going to Tianjin for the conclave of the SCO foreign ministers that will be held on July 14 and 15. Jaishankar's visit is taking place less than three weeks after Defence Minister Rajnath Singh travelled to the Chinese port city of Qingdao to participate in the SCO defence ministers' conference. China is the current chair of the SCO, and it is hosting the meetings of the grouping in that capacity. The military standoff in eastern Ladakh began in May 2020, and a deadly clash at the Galwan Valley in June that year resulted in a severe strain in ties between the two neighbours. The face-off effectively ended following completion of the disengagement process from the last two friction points of Demchok and Depsang under an agreement finalised on October 21. The decision to revive the SR mechanism and other such dialogue formats was taken at a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Kazan on October 23. The Modi-Xi meeting came two days after India and China firmed up a disengagement pact for Depsang and Demchok. In the last few months, India and China have initiated a number of measures to repair the bilateral ties. Last month, the two sides resumed the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra after a gap of nearly five years. PTI MPB NSD NSD This report is auto-generated from PTI news service.
