Fuel prices in the country were liberalised in 2015, with local rates being aligned with global oil prices.
For the past 10 years, the fuel price committee has met on a monthly basis to announce revised rates.
The government hopes the measure will encourage more residents to use public transport while also incentivising the use of alternative fuels.

Suntech Group honoured as UAE's emerging invoicing innovator
In a landmark moment at UAE TaxTech 2025, Suntech Group was awarded the prestigious title of Emerging Invoicing Innovator, sharing the spotlight with the region's most transformative tax leaders, regulators, and technology pioneers. The event, held under the patronage of key government bodies, celebrated breakthrough achievements in e-invoicing, automation, and compliance intelligence — and Suntech stood tall among innovators for its bold strides in digitising high-value, high-complexity industries. As the UAE accelerates its transition to a fully digital tax regime, e-invoicing is no longer just a compliance mandate — it's a critical enabler of efficiency, transparency, and trust. The Federal Tax Authority's e-invoicing framework, based on global PEPPOL standards, is set to reshape how businesses issue, track, and report transactions. "We're honoured to receive this recognition. E-invoicing is not just a tech upgrade — it's a paradigm shift in how businesses govern, report, and grow," said Pawan Kumar, managing director at Suntech Group. "We're proud to be at the forefront of this change, bringing global-grade infrastructure and local insight to the businesses that need it most." "We see e-invoicing evolving into an intelligent layer — not just transmitting data, but validating, reconciling, and predicting,' added Tushar Gupta, executive director at Suntech Group. "The invoice of tomorrow is a business asset, not a paper trail."

UAE petrol prices in July: will petrol prices go up or down?
Fuel prices have held steady for three months – but will that change soon? Petrol heads and commuters, take note – UAE petrol prices for July 2025 will be announced any day now and the big question on everyone's mind is: are we about to see a hike at the pump? So far, it's been a relatively smooth ride. Petrol prices have remained virtually unchanged for the past three months, giving drivers a welcome breather after the fuel rollercoaster of 2024. For example, since June 1, prices at the pump have been: E-Plus 91: Dhs2.39 Special 95: Dhs2.47 Super 98: Dhs2.58 Diesel: Dhs2.45 That's the same price tag we saw in May and not much different from April. In fact, petrol is now considerably cheaper than this time last year – Special 95 was Dhs2.88 per litre in July 2024, compared to Dhs2.47 now. What's behind the fuel freeze? After wild swings in global oil prices throughout 2022 and 2023, things have cooled off. The UAE's Fuel Price Committee – which lifted the pandemic-era price freeze in 2021 – has let market forces dictate fuel rates ever since, meaning we get monthly price shifts based on international trends. But with global crude oil prices showing moderate stability lately, the UAE's petrol prices have followed suit. Diesel prices have seen the biggest shift recently, dipping from Dhs2.52 in May to Dhs2.45 in June. Here's a quick flashback to fuel prices over the past few months: Prices in Dhs per litre E-Plus 91 Special 95 Super 98 Diesel June 2025 2.39 2.47 2.58 2.45 May 2025 2.39 2.47 2.58 2.52 April 2025 2.38 2.46 2.57 2.63 March 2025 2.54 2.61 2.73 2.77 February 2025 2.55 2.63 2.74 2.82 January 2025 2.43 2.50 2.61 2.68 So, what can we expect in July? The new rates are expected to be announced in the final days of June, so all eyes are on the Fuel Price Committee. While current indicators suggest prices could stay stable for a fourth month, any fluctuations in global oil markets could push prices up or down. Until then, keep those tanks topped up – and watch this space. We'll update you the moment July's prices change. In the meantime, if you're looking to save at the pump, consider filling up just before the end of the month – just in case. Qatari-Russian cooperation to promote digitalization, e-invoicing in tax systems
Doha, Qatar: As part of efforts to enhance international cooperation and exchange expertise in tax practices, the General Tax Authority (GTA) organized a joint workshop with the Federal Tax Service of Russia at the GTA headquarters in Doha. A statement by GTA on Wednesday indicated that the workshop focused on enhancing collaboration in key areas such as digitalization, the e-invoicing project, and improving the overall efficiency of tax performance. Senior officials and technical experts from both sides participated in the event. During the main discussion session, both parties explored areas of cooperation, including the scope and outcomes of an ongoing technical assistance project. This initiative supports the GTA's digital transformation strategy and aims to develop its systems into an integrated hub for financial and tax information. The joint workshop provided a platform to exchange best practices in the digitalization of tax systems, aligning with broader efforts to build a modern, technology-driven tax administration. The agenda featured a series of technical presentations and expert-led discussions, with a particular focus on Russia's experience in value-added tax reform and digital innovation. The workshop also included presentations covering strategies for expanding the use of electronic documentation, addressing associated technical and regulatory challenges, and assessing the potential impact of future tax policies on innovation and economic growth. Participants emphasized at the conclusion of the workshop the importance of continued technical cooperation and knowledge exchange to strengthen the resilience of tax systems in both countries and better equip them to respond to future challenges, ultimately contributing to the broader goals of sustainable development. © Dar Al Sharq Press, Printing and Distribution.
